December 1, 2009 at 9:36 AM | by Jennifer Kester | 0 Comments

Now that Oprah officially announced she'll book it out of Chicago once her TV show ends in September 2011, it's a good time to head to the Windy City to tour the daytime diva's favorite local haunts.

Although the TV hostess doesn't make public appearances in the city often, we found out which restaurants and shops O visits when she does venture out. Who knows, take this DIY tour and you might run into her before she departs for the West Coast.

Oprah's Private Jet Pilot And Flight Attendant Get Caught In The (Sex) Act

October 14, 2009 at 8:38 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

You know what two words we don't enjoy hearing placed together in a sentence? "Oprah" and "sex." But with a new lawsuit against the talk show host and one-woman conglomerate, it looks like we'll have to endure their combination for a while.

Recently one of Oprah's former flight attendants on her private jet files a defamation of character suit against Winfrey, since Winfrey had fired her after supposedly catching her joining the Mile High Club with the jet's pilot while in the air and as passengers (including Winfrey) slept. Although this sounds like a topic Oprah would use for a show—"no-limits intimacy," anyone?—the matter is serious and the flight attendant claims that Oprah's accusations are false since all sex acts between her and the pilot only occurred while "occurred while the plane was safely landed and refueling." Oh okay, because now that it's all clear, that makes it alright.

Oprah Will Throw A Massive Public Party On Chicago's Michigan Avenue

Where: Michigan Avenue [map], Chicago, IL, United States
September 3, 2009 at 8:39 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

This picture actually happened

All this weekend, Chicago will be battening the hatches in preparation for the street party of the decade. Beginning at 12:01am Monday morning and ending at 5am on Wednesday, the three blocks of Michigan Avenue from Wacker Drive to Ohio Street will be closed specially for Oprah. Actually, for Oprah's show season kickoff taping, and everybody is invited.

The actual show taping is only an hour long, starting at 5pm on Tuesday, but the street needs to be closed for the erection of a temporary stage at the river and proper preparation for crowd control and security. If you do manage to squeeze into the three blocks on Tuesday for the free show, including a performance by the Black Eyed Peas and countless other celebrity surprises, be sure to DVR the airing of the episode on September 10—9.14 is the normal premiere.

Overcoming The Five Common Mistakes Tourists Make In Chicago

August 12, 2009 at 1:49 PM | by Jennifer Kester | 1 Comment

There’s so much to do in this bustling city, but without some guidance visitors seem to miss out on the full Chicago experience. Since we've got mad love for the Windy City, we'll help you out with some hints at enjoying the local side of life while still getting your tourist kicks. Jaunted's list of Five Common Mistakes Tourists Make While Visiting Chicago:

· Waiting in long lines to get to the top of the John Hancock Center.
Get out of the long queues for the observatory. Instead, use the $15 admission fee on a Peach Cosmo at The Signature Lounge on the 96th floor, where you can kick back and drink in the gorgeous city views for free. Stick to drinks in the lounge however, since the food in the restaurant (The Signature Room) isn't anything to write home about.

Hollywood, Meet Tylerwood: Black Celebrities Fete Atlanta Movie Studio

October 6, 2008 at 9:15 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

Time to give Tyler Perry his due: After continually stealing number one at the box office, nudging his show "House of Payne" into syndication and continuing to adapt his original plays into movie gold, Perry put the cash together to open up his very own movie studio.

Friends like Oprah and Sidney Poitier celebrated the opening of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia (in a former airline reservations center, no less!) at a Saturday party. Will Smith brought his smiling face and Perry ensemble player Cicely Tyson brought a date to hear Patti LaBelle perform.

Of course, as with any huge party, there were crashers: Writers Guild representatives claim Perry fired four writers from "House of Payne" for participating in WGA activities. Perry's studio may be bright and shiny, but his show is one of the only scripted productions without a union presence.

Commencement Travel: Everybody Gets a Platitude!

June 16, 2008 at 10:30 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

By her own admission, she left school one credit short and didn't finish for 22 years, but Oprah Winfrey was deemed more than qualified to address graduating students at Stanford University yesterday. Winfrey told the grads to find what makes them happiest, but the media mogul had something to celebrate: Her goddaughter Kirby Bumpus, daughter of BFF Gayle King, was among the Stanford Class of 08 and got a special shout out:

After four years, I finally get to see her room. Love you, Kirbycakes.

The talk show host did not repeat her one-time stunt of giving a car to everyone in the audience, but she did leave the grads two of her favorite books to read--and neither of them was Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Oprah and long-time man friend Stedman Graham later took a walk on campus (with her security detail), quietly observing a number of the festivities including the American Studies and Religious Studies department ceremony.
