Brad Pitt's Tourism Stimulus Plan Takes Effect In Spain
After New Orleans welcomed him with open arms, Super World Traveler Brad Pitt has set his sights on drawing tourists to another little-visited town in northern Spain. Only 860,998 cities left before tourism is saved!
The city of Avilés is in the process of building a cultural center dedicated to Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, responsible for designing the city of Brasilia and contributing to the UN Headquarters design. For the northern region of Asturias, best known as the area of Catholic reconquest of Spain from the Moors, the Centro Niemeyer will attract touring theatre productions, cultural exhibits and famous authors to the city once it opens in 2010.

Commune With Honest Abe in California
This year marks the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, a fact you might have been made aware of in the flurry of pre-Inauguration coverage but is worth mentioning again in light of the Library of Congress's exhibition "With Malice Toward None." Opening on Lincoln's birthday in Washington this year, the groundbreaking collection moves west to Sacramento.
Opening at the California Museum June 24, "With Malice Toward None," taking its title from Lincoln's second inaugural address (given less than a month before his assassination) includes personal documents including the Bible he (and Barack Obama) were sworn in on, old school books and his crib notes from the Lincoln-Douglas debates which first introduced him as a political up-and-comer.

Dinosaurs, Darwin, and Bighorn Rams: An Afternoon at New Haven's Peabody Museum
We hadn't been out of the city in a while, so last Sunday we bundled up and headed to Grand Central, where we caught a Metro North train to New Haven, Connecticut. Arriving at around noon, we met our friends and proceeded directly to Yale University's Peabody Museum of Natural History, a mid-sized, hassle-free alternative to New York's gargantuan American Museum of Natural History.

The Da Kidman Code
Hey, as long as we're in town... Nicole Kidman has been here, there and everywhere promoting her new movie "Australia," the Baz Luhrmann paean to her home country of Down Under. When in Rome, she took an afternoon off to check out the Vatican Museums with husband Keith Urban, though we assume daughter Sunday stayed home.
The Vatican Museums incorporate Egyptian, Etruscan and Assyrian artifacts along with sacred objects and pieces from early Christian churches. Their site badly needs to be updated, but our interest is piqued -- and not just because it's where the stars go.
