TSA Union Jumps into Action to Defend Deadbeat Florida Screeners

June 22, 2012 at 2:22 PM | by | ()

The TSA at Southwest Florida International Airport is broken. First there's this grope-on-grope national controversy, the details of which we absolutely lack the patience to untangle. A former agent violently groped a current agent to show how a third agent had maybe violently groped the former agent, because maybe the former agent was trying to show the current agent how the former agent should have been nonviolently groped by the third agent. And was once or is currently a co-worker of everyone else in the story. And somehow a hug is involved, and also obviously an arrest.

Here's a video of the arrested woman's attorney and here's the original footage so you can figure it out on your own.

Second, there's the story of the 43 screeners at RSW who, over a two month period, directly or indirectly failed to do random screenings during overnight shifts and missed about 400 passengers. In one sense the story is already old. The workers have either been suspended or terminated and replacement workers are in place. TSA is even engaged in public damage control with the help of sympathetic journalists. Done and done, right?

Five of the Best (and Newest) Airport Restaurants

March 23, 2011 at 10:27 AM | by | ()

We’re usually all over new routes, but before jetting across the globe you need something to eat. Lately new airport restaurants seem to be everywhere, so we thought we’d round up a few of the new and coming-soon sort for your culinary pleasure:

· Smashburger at EWR
One of the country’s best burger chains has yet to invade NYC, but it has debuted in one of the city’s airports. Newark Liberty International Airport just got its very own Smashburger, and after sampling their burger masterpieces in the Midwest, we have to say that this is definitely a good thing. It’s kind of like Five Guys—but with a little more fanciness—and should satisfy any greasy cravings you might have at the airport. Find the burgers, and their specialized New Jersey menu, within Terminal C3.

Airport WiFi: Free Signals from Boise to JFK

November 6, 2007 at 2:00 PM | by | ()

Contribute your airport wireless report by leaving it in comments, uploading your airport photo to Jaunted Flickr Photo Pool, or via email, and we will add it to our U.S. Airport Wireless map.

We put out the word for your airport WiFi tips, and you haven't disappointed. Our guide to airports that offer up free 'net access is growing almost every day.

Today's round of updates includes Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, a bigger airport than we're used to seeing on our map. We've also added some smaller airfields, including Albuquerque and Boise (pictured).

Also, we heard about the free WiFi at Delta's Crown Room club at JFK's Terminal 3. Park yourself near Gate 6, and you should be able to pick up the signal leaking out of the VIP lounge for free.
