'Sex and the City 2' Goes to Abu Dhabi? Actually, It's Morocco

We're a little more than a month away from the return of Manolos and cosmos as Sex and the City 2 releases into theater in late May. And just like in the first movie, the girls—Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte—must get up and out of New York City for a little bikini and fruity cocktail time in someplace exotic.

In Sex and the City 1, they went south of the border to Mexico, but this year they're gone far more afield...to Abu Dhabi. Or that's what they'd have you believe. The film has the girls going on some all-expenses-paid junket to the Emirate for camel trekking, bazaar buying and even a run-in with old flames, but all of this isn't actually in Abu Dhabi. We spotted the crew filming the Abu Dhabi scenes last November in the medina of Marrakech, Morocco.

'Sex' And The Moroccan City

The title "Sex and the City" may become too limiting for the world's most fashionable set-jetting foursome. It seems "Sex and the City 2" has our favorite New Yorkers treading some very unfamiliar territory this week as Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon began shooting in Morocco. The women were spotted filming in the famous marketplaces of Marrakech, looking even more fabulous than the last time we saw them in New York City. Carrie was wearing a "J'Adore Dior" Tee and full lavender skirt while Miranda had on a flowy white dress with matching jacket.

Though Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall haven't been spotted in Africa yet, rumor has it they will be joining SJP and Cynthia Nixon on the Moroccan set soon. All four ladies are also scheduled to film scenes in London before filming wraps next month.

SJP Filming in NYC But No 'Sex' Here

"Did You Hear About The Morgans?", starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant, is filming in the Southpoint Park on Roosevelt Island today. The romantic comedy, about an estranged couple in New York City who witness a murder and are relocated to rural Wyoming as part of the witness-protection program, has been filming in NYC for about two weeks.

This won’t be the first time SJP has been to Roosevelt Island, a narrow strip of land between Manhattan in Queens. Parker actually lived there for a time as a kid. She told The Independent that her large family (she is one of eight children) arrived in New York from Cincinnati in an overcrowded red VW van, hovering on the border between theater gypsies and welfare cases. Her family camped out on Roosevelt Island for a time when they first arrived to the Big Apple. "It was meant to be a Utopia," she says.

"DYHATM" will move to New Mexico in early May where Roy, Pecos, Santa Fe, Galisteo and Los Alamo will fill in for small town Wyoming.

Vacation Travel: Sarah Jessica Parker Leaves New York

The never-ending search for labels and love can get tiring. Sarah Jessica Parker and son James decompressed in a field in Ireland, far from the Manolo boutiques and hundreds of Starbucks in of New York City.

We have to say, though, it seems like an odd place to vacation given husband Matthew Broderick's traumatic history with the place. Back in the '80s, he and then-girlfriend Jennifer "Baby" Grey were in a head-on collision on a county road outside Enniskillen, just two weeks before "Dirty Dancing" opened. Broderick spent weeks in the hospital but both women in the other car were killed instantly. Maybe he's come back to make amends?

Movie Set Travel: Sex and the City

Gather your gals (and Anthony Marentino-types!) and get fabulous because the big day is finally here. Sex and the City opens today and we can hardly wait to run to the theater in our Manolos and outrageously patterned prints! All of the ladies--Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha--make it back to the big screen.

The movie picks up about three years after the series ended, with Carrie as Big's fiancee, Miranda as a Brooklyn mom and Charlotte as a happy adoptive parent. Samantha meanwhile has decamped to Malibu with the ever-stunning Smith. Of course there are cosmo-laden reunions, a big wedding day to plan, fights, changes and all the inner dialogue a gal could ask for.

In the spirit of the sexiest city of all, we offer you some spots to check out in The Big Apple, where the film was mostly shot. Don't forget your tutu!

Where to Host a Smashing Party: New York Public Library, 5th Avenue The main branch of the NYPL has it all: old school glamour, stunning architecture and plenty of marble steps to ascend. You can rent it out for private parties (event planners are required) or just visit any day of the week from 11 am-6 pm. This is where the big event in the film takes place...

Where to Check in: Hotel Giraffe This hotel may look unassuming, but the building's Piano Suite area was actually transformed into Big's apartment for sections of the movie. With interiors inspired by the 1920s and 30s, rooms feature 10-foot ceilings, original photographs and Egyptian cotton sheets and towels. Book their "Diva's Only" weekend package (at $445 per person) and get all kinds of groups treats like prosecco, a pole dancing class and manicures.

Movie Set Travel: Smart People

If you were a "Juno" fan, you'll enjoy this week's pick. "Smart People" brings Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Page, Dennis Quaid and Thomas Hayden Church to the screen as a dysfunctional family that gets a new lease on life.

Dennis Quaid is a widowed professor whose adopted brother Chuck (Church) returns to his life around the same time he meets SJP, a doctor. We hear there's all sorts of wry humor and Ellen Page plays a bit of her Juno role again--but we're OK with that.

The film was shot entirely in Pittsburgh. In that vein we invite you to check out some cool things in the Smoky City:

Fictional Travel: Don't Go Anywhere With Carrie Bradshaw

Love ain't so grand after all for Carrie and Big... errr, Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth in these promo shots for the upcoming "Sex and the City" movie. What, Bradshaw couldn't get hold of the "Darjeeling Limited" suitcases?

The film's trailer and spoilers posted on the Internet suggest that Carrie and Big--uh, big spoiler alert!--get married, or close to the altar at least.

Also, Carrie takes a tropical trip with Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. No wonder she needs so much luggage! Good thing she has Big around to haul it all--keeps her looking way more classy than notorious over-packer Paris Hilton.

Airport Photo Shoots: Once Bitten, Twice Shy at JFK

We can't quite believe we're uttering these words, but poor Sarah Jessica Parker. The woman has become so inextricably linked with high fashion that she can't slum it through an airport without catching heat for failing to dress herself in the envelope-pushing style to which SATC fans have become accustomed. The same goes for her pint-sized accessory (that's son James, not Matthew).

In various legs of transit on their winter holiday to Hawaii, Mr. and Ms. Carrie Bradshaw were snapped lugging their androgynous offspring through LAX and JFK, and, embarrassingly, it appeared as if little James Wilkie had picked out his own too-short, too-blue duds in the 75 percent off bin at the Salvation Army.

Of course, that's not really fair--most families don't emerge from 14-hour transoceanic flights looking as if they just stepped out of Vogue. But we'd think someone with her own clothing line and international fashion following could try just a teensy bit harder to look chic.

Or at the very least, she could get the kid his own stylist.
