Mistral Air Passenger Has Holy Water Taken
August 30, 2007 at 10:30 AM | 0 Comments

How ridiculous is airport security these days? Brand-new pilgrimage-to-holy-shrines Mistral Air a passenger had her holy water snatched on the way from Lourdes, France back to Rome.
An airport official said the security screeners were just doing their jobs:
All passengers are obliged to respect the rules and not go over the quantities (of liquid) permitted
Fair enough. Even the passenger in question agreed that she wasn't too bothered:
They did well, and that's that. We need to be super respectful of the law because it's not about me or pilgrims. But if I had been a fake pilgrim, who would take responsibility?
We're just sorry that when we finally get a chance to check out Mistral, they'll no longer be handing out the Virgin Mary-shaped bottles of holy water as part of the pre-flight ritual.

Hot Vatican Airlines Photos

Bet that is a headline you never thought you would read. Thanks to CNN we finally got a peek inside the new Vatican Airlines charter flights, which are operated by Italy's mostly cargo airline Mistral. What struck us was not the blue and yellow Vatican colors, or the numerous pilgrimage bound priests on board -- but how about those flight attendants? They do not look, or dress like nuns, do they?
While the flight attendants and the aircraft are all decked out in Vatican gold and blue, these flight attendants struck us as more Marquis Jet than pious pilots. Though in reality, these attendants are just regular Mistral workers who tend to look just a touch out of place on a plane full of priests and devout catholics -- in other words don't read too much into it they are not going to be giving in-flight massages.
The remainder of the airline details are just as you would expect -- bible quotes on headrests, no in-flight movies, and daily service to pilgrimage sites throughout the world.
Mistral is letting the Vatican use one of their mail delivery planes for this new charter service, which means pilgrims by day, and delivering Italy's post at night. The important biproduct of the above arrangement? Ticket prices stay 10% lower than commercial airlines serving similar destinations.

If you've been hoping for a new European low cost carrier, your prayers have been answered look no further. A new Vatican-owned airline--partnered with Italy's Mistral Air--made its first flight today, ferrying church VIPs from Rome to Lourdes, France.
While we imagine the faithful are thrilled with the new airline, Ryanair, which will face some stiff new competition on routes, didn't think too much of the inagural flight:
Ryanair already performs miracles that even the Pope's boss can't rival, by delivering pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela for the heavenly price of €10.
