Now that the world's most popular cycle race has kicked off, 3-week-long the Tour de France is inspiring us to think back on our own travels throughout France. From soaking up the sun in St. Tropez to finding the best pan au chocolat on the streets of Paris, we're taking our own Tour de France, Jaunted-style.
The Tour celebrates its 100th birthday this year and it's already kicked off from the French Mediterranean island of Corsica. From the island, the cyclists pop over to the mainland and continue the 2,115 mile bike ride by whizzing by the picturesque scenery of the French Riviera.

Nothing says glam quite like the French Riviera, so itís fitting that Nice Airportwhile it may be smallis beautifully formed. From the airport buildings that look like a grand hotel to the palm trees by where the planes parked, arriving there is all rather glamorous, but the most glamorous part of all is the runway itself.
See, Nice airport is right on the coastthe runway is actually built out in the seaso landing there, if youíre on the right side, gives the impression youíre in a seaplane. Luckily, we had a hunch and chose our side well; a nice blast of adrenaline as you come in to land over the water, and a nice surge of prettiness as you land with the wing practically skimming the Mediterranean. Views of the surrounding coastline arenít half bad either.
You know, we don't get to talk about The Principality of Monaco enough. It's been a while since we last tripped over the postage stamp-sized country, but we're thinking it could be about time to return, especially if they're talking about doing direct connections between helicopters from Monaco and flights from Nice International Airport.
The news comes from HeliAir Monaco, who already keep the waterfront buzzing with 70,000-100,000 per year at the heliport. Currently, you can take a helicopter from Monaco to the Nice Cote d'Azur Airport in six minutes, but you've then still got to check into your flight and go through security. HeliAir is however renovating their heliport and in the final stages of making it possible to check in and clear security at the heliport, allowing you to go straight into the departure lounge for your flight from Nice.
We once did this with the old Wall Street-to-JFK helicopter service for a Delta flight, and it hearkens all the way back to the days when Pan Am flew upper class passengers from the top of their Midtown HQ direct to their waiting flights at JFK. But we're not talking about JFK; this is Monaco. Thus, we're surprised they haven't already had this in place. The price of a one-way flight from Monaco to Nice Airport now? 103 Euros.
