Natalie Portman and her folksy boyfriend Devendra Banhart went to see the sights in Jaffa, Israel recently, but what's with his ultra-short shorts? They may be cool on the beach or in most American cities, but that is a whole lotta leg for sightseeing abroad.
While Portman sports some demure and clean Bermudas, her sleeve-free arms may also pose a problem if she wants to enter holy buildings, which occasionally ask women to cover up. (In a mosque she would also probably be asked to cover her head out of respect.)
Time to add a pashmina or shawl to our one bag packing list. If Natalie doesn't want to wear it, maybe he could... as a skirt.
LA's hottest new location isn't a hot club or a pool shaped like Barack Obama's head. It's the Echo Park Time Travel Mart, whose motto reads, "Wherever You Are, We're Already There."
Natalie Portman, Michael Cera and Catherine Keener have all showed up to pick up some of those necessary commodities like robot milk and barbarian repellent.
The store, which hawks time-traveling supplies, is (shh!) a front for author Dave Eggers' nonprofit writing center 826LA. Eggers' tradition of pairing outlandish stores with his tutoring locations began with 826 Valencia, which because of its zoning had to contain a commercial venture. He's so far opened a pirate supply store, and now has a superhero shop, a space-travel emporium and a monster boutique.
Don't be fooled by that demure look: Natalie Portman has a steamy love scene in her latest project, a short film set in the famous Hotel des Chevaliers in Paris.
The 15-minute short entitled, appropriately, "Hotel Chevalier" co-stars Jason Schwartzman and takes place in one room of the hotel in Paris' bourgeois Marais neighborhood, between the 3rd and 4th arrondisements. The hotel has only 24 rooms, but each is equipped with air conditioning, and an overnight stay includes breakfast in its 17th-century basement.
The film is intended as a prequel to director Wes Anderson's new movie, "The Darjeeling Limited," which will have its American premiere at this weekend's New York Film Festival. ("Darjeeling" stars Adrien Brody and Owen Wilson along with Schwartzman as estranged brothers on a train trip across India to scatter their father's ashes.) Download "Hotel Chevalier" for free on iTunes now--according to our informant, it includes Portman's first nude scene in a movie.
2006 Awards: Best Map: Chasing Natalie
Sure, it started off as a mad dash to plot all the Toronto places and points Natalie Portman, Dustin Hoffman and other stars filming in TO this spring were spotted, but it ended up being something more--a unique travel guide to Toronto created by masses of Toronto tipsters, movie set extras, set mothers, and us. You aren't gonna find that at your local Borders Books now are you?
What did learn from this? So much, but the main point, er or the one thing Toronto folks would want us to pass on to you is this: There is more to TO than just Yorkville.
Thanks again to everyone in Toronto, who helped us keep track of sightings, filming locations, wanderings, and the best and worst of Toronto's hot spots. The folks in Toronto just got what we were trying to do straight away, which was very cool.
Here at Jaunted we may have our mash up sights set on Chasing Vancouver these days, but don't worry Natalie, we will never forget our first.
Natalie Portman is flitting about Argentina right now, enjoying the sights and causing endless speculation about her relationship with Gael Garcia Bernal. When she's not busy kicking paparazzi ass, Portman has also visited MALBA, one of Buenos Aires' premier museums. It's a good forum for contemporary Latin American art, which generally doesn't get the greatest venues. There's also a theatre which regularly hosts temporary exhibits of artsy films and biographies of Latin artists. Keep in mind the permanent collection was originally the donation of just one man, proving just how rare the works on display are. It's a good place to go bathe in the light of high culture and escape all those pesky photographers.
For the past eleven weeks, Jaunted, with a huge assist from the people who live in TO, has chased Natalie Portman and her Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium cast and crew all over the great city of Toronto. Our goal was not to stalk, but to plot. We hoped that by plotting all the different places the cast and crew filmed, partied, ate, slept, shopped, played, and dog-walked, we would be able to bring you a unique look at Toronto.
Did we accomplish our goal of creating a real-time "A-Lister's Travel Guide to Toronto"? Who knows. Have a click around our Chasing Natalie stories and map plot points and see what you think.
What we do know is this: Natalie Portman has left the building. Sure she might show up to wrap up loose ends, or film another movie, but she and the rest of her crew have wrapped.
The filming wrapped in the last couple of days, shooting some of their final scenes at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
Alas, it is time for us to do the same. In closing, here are our five favorite Chasing Natalie stories:
So will we be doing this again? Absolutely. The only question is what movie and location will we cover next. Want to help us determine our next Chasing map? Send your suggestions our way.
Oh, and the photo above shows Natalie relaxing in Paris's Jardin du Luxembourg late last week, could Paris be her next filming location? Maybe we will end up chasing Natalie to Paris. We hear the Starbucks there are very popular with celebrities, too.
First up, we want to congratulate our dearest Natalie. She was voted the "World's Sexiest Vegetarian" by PETA for 2006. Barring a Dewey defeats Truman moment over at PETA, it looks like Natalie has claim to those bragging rights. She says she hasn't eaten meat for 16 years, thought we did catch her at Mr. Tastys Drive In a couple weeks back.
So what was the world's sexiest vegetarian and her gang of merry actors up to this past weekend? Threesomes! According to our tipsters, Padme attended a screening of Wordplay at the Hot Docs film festival with Dustin Hoffman and her former beau, Gael Garcia Bernal.
Dustin was so fired up by his Sunday night threesome, he was spotted by another Jaunted tipster "humming to himself while walking a small, dark dog, with no leash" earlier that day. Definitely small, yeah. Definitely.
Oh, and that treasure trove of Toronto celebwatching, the Yorkville Starbucks--because fame smells like a no-whip toffe nut frappucino--produced yet another sighting. Jason Bateman was spotted coming out with some sort of grande latte concoction. Really, does anyone care about Jason Bateman and his coffee when Natalie is openly dating two men? OK, so openly is a stretch. And so is dating. But enjoy our map nontheless.
Send all of your sightings and Toronto info to tipsATjauntedDOTcom. We must continue our important anthropological studies in TO.
This week, our favorite movie star with the pixie haircut took us on another sweet guided tour of Toronto. Stops included AGO, rock shows, Italian food, and of course, shopping.
Apparently, music from the O.C. is cross-generational in popularity. Dustin Hoffman and Natalie were spotted at the Death Cab for Cutie/Franz Fernidand show at the Ricoh Colesium---a venue not known for quality acoustics. Our spies report Natalie bailed shortly after Death Cab took the stage. Glaswegian dancey art-punks one, sensitive indie rockers, zero.
Sotto Sotto Trattoria was the site for a cast dinner. Seafood pasta sounds considerably healthier than the grub at Mr. Tasty's Drive-In, sure, but we'll see how long Natalie keeps up the healthy living.
Meanwhile, Dustin Hoffman appears to be on a hunt for the perfect pair of boxer shorts. A couple weeks ago, our sources reported he was at Zellers buying underwear, and this week we hear he popped into the Yorkville Gap for some more. Someone get that man some clean undies, or at least show him where to find a washing machine.
The random sighting of the week comes from our ad exec contingent, who spotted Kanye West at the SoHo Met. As far as we can tell the SoHo Met only books ad grunts and rock stars We bet they really enjoy each other's company.
Send all of your sighting to us: tipsATjauntedDOTcom. We must ensure that Natalie eats properly.
