Shirtlessness Travel: Matthew McConaughey's Surf Epic Disappears Before We Can See It
September 18, 2008 at 8:45 AM | 2 Comments
Our invites to the press screening must have gotten lost in the mail: "Surfer Dude," the long-awaited psychedelic comedy starring Matthew McConaughey as, well, a surfer dude, has vamoosed from theaters already after playing on just 69 screens and pocketing $36,000.
According to Entertainment Weekly, "Dude" couldn't get distribution except from a straight-to-DVD outlet that agreed to a brief, ad-less appearance in theaters. Residents of Austin, home of the actor's alma mater, had the best chance of seeing the flick; the rest of us will have to wait until it hits stores in December. But wait! Where are we going to see Matt shirtless until then?!

Sports Fans Travel: Matthew McConaughey Revises No-Shirt Policy for UT
September 3, 2008 at 8:45 AM | 0 Comments
Ladies and gentlemen: From now on Matthew McConaughey will wear your puny mortal shirts, but only if they bear the mark of the sacred Longhorn. The man brought girlfriend Camila Alves and son Levi to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin to cheer on his alma mater, the University of Texas.
It's cute how thrilled Camila looks to be teaching baby Levi the "Hook 'em Horns." Maybe later on in the season Matt can commiserate with fellow UT alums Wes Anderson, Roger Clemens and Jenna Bush about how he can never get the fam to a game.

Breaking: Matthew McConaughey Surfs with Shirt on
July 23, 2008 at 11:30 AM | 2 Comments
We were shocked--shocked--to see Matthew McConaughey, Our Lord Of Perpetual Bare-Chestedness, with a covered torso on a recent surfing trip in Malibu. The famously shirtless new dad covered up with a neoprene top that he paired with board shorts in a fashion move that probably puzzled the paparazzi out of harassing him.
Maybe this is just a promo shoot for his upcoming movie "Surfer Dude," but if Matt really wanted to rip up some waves he'd check out our Honky Tonk Surf Towns map. Watch the trailer for this year's most pointless movie--featuring McConaughey, naturally shirtless--after the jump.

Matthew McConaughey: No Photos Unless I'm Shirtless

The perennially half-naked Matthew McConaughey just shot a cologne ad for Dolce & Gabbana's The One, where he is chased by crazy paparazzi--but he saves his million-dollar smile for the moment when he takes off his shirt. Is he parodying himself knowingly or are D&G's marketing gurus regular readers of US Weekly?
Catch McConaughey shirtless in his latest movie, the highest-opening-of-the-weekend romantic comedy "Fool's Gold," as well as (we're guessing) upcoming releases "Surfer Dude" and "Tropic Thunder." Call us when he makes a North Pole movie and somehow manages to strip down. Yawn.

A Star's Life: Last-Minute Trip to Hawaii, Check!

Yeah, being a celebrity is all work and no play... Just ask Matthew McConaughey, who is stepping up to star in Ben Stiller's newest movie "Tropic Thunder" currently shooting on the island of Kauai. McConaughey replaces fellow Texan and blond Owen Wilson, whose hospitalization at the end of last month forced him to pull out of the picture. Matt joins Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Steve Coogan and Nick Nolte to play actors forced to fight the war they're creating on film.
But you can catch Owen later this month, making his own journey on film in "The Darjeeling Limited", costarring Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman as siblings on an Indian train trip.

Matthew McConaughey Parties Like It's 1999 in Queensland
November 8, 2006 at 9:05 AM | 0 Comments

We know, we know, it's so hard to concentrate this morning what with the earth-shattering news that Britney Spears and Kevin Federline are divorcing.
If you can bear it, HotelChatter has the skinny on the couple's ill-fated trip to Manhattan where Britney holed up at the swank Regency on Park Ave while K-Fed was sent packing to a DoubleTree in Times Square.
Ok enough, the details are just ripping our hearts apart. We really thought they were gonna make it. So to set your mind at ease, we are happy to inform you that Matthew McConaughey is back to his old crazy party habits, this time in Queensland, Australia, where he's filming a new movie, "Fool's Gold" with Kate Hudson.
Last night he was spotted celebrating at Iron Bar in Port Douglas with a group of locals. Matt went wild, shouting & dancing to the tunes of a local band playing at the bar. Dressed in army pants, a t-shirt & thongs, Matt shouted just after midnight: "It's my birthday! I just turned 37!" He also treated the locals to a round of drinks.
For a minute, we almost panicked. "Thongs?" Not that we wouldn't put that past ole' Matty, but we then realized it was just the Aussie term for flip-flops.
Still, in a celeb world where so much has gone wrong (Nicole and Paris friends again, Colin Farrell and Courtney Love sober, Tom Cruise procreating), it's nice to see a touch of the way things used to be. All he needed was some naked bongo playing time to put us truly at ease.
