The Latest on the Alec Baldwin, Words With Friends, American Airlines Insanity

December 12, 2011 at 8:25 AM | by | Comments (0)

Stop us if you've already seen this, but Alec Baldwin took his Words With Friends cause to SNL's Weekend Update on Saturday night to, well...apologize to himself.

In case you've been living in a cave the last several days, the story goes a little something like this: Baldwin was sitting on an American Airlines plane at LAX, playing the mobile app word game "Words With Friends." The plane door had already been closed (the cue to turn off electronic devices), and Alec refused flight attendant demands to turn off his device. He continued playing the Scrabble-like game, even retreating to the airplane bathroom in anger. So the plane kicked him off.

Alec tweeted his frustrations before being placed on a later flight, vowing never to fly American Airlines again. This was followed by a media flurry over the whole juicy ordeal, Alec mysteriously closing his Twitter account, and an offer from Greyhound to come play Words With Friends with their CEO on their buses.

So, back to the SNL video....

Tweet of the Week: New York's Hottest Club Is...

March 8, 2011 at 6:23 PM | by | Comments (0)

Note: Read in reverse order for the proper flow

We love Tuesdays. Why, you ask? Because the day brings many travel tips and quips as "Travel Tuesday" on Twitter, and we're going to share our favorite with you. Got an avid travel twitterer we should follow? Let us know.

Okay so maybe you haven't seen SNL lately, but there is an awesome new character with whom we're completely in love. He doesn't talk about airplanes or travel so much, but he does give us the lo-down on New York's hottest new clubs! You know, just in case we want to par-tay with @yay_Stefon.

Every so often since he's begun tweeting (and there are other Stefon Twitter accounts; we just like this one best), Stefon has been cluing in his followers to clubs, just like he did today...which you can see above. Note it down and follow him, so that next time someone asks you where they should go for a fun time in the Big Apple, you can immediately fire back with a proper Stefon-ism.

The TSA Gets a Sexy Sketch on 'Saturday Night Live'

November 22, 2010 at 9:10 AM | by | Comments (0)

Did you happen to catch Saturday Night Live on Saturday night (of course)? Yea, we didn't either, but that's what Hulu is for. And this last episode is especially worth digging up online because it featured some pretty spot-on sketches, including a very sexy "commercial" for the the TSA's new enhanced airport security pat-downs.

In the short segment, which you can view above, the girls of SNL begin as if it's an ad for a phone sex line, but then Bill Hader, Keenan Thompson and Bobby Moynihan show up in airport security uniforms, and demonstrate that they're more than ready with their blue gloves and big wands to make you feel "a personal touch" next time you head through airport security. Here's our favorite lines:

How To Get Tickets To SNL's New Season

September 28, 2010 at 4:04 PM | by | Comments (0)

After last week's Saturday Night Live season premiere, which included a stolen sketch, Katy Perry poking fun at her banned Sesame Street appearance, and a cameo by Justin Timberlake, who wouldn't want to be a part of the show's live audience this season?

Think Its Impossible to Get SNL Tickets? Think Again

September 2, 2009 at 1:29 PM | by | Comments (5)

Getting tickets to Saturday Night Live has notoriously been thought to be like getting into Mob; you can't get in without connections and a willingness to do whatever it takes. But that isn't necessarily the case.

Saturday Night Live gives out tickets for the entire season in August via an online lottery, which you just missed. To enter the lotto (try again next August), just send all of your contact information to snltickets@ncbuni.com. You can not select a specific date and can only send one email per household. There are also a few tickets reserved each show for "people in the know", like Guy Fieri and the cast of Gossip Girl. But, just because it's now September and you have yet to be cast in a CW teen soap, doesn't mean you're out of luck, there are still a few stand-by tickets available for each show.

Is Destination Dissing Like Totally Uncool These Days?

March 16, 2009 at 10:24 AM | by | Comments (4)

Apparently even long after the presidential election has ended, viewers are still to tuning into Saturday Night Live on NBC. And this time, it's not just grounded teenagers watching. Politicians are also paying attention. And one politician in particular was pretty riled up over a recent skit. No, it wasn't Sarah Palin.

Lt. Governor James "Duke" Aiona of Hawaii recently voiced his displeasure about a skit that poked fun at folks who choose the Aloha State as their vacation destination. In fact, a whole bunch of people working for the Hawaii government are a little cranky over the way in which Hawaii hospitality was portrayed, claiming skits like these are further wounding their already beaten down tourism economy.

Funny Travel: Suspicious Samberg

May 1, 2008 at 8:50 AM | by | Comments (0)

This TSA agent at LAX probably saw Andy Samberg's "Iran So Far Away" SNL skit and came to the conclusion he really knows Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Instead of, you know, Fred Armisen looking very much like Ahmadinejad.

Besides SNL, Samberg just wrapped voice work on a kids' movie set to be released in 2008 called "Space Chimps." In the CGI movie, Samberg's character is the grandson of the original chimp astronaut who is tapped by a NASA commander (Patrick Warburton) to join a mission to defeat an evil alien (Jeff Daniels).
