The Perfect Sandcastle Formula
After we wrote about the U.S. Sandcastle Competition, we started to think...how does the perfect sandcastle get built? We know, we know...summer's over, yet we still wonder.
The answer's here. A study released by scientists to be published in the journal Nature Physics has cracked the formula. Always use eight parts sand to one part water--that way it stays dense enough and you can pack the sand to make the perfect sculpture.
This study did have some useful effects (shocker). Apparently, the formula can be replicated to build up natural retaining walls and prevent erosion.
Now we can sleep at night.

Like Sands Through the Hourglass...
Yes, it's fun to build sand castles at the beach...with your toes...while you lean back with a cold beer. Amateur.
Head to Revere Beach in MA (America's first public beach, btw) from July 14-17th and check out the masters at work at the annual Revere Beach Sand Sculpting Event.
Professional sculpters from Texas to Florida will be there building for three straight days in hopes of taking top prize. They also have a family and amateur competition too, lucky for you...
