Michael Phelps Should Probably Not Go To Vegas Anymore Either

February 11, 2009 at 8:49 AM | by | ()

Just when we thought it was okay to get angry at the octuplet mom instead, more details about Olympian Michael Phelps' trip to South Carolina. Now we know not only has the swimming champ enjoyed some wacky tobaccy, he is a horrible gambler.

At the same University of South Carolina party where he was snapped breathing in the questionable fumes, Phelpsie put down $2,000 on a beer-pong game... and lost. Whether these two events are related is not clear, but let's hope he didn't meet his Las Vegas-based girlfriend by trying to impress her at the tables.

Frankly, if all the pot-smokers we know lost their jobs, it would have a greater effect on our circle than the recession has so far. But we're fascinated by the idea that, without the bong hits, Phelps might have won every single event at the Beijing Olympics -- singlehandedly! The Australia national swimming program should be sending him special brownies every day from here on out.

On the other hand, if any enterprising casino decides to add a few beer-pong tables, we will happily show up and get killed by the pros, whoever they are.

Where is Michael Phelps' Bong?

February 2, 2009 at 8:58 AM | by | ()

In case you were too involved with your seven-layer dip last night and missed the news, the ubiquitous British tabloids caught Michael Phelps smoking the pot. Apparently he was rocking out at a house party at the University of South Carolina in November, when someone snapped a pic of him using a marijuana smoking device.

Britney's Working Holiday

December 1, 2008 at 8:45 AM | by | ()

For Britney Spears, this weekend brought all work and no play. While her documentary "For The Record" was showing in the US, Spears performed on Britain's popular TV show "X Factor" (creators of Leona Lewis) and at the Bambi Awards where she was given the Best International Pop Star award.

So what were our other favorite stars up to this weekend? The Cruises and Beckhams took New York together even though Katie Holmes had to work all weekend--er, perform in "All My Sons." Miley Cyrus hit the Big Apple as well, although we hope she's not moving here! Divorced stars Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon broke bread together with their kids for the holiday, while Alex Rodriguez left his kids in New York while he took in a Madonna concert in Miami. Demi, Ashton and Bruce also celebrated together, and we know they're all friends, but that's kind of creepy.

Will Smith took his crew to Hawaii and Michael Phelps took his new girlfriend, a waitress in Vegas, home to Maryland to meet Mom. And Eva Longoria set tongues wagging when she attended a wedding by herself. Have we all had enough vacation yet?

September 22, 2008 at 8:30 AM | by | ()

Has it been 15 minutes yet? Mega-Olympian Michael Phelps appears in a new commercial for CitationShares touting the private jet's absence of security. Wait, that's a good thing?

The fractional jet provider owned by Cessna boasts, besides comfortable service, the dream of avoiding the indignities of airport security. For anyone trying to carry large amounts of metal around, it's a plus! In Citation's other ad, after the jump, Phelps provides a little special in-flight entertainment.

Foxy Swimmer Travel: "Phelpstival" Finally Official

September 9, 2008 at 12:35 PM | by | ()

Alright Phelps phanatics. If you didn't get a chance to play grab ass in Vegas with the gold medal god, you'll have another chance in Baltimore on October 4.

After a miscue in August, the Phelpstival is a go, and it starts with a "Parade of Gold" at 3 pm through Towson, Maryland, the suburb that the swimmer calls home. At 7 pm, a "Star-Spangled Salute" will be held at Fort McHenry.

One assumes the party won't stop just because it's getting late. While we can't guarantee a Phelps appearance, Max's Taphouse does have the biggest selection of beer in the city.

Baltimore "Phelpstival" Schedule Announced

Where: 69 Cedar Ave. [map], Towson, MD, United States
August 25, 2008 at 12:00 PM | by | ()

Now that the Olympics are over, it's time for Baltimore to cash in on Michael Phelps' most recent gold medals. The Phelpstival--that we heard about last week--will start at 9 am on September 11 in the suburb of Towson, Maryland.

The party kicks off at Phelps' high school, where Cedar Avenue will be renamed in his honor. A parade will then march to the courthouse where the world record holder will receive a key to Baltimore County.

Here's hoping the Baltimore tourism board doesn't make him do a lap in a hotel pool.

Update: Don't believe everything you read at Baltimore.org! Turns out the tourism board posted info about 2004's Phelpstival on its official website before hyping the news on Twitter. Only later did officials realize that they'd made a mistake. When the real Phelpstival is announced, we'll let you know--as long as the tourism peeps give us the correct date!

Baltimore Tourism Wants a Piece of Michael Phelps

August 19, 2008 at 1:30 PM | by | ()

Who doesn't want to siphon off a bit of that Michael Phelps glory these days? Baltimore, the record-smashing swimmer's hometown, is hoping to milk his eight-medal Olympics for as much tourism as the city can stand. The Baltimore Area CVA has even set up a specific URL for Phelps phanatics: Baltimore.org/phelps.

So far, the page is pretty much blank, with just a vague promise of more to come:

Check back to Baltimore.org for information on Phelps' Welcome Home Celebration.

Hopefully the party doesn't involve any lusty fans getting ill-advised tattoos!
