Chasing Michigan: Christina Ricci Helps the Local Economy

As we mentioned in our first Chasing Michigan post, Christina Ricci has been filming "All's Faire in Love" at the Michigan Ren Fest in Holly, Michigan.
Last week, Christina was spotted buying cosmetics for the cast and crew at LUSH Cosmetics in Troy. According to the Detroit Free Press, she bought four gifts including LUSH's Hello Gorgeous. Gifts for the wrap party perhaps? From what we hear filming is just about complete.

Chasing Michigan: Cherry Pickin' in Kalamazoo

Ask and you shall receive. Last week, we were wishing for a few new projects to discuss and it looks like the movie Gods have answered our prayers. Tomorrow, the indie film "Cherry" begins filming on the campus of Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Chasing Michigan: Sean Astin, Michael Vartan and David Cross are Still "Demoted"

We've had more "Demoted" sightings this week. The cast, including Sean Astin, Michael Vartan and David Cross, was caught filming at the Southfield Public Library. The library's board room became the office of Reilly Auto Parts, where all three of the stars' characters work.

Movies aren't the only draw for celebs in Michigan these days. Michigan's status as swing state in this year's election has brought the stars out for Barack Obama.
Since September, Adrien Brody, Carole King, Bruce Springsteen and, as we mentioned last week, Sean Astin have all been speaking on college campuses and at rallies telling residents why they think Obama is the right choice for president.

There's more than just movies filming in Michigan these days. Last week the crew of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" was in Holt, Michigan where they rebuilt Arlene Nickless' 148 year old farm house.
Ty Pennington and crew worked in Holt all week before the big reveal on Friday when they moved that bus and gave the whole town a first look at the Nickless' new home.

Chasing Michigan: The Stars Are Shining in Milford

Last weekend Sean Astin was touring college campuses stumping for Obama, but today the "Lord of the Rings" star is back to work at his day job.
Astin, along with co-stars Michael Vartan and David Cross, is filming scenes for the upcoming comedy "Demoted." The movie is about two men who tease a fellow employee and are demoted to the secretarial pool after that co-worker is promoted to their boss.

There have been several Kim Cattrall sightings reported in Michigan where she has been shooting the new HBO pilot, "Miss January" since the beginning of September.
In the show her character, a retired porn star, is tracked down by a young man who is infatuated with her. Filming has taken place around the state in several small communities including West Bloomfield, Livonia, and most recently, Romulus.

Though Sean Astin is filming "Demoted" in Michigan this month, he's hoping Barack Obama gets promoted to President on November 4.
According to The Livingston Daily, the actor took time out on Saturday to speak to a group of Obama volunteers in Livingston County.

Lights, Camera... Michigan? That's right, thanks to a new incentives program from the Michigan Film Office, the state is experiencing a boom in filming with more than 60 movies on the shooting schedule for this year alone, up from just three last year. Looks like Michigan might just be Hollywood Midwest.
