50 Women to Avoid in Las Vegas

Despite what first comes to mind when you think of Sin City, prostitution is actually not legal in Clark County, Nevada. It's very illegal. And while police departments often make public the names and photos of johns that have been arrested for soliciting prostitutes, the Las Vegas Vice Enforcement division (which we imagine is a never-ending job) has decided to publicize the 50 most prolific working girls in town.
The girls names and mugshots were published last week in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Take a good, hard, long look at those ladies. They range from ages 20 to 41 and most of them have been arrested for exchanging sex for money inside several Strip hotels. Yes! That lady sitting next to you at the slot machines does NOT think you are cute. She is just hoping you will be a hot roller on the craps tables and will desire sexytime with her later.
But aside from protecting your ego, the city of Las Vegas is very concerned about the rise of prostitution. According to the LVRJ, prostitution arrests are up by 46 percent from two years ago. And ladies of the night have reportedly been aggressive with male tourists.
And since keeping tourism afloat in this tough economy is priority #1, Las Vegas will strongarm anyone who's messing with tourism (also known as revenue) to get outta town.

No Swaziland Sex Side Trips in 2010
Thinking of taking a side trip into Swaziland when you head to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup? Don't expect any lovin': Prostitution is illegal in Swaziland and the police are already making it clear that World Cup or not, exceptions will not be made.
In fact, we can't put it any better than local organizing group spokesperson Bongani Dlamini did:
When a tourist who needs the services of a sex worker arrives and finds that prostitution is prohibited, we will advise him accordingly that he has to propose for love to a Swazi girl first and then consent for sex.
Quite why the Swazi police are worrying about this eighteenth months in advance of the tournament is a mystery but at least that gives prospective punters time to learn to say "I love you" in Swati, the local language. It's a mouthful, so start practicing: "Ngiyakutsandza".

Amsterdam Now 20% Less Amsterdammy
It wasn't supposed to happen this way. The idea of making weed and prostitution legal - or quasi-legal - in Amsterdam was meant to remove the criminals from the equation, not encourage more criminals to get involved. But wouldn't you know it, recent years have seen a marked increase in scumbags who roll in to Amsterdam intent on harshing everybody's mellow, and now the gig is up. Authorities in the Dutch capital have had it with the organized crime syndicates who use the coffee shops, peep shows, massage parlors, and other red light businesses to launder money and front gambling parlors, so they're shutting them down. Well, not all of them, just about 20% of the city's special coffee shops in the town center, and an untold number of "windows" where scantily clad prostitutes beckon the lager louts who stagger around on stag parties. So what's left to do in Amsterdam besides getting screwed, blued, and tattooed? Well, the brilliant white light of sobriety and propriety just might steer you to the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, where you can admire the brush strokes of Dutch Masters like Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Steen. Or you could take in a concert at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, where the Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons leads some of Europe's most talented musicians through a program of classic and modern masterpieces. And if you're feeling sporty, you could watch Amsterdam Ajax play football in Amsterdam Arena. But if it's your destiny to be bad, then start off with a few pints at any of dozens of pubs throughout the city center and then go find your dens of sin. You won't have to go far.

Denver Gearing Up for Sex and Violence at Democratic National Convention
The Democratic National Convention is just eight days away, and the mile-high city of Denver is gearing up for four days of speechifying, glad-handing, and baby-kissing as Barack Obama officially accepts his party's nomination for the presidency. And while organizers are looking forward to a week of virtuous pronouncements, other groups are expecting the seedy side of the DNC to rear its ugly head.
News crews from CBS reportedly discovered a "concentration camp" that was built by local police to house all the protesters they expect to arrest during the convention. A warehouse on the north-east side of town was equipped with metal holding pens, fences topped with barbed wire, and a sign that warns of "electric stun devices used in this facility."
Meanwhile, an organization called Street's Hope is planning on reaching out to the 40,000 prostitutes they estimate will be in town to entertain the philandering delegates. The group aims to offer a way out for sex workers who want to leave their lives of prostitution, offering outreach, counseling, and lots of prayer. One can't help but wonder how many prostitutes they estimate the Republican convention will draw. Would they low-ball the figure to make the GOP look a bit more saintly?
In any case, if you're headed to Denver, be careful of where you protest and who you go to bed with, because plenty of sanctimonious moralists will be watching your every move.

Nevada Brothel Offers Customers Relief... From Pesky Airline Fees
The legendary Moonlite BunnyRanch brothel in Carson City, Nevada is offering customers a $15 "baggage rebate" in response to American Airlines' new fees. A press release posted on the brothel's website says:
The BunnyRanch will reimburse any customer $15 for their first bag at the brothel (upon receipt of baggage claim stub, we will credit your account).
We called up the BunnyRanch and spoke to their "sexy secretary" who told us that the offer isn't limited to clients who arrive the ranch via AA.
Dennis Hof, the BunnyRanch pimp and star of HBO's series "Cathouse," says he felt he had to act out against the injustice of excessive airline fees:
As long as the airlines keep sticking it to the consumer we feel obligated to help ... We're all about helping the little guy from the gougers in the air.
Hof's magnanimity makes sense: Prostitution is supposed to be a recession proof industry. Guess the rising cost of petroleum hasn't affected lubricant prices yet.

Exotic Flights
Exotic Flights is apparently a private jet service like any other, save for its old-school "sexy" flight attendants. According to his website, CEO Rudy Gonzalez has worked "logistics and security" for entertainers such as Mike Tyson and Christina Aguilera. We couldn't find much about them through Google, save this bit (fourth item down).
So, was this actually an SNL skit, or what? When we first found this commercial, we automatically assumed it was a mile-high call-girl service--maybe it had something to do with their "by the hour" rates and extensive "flight attendant" online picture gallery. After that, we figured it was a joke. Then we figured it was a real company's cheesy gimmick. Now we can't decide, but we're too scared to call them and find out.

What We Talk About When We Talk About Hookers
[We have removed the image that was posted here. We sincerely apologize for the mistake.]
Looks like Brazil has its first blogging celebrity, and she's a prostitute. Rachel Pacheco, who went by the name Bruna on a blog documenting her days as a hooker in São Paulo, sold more than 100,000 copies of her autobiographical book after it came out last year. The book has caused a minor to-do in Brazil, but not because of the content of the book, which manages to be both explicit and tame: the author only refers to the first letter of body parts when things get graphic. The translators must have had a fun time with that one.
While we applaud the fact that the woman got a book deal out of being, um, a whore, isn't it odd that in many countries the first blogs to be turned into books are those written by hookers? Belle du Jour, even if she wasn't, you know, actually a hooker, did get a book deal, too. Maybe the Economist can update their Big Mac index to track how long it takes a hooker/blogger to get a book deal in each country to rate the relative levels of prosperity in each. Just a thought.
