BART Cards: Good For More Than Just BARTing

September 27, 2006 at 9:40 AM | 0 Comments

Our favorite use for the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is a quick 'n' cheap ride over to Mod Lang Records in El Cerrito after a less than comfortable transcontinental flight into Oakland. After this tip from Metroblogging San Francisco, we now know that our pedestrian desires are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to wringing the BART for all it's worth.

According to Metroblogger violet blue, used BART cards are of the perfect "amount of firmness, thickness, slip and strength" for picking a garden variety combination lock. You know, the kind your ex keeps on his/her bike that you might or might not want to steal and sell at the flea market, or the kind you keep on the gym locker you last saw 2 months ago, etc. It only takes a little determination to turn a day's worth of transportation into the legal or illegal activity of your choice.

Would this work with a New York Metrocard? A Boston T card? Or do those babies have pre-destined naughty alter-egos of their own?

New York City freaks out over transit strike

December 16, 2005 at 8:04 AM | 0 Comments

As New York City has a collective nervous breakdown over the transit strikes, we'd just like to put in our two cents: a transit strike in the Big Apple is illegal. (You know, just in case the head of the Transport Workers Union reads our fair site.) Sure, we'd like to go on strike ourselves every time, say, our boss doesn't give us that extra salary or vacation we deserve...but we don't. Why? Because it's not the 1970's. And because we're not French. Things to ponder. Gothamist has the blow by blow.
