That sonic boom you heard emanating from the tri-state area was the sound of millions of Yankees fans, having been cruelly denied a World Series title, finally ending a 9-year drought last night with a 7-3 victory in Game 6. After the game, third baseman Alex Rodriguez and his girlfriend Kate Hudson hit the Meatpacking District, partying at 1Oak with his mom and sister and shortstop Derek Jeter and his girlfriend ("Friday Night Lights"' Minka Kelly).
Even the revelation that Rodriguez has a painting of himself as a centaur in his bedroom failed to slow the Yankees in the rush to their 27th title. Other celebrity Yankees fans include Alec Baldwin, who was spotted in the stands during Game 1, and Jay-Z who performed "Empire State Of Mind" at Yankee Stadium before Game 2. Game 6's celeb ticket holders included Will Forte, Spike Lee and Regis Philbin. (None of them were at 1Oak to the best of our knowledge, though.) On the other hand, it might be appropriate to buy a drink for Will Smith, Tina Fey and Vice President Joe Biden, all Phillies fans.
Once again Jaunted Flickr Pool member Chris Gold has come through with a bunch of great travel snapshots for us to sift through on this lazy Friday before Labor Day. Spotted at the Palais Club Disco in Cannes: a girl dancing barefoot on the bar. Not a very wise idea in our opinion. There could be sharp glass and sticky grenadine
and blow on that bar there. But when it's hot in Cannes, it doesn't matter.
The massive club can hold about 2,500 jetsetters. Their dress code is listed as "dressy" and this is not a cheap joint. Prepare to max out your Amex. Or get Gianfranco to foot the bill. But it does have a rooftop from where you can gaze out at the Mediterranean and escape the deeply-tanned Euros smoking cigarettes and waving their sparklers.
Sadly, if you're looking to party at the Palais, you'll have to wait until next summer. The club had its summer closing party last weekend.

LA Live is the newest attraction to open in L.A. Essentially, it's a $$2.5 billion lure, designed to get more folks to downtown Los Angeles. (Sidenote: You know you have run out of room in LA when you are building something in downtown.) While the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels are still under construction as are some residential and office spaces, much of LA Live is now open including the Nokia Theater which anchors the new complex and offers up the Nokia Plaza, a sort of miniscule Times Square with scrolling LED screens and pretty much anything you can light up, including trees.
Lindsay Lohan partied with her potential squeeze Samantha Ronson this weekend at the East Hampton club Lily Pond. It's a rare East Coast appearance for Lohan as she gives her mother's reality show "Living Lohan" a wide berth and sticks to her new movie "Labor Pains," being shot outside of LA.
So are The Hamptons over? A few weeks ago The New York Times described the gradual drift of the Hamptons crowd toward Montauk as the exclusive addresses of Martha Stewart and P. Diddy draw more and more of the "wrong crowd."
Not that there's been a serious dip in Jitney ridership yet, but at least the fundraising crowd is cutting back on their Hamptons trips, leaving your friendly neighborhood nonprofit to feel the pinch. So before you go, leave some money in Manhattan!
