Watch This Traveler Totally Rock an Airport Piano

August 11, 2014 at 8:57 AM | by | Comments (0)

We know how it goes at the airport. It’s noisy, it’s crowded, and you’re just trying to do your thing until it’s time to step aboard and head out of town. The live terminal entertainment is usually pretty limited, but thankfully Maan Hamadeh recently stepped up Prague's Václav Havel Airport to take things to the next level.

The pianist performed his take—and takes—on Beethoven's Fur Elise, and then he moved onto that Celine Dion song from Titanic. As wonderful as the performance was we could have gone without My Heart Will Go On—it will be in our head all day long.

Anyway, take a moment to watch the clip from the airport, as it will likely put a smile on your face—or at least make you want to take up the piano.

Fly to Prague, and You'll Be Landing at Vaclav Havel International Airport

March 23, 2012 at 8:34 AM | by | Comments (0)

It’s not quite as close to home as the new airport name down in Little Rock, but another airport is getting ready to change and update plenty of signs. Prague Ruzyne International Airport is getting a new name, and it’s all because plenty of Czechs have been pretty vocal about changing it.

Residents think renaming the airport after former President Václav Havel is a great idea, and after plenty of pleading and petitioning it sounds like it’s a done deal. Even the Transport Minister is now onboard, and he’s thinking that the best day to change over the airport will be on October 5—that would have been the late president’s 76th birthday.

How to Survive 'The World's Most Alienating Airport'

March 31, 2009 at 9:00 AM | by | Comment (1)

Prague's Franz Kafka International Named World's Most Alienating Airport

In one sense this clip isn't totally inaccurate. Every airport has its own quirks. Ruzyne Airport in Prague is no different - empty information desks, lost luggage, and the occasional empty cash machine that still debits your bank account. There's a reason they're trying to privatize it.

Getting into and out of Prague can also be a hassle. We strongly recommend that you avoid the fixed-priced taxis. Instead avail yourself of bus #119, which runs about every 10 minutes and takes you to the beginning of the city's gorgeously efficient metro.

None of which compares, of course, to the angst-ridden existential ennui uncovered by the Onion's intrepid correspondents as shown in the clip. They call the airport Franz Kafka International Airport but just like the security checkpoint officer who stamped the word "Liar" on a passenger's hand, the Onion is just poking fun. Don't try to book a flight using airport code FKI or anything.

On the other hand, any report that implies that there's a European airport more infuriating than Alitalia-dominated Da Vinci/Fiumicino - in jest or otherwise - is just plain untenable.

What do you think is the most 'alienating' or infuriating airport? Let us know!
