The Best Spots for Spotting Models During New York Fashion Week

New York's semiannual Fashion Week has begun! Full daily schedules of runway shows will last through this weekend and well into next week, while the city enjoys the big spending of foreign fashion editors and industry heavyweights. But we can't forget about the models! With over a hundred shows happening, you can bet that a sea of beauty has just washed into NYC. Here are The Five Best Places for Model-Watching During NYC Fashion Week:

· The subway, specifically lines that touch the west side of Manhattan:
The trains to travel on, if you want to sit across from models clutching their iPad portfolios or show schedules, are the E, C and 1 trains. These travel closest to Lincoln Center, the fashion offices of the garment district, the west side galleries where parties and shows take place, the better hotels in Soho and Tribeca, and the photo studios of the far west side. The model spotting on these lines starts earliest of all, like 1.5 weeks before fashion week, as models swarm the city on appointments and fittings before the big event.

New York Fashion Week: More Browsing, Less Buying

The bankers from whose coffers designer clothing is bought may have lost their jobs, but the show must go on at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York -- and at least for now, no one is staying away, even if the clothes aren't as butterfly-vivid as before.

Fashion research firm Pantone announced the official color of fashion week was "iron," a grayish-brown they found in almost one in every six collections being put on. Some designers countered allegations of insensitive frivolity in this climate with toned-down looks, the kind women might actually wear straight off the runway. That meant black turtlenecks at DKNY, brightly colored accent pieces (to mix and match with what you already own) at Diane von Furstenberg and lots of dull grays in the Calvin Klein men's collection.
