PEOPLExpress' First Flight Deals Go Out on Facebook

June 13, 2014 at 10:24 AM | by | Comments (0)

In case you missed the news, know that PEOPLExpress is heading into the skies above the nifty fifty once again, and tickets for the new low-cost carrier are definitely budget-friendly. If you don't completely trust a brand new airline enough to give them your vacation money, we understand, which is why following them and their deals on social media is a solid idea.

PEOPLExpress is already busy doing their thing over on Facebook, and you can head over there to see what they’re up to. Unfortunately, we don’t see any current promotions, contests, or other deals right now—but there is a good-looking picture of their plane in its white and green livery. The other day, however, their Facebook page teased a $40 discount, so long as those who wanted to book called into the 844-4FLYPEX number and mentioned it. No idea if they’ll do this again, but it might be worth it to keep an eye out.

Throwback Thursday: A Look at the Former PEOPLExpress

June 12, 2014 at 11:05 AM | by | Comments (0)

For this edition of Throwback Thursday let’s go back to a time where there was no high definition, no streaming content, and definitely no in-flight WiFi—the 1980s. With PEOPLExpress back in the news we figured we’d take a look at what was going on decades ago, and the best part is that their fares haven't much increased in price.

Here’s a couple vintage advertisements that may or may not have first aired before we were teething. One touts the straightforward approach of the airline, and how they’re free from the “double-talk” of some other carriers. The other shows off some $59 and $79 fares to and from New York.

Breaking: PEOPLExpress Opens Booking for Cheapy $76 Flights

June 4, 2014 at 4:10 PM | by | Comments (0)

It's alive!!! PEOPLExpress, an airline which flew from 1981-1987 and was absorbed into Continental, has re-emerged with new planes and new plans which'll make budget travelers very happy.

Ticket booking went live this afternoon, and we immediately jumped on their website (FlyPEX.com) to view airfares from their base at Newport News/Williamsburg, VA.

There's good news and bad news. The good news is that all airfares start at $76 each way, with flights beginning June 30th. The bad news is that PEOPLExpress won't simply revive their historical routes, so there'll be no international destinations in a 747 (the 1980s version of the airline also flew to London, Montreal, and Brussels). Instead, PEOPLExpress will keep operations close to home, flying all-economy Boeing 737s up and down the Northeast and Southeast.

PEOPLExpress Still Plans On Flying, Maybe As Soon As This Summer

January 17, 2013 at 9:10 AM | by | Comments (0)

There hasn’t been a lot of recent news kicking around regarding PEOPLExpress and their plans to finally hit the skies. It sounds like they’re still quite a bit away from flying to here and there, but they’re still hard at work arranging the moo-lah, planes, and people to get things moving.

Down in Newport News, Virginia there’s some cash on the way for the airline as the regional airport committee recently gave the go ahead to get the ball rolling on a $500,000 loan to help bring the new carrier to the area. This would help PEOPLExpress acquire the necessary charter services and five airplanes, and finally get the show on the road.

More Bad News from PEOPLExpress Points to a 2013 Launch

July 23, 2012 at 10:09 AM | by | Comments (0)

There are no planes as of yet, but once again PEOPLExpress is already running into a little bit of difficulty. The last we heard from them was bad news based on government issued fines, and this latest update doesn’t sound that great either.

The folks over at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette are reporting that the airline is delayed once again. There’s been no contract, agreement, or anything else related to securing some new airplanes—we’re thinking those are, like, step one in building an airline. Also, it sounds like the carrier isn’t exactly flying through the certification process, nor are they completing all the required paperwork in a timely manner.

PEOPLExpress Hits Trouble Before Even Hitting the Skies

May 14, 2012 at 9:01 AM | by | Comments (0)

They haven’t even starting flying yet, and they’re already in trouble. Unfortunately, that's the case for the new airline with an old name—PEOPLExpress—as Uncle Sam already isn’t too fond of one of their business practices.

The airline has been promoting memberships into what its calling “Club Travelati,” as it hopes to get potential passengers to sign up for their flight and travel discount program. They’ve already taken down all the information from their website, but basically they were selling a service before it was really even available. That didn’t go over too well with the US Department of Transportation, so now the airline-to-be is getting hit with a $10,000 fine.

PEOPLExpress is Back in Business and Calling Virginia Home

February 14, 2012 at 6:51 AM | by | Comments (0)

Whoa crazy airline news! Remember PEOPLExpress? Well, we don’t either—we’re a little too young—but the airline did the low-fare thing during much of the 1980s before being gobbled up by Continental Airlines. Well, PEOPLExpress is coming back, and they’re looking to start up service to and from Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport, VA. Of course we’re reminded of recent airline failures like Skybus or JetAmerica, but nonetheless we are excited to see what they’re all about.

The plan for the new PEOPLExpress is to bring back some of the fun in flying, and they’re promising “unsurpassed customer service” along with “value, integrity, and ingenuity.” They’re already touting no hidden fees or charges, and they’ll even be happy to check your luggage for free. You’ll get a seat assignment prior to boarding, and they’re going to accomplish all of this with one-way fares that could start as low as $69.
