If you haven’t seen The Descendants yet, you might want to do so, as apparently it’s playing out in real life over on Hawaii. Basically George Clooney’s character in the movie is forced with a tough decision about whether or not to sell his family’s ancestral land to outsiders. Now in real life it looks like the same thing is taking place, as someone is getting ready to write quite the significant check.
Larry Ellison—famous for founding Oracle and being super rich—just finalized a deal in which he will pretty much own a huge part of Hawaii. You heard us right; he’s buying his very own island, and he’s going call a very large part of Hawaii home. The deal will score him roughly 98% of the island of Lana’I, as he’s handing over some serious cash to David Murdock—a major holder in pineapple processor, Dole Food Company.
While nothing would give us greater pleasure than to do a series on places featured in the classic movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, a simple visit to Chicago should take care of most of your curiosity. That is, unless you've got a hankering to visit the real stars of the movie like Ferris' school or, even better yet, the infamous Ferrari House.
Since Ferris was filmed both in Chicago's downtown and suburbs, the suburban destinations are the hardest to locate and reach, thereby giving them cult status. While anyone is welcome to drive into the parking lot at Northbrook's Glenbrook North High School, the forest-hidden contemporary house in Highland Park, which serves as the home of Ferris' friend Cameron Frye, is far more secluded.
Now that his divorce is final, Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez is movin' out--and maybe moving closer to new squeeze Madonna. Just days after putting his old apartment at Trump Park Avenue on the market, A-Rod checked out condos at 15 Central Park West, a new limestone-clad building with park views. Hey, that's on the same street as Madonna's New York pad!
Other buyers in the building reportedly include Denzel Washington, Bob Costas and Sting (although he lives at another Upper West Side apartment a few blocks away).
Non-New Yorkers, check below the jump for a map that shows you just exactly how neighborly Madonna and A-Rod are getting.
