Abu Dhabi Takes First Rihanna-fied Steps To Becoming Party Capital

January 4, 2010 at 2:21 PM | by JetSetCD | 1 Comment

Well, at least she kept her thighs under lock and key...

The New Years holiday is the time for celebrities to scatter themselves all around the globe, from the ski slopes to the beaches of St. Barths, but if you're a celebrity entertainer, then the odds are that you've got a very well-paying gig you'd rather not miss.

Such was the case with Rihanna, who did a very hyped, very controversial concert in Abu Dhabi at the Emirates Palace for 10,000 fans, followed by fireworks. Although the girl raked in $500,000 for a few songs—and no doubt had a private, paid-for jet to get her through the crazy airport security of the weekend—the controversy came when they asked her to cover up a little more than usual for the performance.

Where To Elope For January 01, 2010: Las Vegas, Baby!

December 28, 2009 at 1:34 PM | by Jennifer Kester | 0 Comments

If you want to ring in the New Year with a ring on your left finger, make like Ed Helms' Stu on The Hangover and head to Vegas. Here's your guide on how to elope in Sin City, but if you're looking to pull out a tooth, you're on your own.

Obviously, Vegas is the capital of quickie weddings, with more than 100,000 couples saying "I do" there each year, according to the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. And the options are overwhelming. You could do everything from a wedding-on-the-go at the Little White Wedding Chapel's Tunnel of Love drive-through window for as cheap as $40—though you have to supply your own car—to a slightly more upscale affair at the Wynn, where perks include a wedding consultant, a private limo ride from the airport to the courthouse for the license and use of the private wedding salon. Packages be as high as $23,090, to ensure you won't be cheated from that overpriced wedding feel.

Five Funky Alternatives To The New Year's Ball Drop

December 28, 2009 at 11:34 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Everyone knows about that crystal ball drop in Times Square to celebrate the New Year, but there’s even better stuff falling from the sky around the country. If New York City is out of range this year, there might just be something a little more unique to welcome in 2010 close to home. Here’s just five of the New Year’s best celebrations dedicated to things falling from the sky and rising into it.

Five Places Where Weird Stuff Is Dropping In 2010

· Huge Hershey Kiss in Hershey, Pennsylvania
If you still haven’t had enough candy this holiday season, then take a ride out to Hershey for one more chance to binge on chocolate before the resolutions kick in. Everything is free and all the action takes place at the corner of Chocolate and Park Avenues—how cute. There’s no booze here, but the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies—remember them—will be performing at 10:30pm and midnight. As 2010 comes in, a giant Hershey’s Kiss will rise into the night sky followed by some fireworks.

The World's Top Three Glittery New Year's Celebrations

December 24, 2009 at 10:05 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

You can drink, you can dance, and you can kiss someone at the stroke of midnight anywhere, but somehow the experience of New Year's has more resonance when you're doing all things in the presence of pyrotechnics or a giant crystal ball covered in lights. Hey, everyone likes something sparkly and exciting, and so we sincerely hope that you get to celebrate the turn into 2010 at one of The World's Top Three Glittery New Year's Celebrations.

3. Paris, France
Paris isn't called "The City of Lights" just for the heck of it; not only will you be able to stuff your face full of cheap Nutella crepes on the street, but you'll be able to do so while walking down a traffic-free Champs d'Elysées, bordered by Christmas light-covered trees and bookended by the illuminated Arc de Triomphe and Place de la Concorde. But with so many historical landmarks and gorgeous buildings, you'll have decisions to make. How about kissing at midnight in front of the Eiffel Tower, as it goes crazy with a lights display? C'est magnifique.

Greenland Will Celebrate The New Year Twice In One Night

Where: Greenland
December 22, 2009 at 11:47 AM | by Jennifer Kester | 1 Comment

Times Square may be the one of the craziest places to hang out on New Year's Eve, with the massive crowds and chilly weather. But for those who want to party hard, the place to ring in '10 is Greenland, which celebrates New Year's twice in one night. You know what that means: double the amount of drinking.

The first New Year's celebration goes down at 8 p.m. for Danish New Year, in honor of Greenland's history with Denmark. Although Greenland is a self-governing body, Denmark has ruled the island since 1762 and continues to do so today, albeit more loosely, helping oversee foreign policy and defense. To respect its longtime ruler, Greenland gets the party started early because of the four-hour time difference between the two countries.

Helliday Madness Has Us Dreaming of Waikiki to Kick Off 2010

December 14, 2009 at 5:44 PM | by Heidi Atwal | 1 Comment

With the holidays in full swing, we're spent. Finished. Dunzo. We surrender. Quite frankly, if we have to brave one more packed-like-sardines parking lot or feign full-on merriment, some of us might have an aneurysm.

Melodramatic? Perhaps, but don't tell us that you, too, aren't feeling the seasonal crunch. And then there's New Year's to consider, party and/or travel planning which is a task in and of itself. Here's an idea, though: doing up NYE staycation-style and planning a Hawaiian getaway to kick off 2010, not to mention cleanse yourself of fruitcake nightmares.
