Design an AirAsia Plane to Win a Trip to Airbus HQ

Where: Malaysia

Here's another chance to haul out those giant markers and brush up on your airplane designing skills. The scarlet low-cost airline, AirAsia, is giving fans a chance to paint one of seven new aircraft. And while it's super cool to be able to walk through an airport and say, "see that plane, I designed that!," the grand prize is even better than just having your art taking to the skies.

The Asian LCC is calling on its most creative passengers to come up with a new livery for its newest Airbus A330s. Each of the seven birds are already named and the paint job should reflect that theme, but with names like XKLusive, Xiao Long Bao, Xeoul Mate, Xiaolin Spirit, Xcintillating PhoeniX, Harmonious DiverXity, Xakura Blossom, the creativity will be free flowing. The winner of the best livery will not only have their design on the side of a plane, but be flown to the Airbus factory in France to see where these babies are born.

An Airplane with Tribal Tattoos: Air Pacific Unveils New Look as Fiji Airways

Where: Fiji

Back in August, we touched on the news that Air Pacific is getting back to their roots and rebranding the airline to Fiji Airways. After the change of ownership, the national identity will shine through on the new carrier a fact just proved by this week's sneak peak into what the planes and cabins will look like when the entire changeover is complete later in 2013.

Starting with the planes doing the heavy lifting, the airline has taken the traditional Fijian imagery across the entire fleet. Designed to be a 'Flying Ambassador' for the island nation, the Fiji influence plays a prominent role. Three "Masi," or native design motifs, will be a feature of the livery, designed to represent the welcoming nature of Fiji.

For those on the ground, a bold FIJI logo on the belly of the plane plus the tribal wrap around the engines will make plane-spotting a whole lot easier.

Something is just 'not right' with this flight attendant

If you're on your way to cross the equator in hopes to see the actual set of the highly acclaimed movie, you might just be able to get in the "middle-earth mood" a little easier with Air New Zealand's newest plans to promote the heck out the new movie and its sequel.

The Kiwi airline has repainted some long-haul planes with landscapes and characters pulled from the set of the film. Keeping with a travel theme, a Boeing 777-300 gets a new paint job for first release, 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' and then a 777-200 gets decorated for 'The Hobbit: There And Back Again'. The planes will be flying from the island nation to both the US and the UK.
