All week we've been chasing Michigan, dropping in on film sets here and there in the Wolverine State.

Now it's time to script our own Miss or Mr. Lonelyhearts picture: A stranger comes to town to woo a disenchanted local and in the process, becomes infatuated with Great Lakes livin'...

Missed Connections in Cleveland: The Paul Newman Memorial Edition

Before the late, great Paul Newman was an outlaw, an eater of multiple eggs or a Connecticut salad guy, he was a Shaker Heights son of a sporting-goods store owner, half Jewish and half Catholic but all dramatics (starting with a school play role at age 7).

In honor and tribute to Newman and in particular his fifty-year marriage to actress Joanne Woodward, we hope to inspire a few great pairs with this week's hot spots:

For a while there, it looked like John McCain was going to break his date with Barack Obama at Ole Miss tonight. But you can't break a date that you don't have!

Since there's nothing doing in the Northern Mississippi missed connections (go look, we'll wait!), suspend your break from dating and find a worthy opponent at one of these hot spots in the nearest big city, Memphis, Tennessee:

Potential First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama visited Paula Deen's studio in Norfolk, Virginia this week to tape an appearance on the Southern cooking show. Deen is originally from Savannah, but Virginia is still very much a swing state, which makes it already one of the most traveled states by both campaigns.

If you're in town on (political?) business, do a little grassroots outreach at one of our hot spots:

Missed Connections in Montana: John Irving Edition

Before he made his triumphal entrance into the Democratic National Convention, Barack Obama did a tour of Montana. But the city of Missoula got even more attention this week for being the site of a bizarre bear-bike hit-and-run incident.

This story has a happy ending because the bicyclist, middle-school science teacher Jim Litz, was picked up by his wife who happened to drive by the crash site. That's so romantic!

When we get married, we hope our spouses will rescue us from that moment when the bike hits the bear. Find that kind of collaborator at one of our hot spots:

To fans of the New England Patriots, a new season means a new chance to go undefeated and make Eli Manning's Boy Scout face go far, far away. For us, it's an opportunity to see if Foxboro retailers' bid to liven up the town around Gillette Stadium actually works.

The regular-season home opener for the Pats is Sunday. Since Patriot Place hasn't opened yet, if you hit our hot spots now maybe you won't need glove warmers--'cause you'll be holding hands with someone who isn't Pat Patriot!

OK, so the romantic weepie starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling was pushed on us when we were terribly ill and couldn't fight back. But even if you believe it's a load of Hollywood hooey, the reunion of the movie's It Couple can make you believe, unlike Gena Rowlands, that love will find you again.

And with the Toronto Film Festival just a few weeks away, don't you want to be seduced in the dark?
