Legoland to Build Itself a New Water Park for Summer 2012

December 6, 2011 at 8:44 AM | by | Comments (0)

Legoland in Florida still has its new theme park smell, but it’s already time to upgrade. The Lego bricks aren’t looking forward to the hot and humid summers, so they’re adding a brand new water park. Officials had mentioned this during the park’s October debut, but now we know that’s it’s all on scheduled and ready to arrive in time for the 2012 summer season.

Obviously there will plenty of spots to splish and splash for the kiddos, and as with the rest of the park it’s going to be tailored to the likes of loves of little ones. Some of the attractions planned for the new waterpark include a Lego Wave Pool, along with something they’re calling Twin Chasers—where you and a buddy twist and turn through intertwined tube tracks.

Legoland Florida Puts the Pieces Together for an Opening Date of October 15

June 30, 2011 at 8:42 AM | by | Comments (0)

Get your little plastic pieces ready, as it's finally almost time to hit new world's newest Legoland just outside of Orlando. It's not just any old land dedicated to Legos either, as this place is going to be the biggest—as in 150 acres—Legoland in the world. As you might remember the place was kind of Cypress Gardens for many many years, but on October 15 it will be officially transformed into a shrine of all things Lego.

It's park number five around the world for the Lego empire, as there's already a park in California along with options in Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom. In total there's going to be around 50 new rides, shows, and attractions, so there will be more to see than just crazy-nuts Lego creations. Although, we're pretty sure there's going to plenty of those too.

The Plastic Pieces are on Their Way to Malaysia for Asia's First Legoland

Where: Malaysia
March 1, 2011 at 10:16 AM | by | Comment (1)

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of all things Lego to Florida, but now it seems like we might want to turn our attention elsewhere around the globe. The plastic pieces are on the move, and it looks like Malaysia might be welcoming the first Legoland in Asia sometime in 2012.

Apparently bulldozers have already been hard at work clearing around 75 acres or so for the new park, and its 40 plus rides and attractions that will make up the new Legoland Malaysia. This will be the sixth land devoted to Legos worldwide, so if you’ve already been to the other five, you better start planning your trip to hit up the latest and the greatest. There’s over 30 million plastic pieces to assemble, so you’ve still got a little bit of time to find a decent flight.

Opening Day is a Year Away, But Florida's Legoland is Already Selling Tickets

November 3, 2010 at 8:43 AM | by | Comments (0)

Opening day is still like at least a year away, but the newest Legoland is already trying to build a little bit of buzz in Florida.

Last week, park officials busted out the artist renderings and other pretty pictures for some of the new attractions. One of the main attractions that caught our eye might just make Cinderella jealous, as the park will have its very own castle within the Castle Hill section of the park. No princesses inside the castle though, as there’s going to be a dragon-themed coaster working its way in and out of the toy fortress.

Legoland Reveals the Details Regarding Its New Florida Park

July 16, 2010 at 9:02 AM | by | Comment (1)

At the beginning of the year, we discovered the fate of one of the country’s longest running theme parks. Cypress Gardens in central Florida would be transformed into Legoland, and many were concerned about what would happen to the Southern belles, water ski shows, and all the pretty flowers. Well this week the suits at Legoland fired up a PowerPoint presentation and revealed a bunch of the featured attractions planned for the new park.

It’s no surprise that there will be tons of Lego displays throughout the park, from dinosaurs to castles, but there will be plenty of rides as well. The Land of Adventure has a wooden roller coaster planned, and we can only hope that the dinosaur-themed ride will be for big kids as well. In total there will be over 50 rides, shows, and attractions as well as at least a thousand of the oversized Lego displays.

Watch Out, Disney! Legoland Is Coming to Central Florida

January 21, 2010 at 2:20 PM | by | Comments (0)

Cypress Gardens was Florida’s theme park hotspot before Mickey and company rolled into the state during the 1970s. Focusing on its gardens and water ski shows the park did its best to stay in business throughout some tough years. However, it appears now that 2009 was the last year for Cypress Gardens in its previous format.

Last week, Merlin Entertainments Group bought the rights to the park. They didn’t disclose pricing, but it probably was enough money to warrant one of those oversized checks. The Merlin group owns Legoland in California, and they also operate a few theme parks in Europe. We immediately were hoping that the park would get a Lego makeover, but it had been pretty quiet until yesterday.

Heidi Klum Does It For The Kids

November 24, 2008 at 8:50 AM | by | Comments (0)

Too much vacation! Heidi Klum's daughter Leni flops on the ground at Legoland in classic kid meltdown mode. But come on, you loved Legos yesterday!

Klum and her mom took her three kids to the Southern California amusement park over the weekend for 2-year-old Johan's birthday. While not as well known as the nearby Disneyland, Legoland is actually much better for kids because it's smaller--and for parents because compared to the house of Walt, the shopping opportunities are confined to one area. Plus, we're suckers for miniature cities.

Calling All AFOLs: Lego Party This Weekend

Where: 8661 Leesburg Pike, Washington, DC, United States
August 29, 2008 at 12:00 PM | by | Comment (1)

Speaking of Legos...

If you're in the Washington, DC area this weekend, you're in luck, because there's a massive Lego fair organized just for AFOLs like you. (That's Adult Fans of Lego, to the uninformed.) Children are allowed, but only if they're in the company of adults.

Brickfair is actually not affiliated with the LEGO company, but is organized by Wamalug, the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Lego Users Group. (This town has an acronym for everything.)

Theme Parks Travel: Swimming with the Fishies

Where: 1 Legoland Dr. [map], Carlsbad, CA, United States
July 29, 2008 at 10:35 AM | by | Comments (0)

On August 11, the newest theme park in the Legoland empire is set to throw open its doors in Carlsbad, California. The Sea Life Aquarium promises even more masterpieces of Lego engineering. The 36,000 square-foot aquarium will offer fun in the form of play zones, marine exhibits and, of course, Lego sculptures.

Royalty abounds at the park, as it will feature its own seahorse kingdom in addition to a 360-degree ring of stingrays. The headlining attraction will certainly be the 175,000-gallon ocean display that recreates the Lost City of Atlantis with a 10-foot statue of Poseidon, a seven-foot Lego submarine and 72 more models that share their home with live fish and sharks.

The new park does require a separate admission from the original Legoland across the way; this one is $19. It's certainly a welcome addition to the Southern California amusement park lineup--even though it offers a tribute to plastic pieces instead of plastic ears.

Legoland Coming to Dubai

May 7, 2008 at 12:05 PM | by | Comment (1)

Oh, hell yes. Legoland is coming to Dubai. Now we finally have a reason to go!

Given that recent developments include bridges and a replica of a French city, it's about time for something more appealing to the kids--and those of us who act like kids. The new park, scheduled to open by 2011, will have just about everything you want:

Similar to the existing four Legoland Parks at Billund, Denmark; Germany; Windsor and California, Legoland Dubailand [will feature] more than 40 interactive...kid-powered rides, cool building challenges, spectacular Lego models, interactive attractions, family-friendly coasters and shows.

Now the only drama is figuring out how you'll get your kids to behave on the long-haul to Dubai. Lucikly, mom-travel expert Wendy Perrin has some tips on that.
