Follow Amex for the Chance to Win A Trip to Antigua's Jumby Bay

February 22, 2010 at 12:33 PM | by | Comments (0)

Here's the good news: Amex is giving you a chance to win roundtrip airfare for 2 to Antigua and 4-nights of all-inclusive accommodation at Jumby Bay. The resort is located on a 300-acre private island in the Caribbean, the perfect setting for a "tweetheart" getaway.

To enter, all you have to do is follow @americanexpress on Twitter and tweet once: “Hey @americanexpress, I want to take my tweetheart (insert your sweetheart’s first name here) on the ultimate romantic getaway. Pick me! http://bit.ly/bFgMGU #amexTravel”. You only have until tonight at 11:59pm ET to enter. The winner will be chosen at random on February 23 and American Express will tweet the winner's name on February 24.

Here's the bad news: If you win, you may have to sleep with one eye open. Jumby Bay's rooms have no keys, that's right, the doors don't lock. Now, one would assume that with rates starting at $1,395 in the high season you'd be safe from crime, right? Wrong. Antigua has had some problems with crime recently, including the murder of a couple of honeymooners. But, Jumby Bay’s General Manager assures patrons they are safe, saying the resort is crime free and is protected by a retired U.S. Secret Service agent.

Even if there aren't locks on the doors, we think a free trip is worth the risk, so get tweeting!

Take a Snow Day: Head to the Greenest Ski Resort In All the Land

January 28, 2010 at 9:44 AM | by | Comments (0)

The Grand Targhee Resort, outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, just received another eco-honor. Skiing magazine has just named Targhee The Greenest Ski Resort as part of their Skiing's Green All Stars report. The honor was bestowed on Targhee for their efforts to reduce its emissions. The resort is retrofitting buildings, upgrading transportation and recycling programs, and constructing a greenhouse to grow fresh vegetables to help reduce the 2,958 metric tons of CO2 they use each year.

Targhee was also awarded Clif Bar’s 2009 Golden Eagle Award for Environmental Excellence by the National Ski Areas Association. “We got that award for our work on our greenhouse gas inventory,” Christina Thomure, Targhee’s director of sustainable operations said. “You have to report every source of emissions you have. Even when our employees go off site and travel, we report the mileage and estimate the amount of gasoline that’s used.”

Make Time For A 'Couples Retreat' In Bora Bora

Where: Bora Bora
October 12, 2009 at 4:38 PM | by | Comments (4)

Critics and fans who caught the movie "Couples Retreat" over the weekend may not have been that impressed with the movie's jokes, but at least the setting made up for it. The premise of this comedy, starring Vince Vaughn, Kristin Davis, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell, is that four couples travel to the "Eden Resort" for a vacation and find out that the resort's couples therapy sessions aren't optional.

The Eden Resort in the movie is actually the very upscale St. Regis Bora Bora in real life. The production took over the entire resort last fall for the shoot, meaning the cast and crew had to live there for nearly 8 weeks; tough gig, huh?
