Coachella is dead! Long live Coachella!
As the first year that the desert music festival is doubled to cover to weekends, 2012 seems to be thinning the buzz. THANK GOD. Hey, we love Coachella and everything, but now that festival-goers can chose from weekends, all the social media madness from Indio, California is now spread out. Alas, there were a few things that went down these last three days to put Coachella into the national conscious (and get people psyched for 2013--jeez).
To start, H&M staged a "Kiss for a Cause" tent, which served three purposes: one, for every tweet or instagram you did using their hashtag, H&M would donate $1 to AIDS research; two, H&M used some of the photobooth puckers on their own streams, making a few good-looking folks mini-famous for the day; and three, everybody got to see what everybody else was wearing in the hot weather (answer: fringed leather vests & faux-navajo prints).

SXSW might be over but the year's music festival scene is just getting started and it includes one new fest that New Yorkers can call their own.
The initial line-up for the inaugural Catalpa Festival, which will be held on Randall’s Island on July 28th and 29th 2012, has just been announced and includes performances by The Black Keys, Snoop Dogg, TV On The Radio, City and Colour, Umphrey's McGee, The Big Pink, AraabMuzik, Felix Da Housecat and Fort Atlantic.
Last year, the IFC Crossroads House was one of our favorite hang outs in Austin, and this year they are continuing the tradition of hosting awesome music and comedy events during SXSW. The IFC Crossroads House will close out the week with 3 nights of SXSW Music Showcases starting this evening with the Boise Showcase. The six act event kicks off at 7:00 PM with Hillfolk Noir. DJ Matt Jones will also be on hand to spin tracks between sets.
On Thursday, March 15, the Paradigm Music Showcase will bring together Polica, Retar, and the Punch Brother, with DJ Traktor Skratch performing between acts.
And on Friday, March 16, the Freecreditscore.com Showcase will welcome You Can Be A Wesley, Lissy Trullie and others to close out the fest.
The IFC Crossroads House 2012 is located at 302 E 6th St Austin, TX. To see each night's complete line-up and learn more about the IFC Crossroads House, visit http://www.ifc.com/sxsw/schedule.
It's March 13 and, therefore, officially one month out from the start of the Coachella music festival in Indio, outside of Palm Springs, California.
At this point, if you haven't booked airfare/hotel/rideshare/campsite/etc, it's not going to be easy or cheap to figure out your weekend...or weekends. You see, this will be the first year that Coachella splits into two consecutive weekends, offering the same experience at both but allowing for double the attendance in total.
While regular festival passes are long SOLD OUT, it does look as though there's one work-around to score tickets to the first weekend of fun. Buy the Lake Eldorado camping package, and it comes with General Admission to Coachella. But then ya gotta camp, and the only option left is a 4-person tent (and 4 festival passes) for $2,975.
Open your iCal and mark this down. All this week, we'll be highlighting events at Austin's SxSW festival. So if you're there, you're informed. And if you're not...well, next year?
Red Bull Thre3style will return to Austin, TX this week for a special SXSW showcase. DJ Z-Trip will once again headline with a surprise guest (last year LL Cool J joined him on stage), along with The Crystal Method, Erykah Badu, DJ Jazzy Jeff (yes, he's still around), Satsik, Dan The Automator, DJ Hedspin, Bog Once and Shortkut.
The Red Bull Thre3style will take place Saturday, March 17 at 8th and Trinity in Austin. Gates open at 7 pm, show starts at 8. There is no badge necessary; the event is completely free and open to the public.
The legendary restaurant ratings guide Zagat Survey has just released their Guide to the Best of SXSW Dining. The guide, which can be viewed online for free, will help festival-goers find the best food spots in Austin, from BBQ joints to food trucks.
The complete Texas Zagat Survey will be released in March, but they decided to make these Austin reviews available now so fest attendees can start planning.

You, Robert Johnson’s ghost, and some live blues artists. Just what the doctor ordered.
Last time we were down in the Mississippi Delta we were getting stuck in on local radio, but now here’s a reason to go back down there (and it’s not even related to The Help).
This year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of father of the blues Robert Johnson; and to mark it, next weekend, the people of Greenwood are throwing a blues festival. Not only that, but it’s a festival right in the cottonfields next to where Johnson is purportedly buried.
The King of the Delta Blues 100th Anniversary Remembrance Festival takes place October 15-16 on Money Road, outside Greenwood and by the premises of the fabulous WABG radio station. The lineup includes Rory Block, Dr Feelgood Potts, Maria Muldaur and Bobby Rush, and there will be tributes to blues artists who died this year, like Honey Boy Edwards, Pinetop Perkins and Mississippi Slim.

The Big Chill, Lovebox, Bestival, Field Day: there's no shortage of festivals in the U.K. this summer, most of which are music-centric and attract hordes of dirty campers eager to slosh around in their Wellies à la Kate Moss. Creeping up in number and quality are food festivals, whose focus is on celebrating the best of regional cuisine and proving that there's much more to British cooking than the country's middling reputation suggests.

While Lollapalooza has become a destination for music fans—who this year will trek out to Chicago this August 5 to 7 to see Eminem, Coldplay, Muse and the Foo Fighters for the 20th annual festival—it's also become an unlikely attraction for foodies.
Dubbed Chow Town, the food-fest-within-the-music-fest is returning for a second helping. Once again, MasterChef's Graham Elliot will curate the food offerings for Lolla and will bring more than 30 vendors to the three-day concert.

We're of two minds about Coachella, which is terribly convenient since there will be two Coachella festivals in 2012. Greatwe can spend the first one enjoying the music and the scene, and follow it by spending the second one hating on it and making snide remarks about the Urban Outfitters-wearing masses passed out next to half-spun Dreamcatchers. Two Coachella fests means more options for festivalgoers, with more money for musicians and the event's company, but will it be a good idea in practice?
Coachella has come to be known as the Woodstock of the Apple generation, even though more and more corporations have carved out a little piece for themselves in recent years (example: H&M has a huge tent with entire collection previews). A single festival means one focus, one big blowout, one long weekend of overpriced hotel rooms or house rental and hopefully only one vacation day requested off at work to attend.
It seems like only yesterday that South by Southwest took over Austin, but already it's time to start prepping for Austin City Limits. The 10th anniversary music festival is set to hit Zilker Park September 16 to 18, but single-day tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. CST.
All of the three-day passes have sold out, so this is your only opportunity to snag tickets to see such acts Stevie Wonder, Arcade Fire, Kanye West—is there an event that this guy doesn't perform?—Coldplay, My Morning Jacket, Cee Lo, Fleet Foxes, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Nas and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Bright Eyes, Empire of the Sun, Cut Copy, Santigold and Social Distortion.
