Dates Announced for New York Restaurant Week, Summer 2012

June 19, 2012 at 11:32 AM | by | Comments (0)

OMG. The moment has arrived: the dates for the Summer 2012 New York City Restaurant Week are announced! Foodies, start your engines (and start looking into flights and hotels) to enjoy the $24.07 Lunch and $35 3-course Dinner menus at some of the city's best restaurants. The dates are extra long this year as the city goes for nearly a full Restaurant Month: July 16 to August 10.

Reservations aren't open yet, but that doesn't mean it's too early to set up your short list. Check out our Top 5 restaurant picks from Restaurant Week, Winter 2012. And, if you're curious about what to expect with a Restaurant Week meal, feel free to check out our photo galleries of our meals from the last couple seasons (we always do at least a few meals on our own, because it's awesome). These were Ai Fiori, The Modern, Park Avenue Summer, The Russian Tea Room and L'Ecole.

Reservations open July 9! Don't worry; the second that the restaurant list becomes available, we'll be on it like gold leaf on a dark chocolate torte.

Jaunted's Top Five Picks for New York Winter Restaurant Week 2012

January 5, 2012 at 1:47 PM | by | Comments (0)

The bar at Red Rooster

Yesterday we made the happy announcement that reservations are open for NYC's Winter Restaurant Week. Now, we're going to come through on our promise to let you in on our top picks.

Without further ado, our 5 top picks for New York Restaurant Week Winter 2012:

· Red Rooster, Harlem
3-course lunch for $24.07
If you can get yourself up to Harlem for a midday meal, then this is our highest recommendation. Not only is Red Rooster the current talk of the town, but it's actually worthy of the hype. It's soul food with a Swedish touch, on account of (Top Chef Masters winner) Chef Marcus Samuelsson's mixed African-Scandi background. We just hit up Red Rooster ourselves for their Sunday Gospel Brunch and ummm yeah. We'll be back real soon. Do not miss the Cornbread, Mac & Greens (omg) and Fried Yard Bird.

Forks Up! NYC Restaurant Week Reservations are Now Open

The Ratatouille L'Ecole burger during NYFW last year

Go and get 'em! Reservation booking has just opened up here for the semiannual NYC Restaurant Week, aka one of our favorite (and super highly recommended) city food events. This is the 20th anniversary of the event, and the eating takes place for longer this time around, lasting from January 16 - February 10 (weekdays only).

Get over to OpenTable quickly to snap up the best and newest tables, among them Boulud Sud and Maialino, lest you get stuck dining at some Theater District steakhouse that survives on tourists being loose with their money and not too particular about what's on their plate.

And Travel Channel's Manliest Restaurants in the USA Are...

December 1, 2011 at 9:40 AM | by | Comments (0)

Inside Keen's in NYC

What makes a restaurant "manly?" Well, it's probably got leather booths and lots of red meat, and a cosmo probably won't be the first thing the bartender recommends. Of course all of this is spot-on for a certain class New York City dining institution—Keen's Steakhouse—and last night, the Travel Channel named it the Manliest Restaurant in the Northeast.

The testosterone didn't stop there, however; the Travel Channel dedicated an entire episode of their Food Paradise series to manly restaurant across the entire United States, bestowing such an illustrious title on an eatery in each region of the continental 48. Even though Men's Health Magazine was involved in the process (and the December issue has more on these places), the winners all had one thing in common: their love for meat.

Forks at the Ready! New York Restaurant Week Begins Right Now

July 11, 2011 at 10:01 AM | by | Comments (0)

Ready...steady...EAT! Today is the first day of the two-week-long NY Restaurant Week, and although we've had our reservations booked for a bit now, the excitement hasn't died. Here's the deal: twice a year, many of New York's fanciest restaurants offer a reduced prix fixe meal of three course, for $35 at dinner and $24.07 at lunch. This is the summer edition, and thus we suggest aiming for restaurants with alfresco options.

Bookings opened almost two weeks ago, but that doesn't mean you'll be left out in the heat. Several places, like Chelsea hotspot Rocking Horse Cafe and theatre district mainstay Joe Allen, only accept phoned-in resys, meaning you may still have a chance because sometimes, people are just lazy if they can't book it online immediately.

Hope You're Hungry! Reservations Open for NYC Summer Restaurant Week 2011

June 28, 2011 at 9:56 AM | by | Comments (0)

Go and get 'em! Reservation booking has just opened up here for NYC Restaurant Week, aka one of our favorite (and super highly recommended) semiannual city events. The eating takes place from July 11-24, but get over there quickly to snap up the best and newest tables, among them Macelleria and Osteria Morini, lest you get stuck dining at some Theater District steakhouse that survives on tourists being loose with their money and not too particular about what's on their plate.

Scanning down the list of the 320+ participating restaurants, we see that Ai Fiori is back with their excellent lunch, as is Cafe Boulud and Gotham Bar & Grill. These are highly recommended Jaunted favorites, but—omg—the new Lincoln at Lincoln Center is opening up for lunch as well. Score!

How to Get Tickets to the New York Wine and Food Festival

June 21, 2011 at 10:15 AM | by | Comments (0)

Mmm food festivals. When it comes to the best events in the USA for wining and dining here, there and everywhere, the NYC Wine and Food Fest totally ranks high enough to get people all in a tizzy over it. The event, which brings together the best chefs and restauranteurs (and those who love them) for around 200 mini-events, happening all over the city, all weekend long. For 2011, the dates you need to know are September 29 - October 2, and tickets have just gone on sale.

Ranging in price from $20 to $500, the tickets aren't just to make The Food Network or Food & Wine magazine richer. 100% of proceeds go to charity, so it shouldn't be too hard to justify dropping that $500 to attend a dinner honoring His Royal Highness Prince Robert of Luxembourg and Jacques Pépin. To gauge how quickly certain events are selling out, here's a nice page with little pie charts illustrating just that.

Why Delta's Celeb Chef Michelle Bernstein Loves Warm Nuts

April 27, 2011 at 11:37 AM | by | Comments (0)

Before you're even ready to take a bite of her food, Chef Michelle Bernstein will make your jaw drop. Her credentials are enough to get foodies quivering, as she's owner of several heavily awarded restaurants, a James Beard award winner, an Iron Chef winner (versus Bobby Flay), a Food Network personality with her own cookware line, and an author. Ah yes—and she's Delta's celebrity chef, formulating special courses to be enjoyed in-flight by those in BusinessElite or First Class on select flights.

We were fortunate to meet Chef Bernstein on Monday night, as Delta rewarded their most loyal flyers—the Ryan Binghams of this world—with a private dinner at New York's JBF LTD, a one-month pop-up restaurant from the James Beard Society. What did we want to know of the decorated chef? Only her official position on warm nuts—the warm nuts you're served before an in-flight meal, that is.

Get a Great Meal in NYC, Give Greatly to the Red Cross in Japan

March 24, 2011 at 12:21 PM | by | Comments (0)

There's no reason in trying to disguise our love for New York restaurants or for Japan as we sure talk about both often enough, but rarely is it that these passions come together for anything other than excellent sushi; now, they're combining for charity. According to Crain's, restaurants around New York City have banded together to donate 5% of their total sales from March 23-30 and donate them to the Red Cross' efforts in Japan.

Participating restaurants are of all cuisines; there's the ramen restaurant Ippudo, trendy Mercer Kitchen in Soho, and French Rockefeller Center spot Brasserie Ruhlmann. The latter will be perfect for those who orchestrated this whole thing, because it's NBC Universal that's behind the warm-heartedness of it all. Maybe we'll see Jack Donaghy at the table next to us, hm?

We Love When This Happens: NY Restaurant Week Extended!

February 7, 2011 at 5:31 PM | by | Comments (0)

A dessert at Ai Fiori

Dear fellow foodies: we have good news and we have awesome news. The good news is that NYC Restaurant Week has been extended until February 27. The awesome news is that the prices—$24.07 for lunch and $35 for dinner—remain the same, the restaurants are still game, and visitors to the city for the next couple weeks can enjoy the extension on the prix fixe meal deals.

Granted, Restaurant Week has become something more like Restaurant Month the last few times it's been offered, but you're not hearing any complaints from us. In fact, we kind of prefer these extra few weeks because the hype has died down, many diners have exceeded their Restaurant Week budgets already, and thus it's easier grabbing those primo reservations (especially when we're talking top lunches).

To take advantage of Restaurant Month, go here to see what restaurants are taking part in which meals, and even have a glance at the menus. Click through to book on OpenTable.com and check out our previous meal reviews here. We'll see you at the bar...

NYC Restaurant Week Report: L'Ecole at the French Culinary Institute

Where: 462 Broadway [map], New York, NY, United States, 10013
January 31, 2011 at 5:49 PM | by | Comments (0)

We are happy to report that New York City's semiannual Restaurant Week has begun, and the city is absolutely packing places to take advantage of the three-course $24.07 lunches and $35 dinners.

It's only been since last Restaurant Week that some of the best restaurant in New York City have deigned to offer their discounted, prix-fixe menus on Sunday for brunch and dinner. Thus, it's still a novelty for us to indulge on the weekend, when previously that was the realm of the full-price only. And after seeing L'Ecole's substantial menu, we booked it for Sunday brunch and started planning what cocktail to order.

L'Ecole is the restaurant of the French Culinary Institute, so of course something with champagne...

Now, what we ate at our $24.07 brunch at L'Ecole at the French Culinary Institute:

NYC Restaurant Week Report: Chef Michael White's Ai Fiori

January 28, 2011 at 5:36 PM | by | Comments (0)

We are happy to report that New York City's semiannual Restaurant Week has begun, and the city is absolutely packing places to take advantage of the three-course $24.07 lunches and $35 dinners.

It's crazy to think, but we're already half-way through NYC Restaurant Week and we haven't done a meal yet. Forgive us—we were in Milan, but now we're back and jumping in with a $24.07 lunch at Ai Fiori, the newest venture from Michelin-starred chef Michael White, also behind such successes as Marea and Osteria Morini. Ai Fiori specializes in the cuisine of the Italian Riviera and is situated in classy digs at the just-opened Setai Hotel in Midtown. Booking was easy on OpenTable, and there's still openings for lunches through next week.

Now, what we ate at our $24.07 lunch at Ai Fiori at The Setai Hotel:
