Delta, American, and Southwest Star in This Week's New Routes News

May 31, 2013 at 8:43 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· American Airlines:
Unfortunately things are starting up a little too late for the summer season, but we’re still excited to hear about American Airlines new plans for a new route. American Airlines is getting ready to link Miami with Milan, as the plan is to start flying back and forth beginning on November 21.

Tickets will go on sale later this weekend, so feel free to break out those credit card digits. The flights—operated by some Boeing 767-300ERs—will leave Florida at around 6pm local time, and the flights will arrive in Italy at around 9:30am local time the following day.

· LOT:
The time has come for LOT Polish Airlines to take one of their Boeing 787 Dreamliners out for a spin. They’re back at Chicago-O’Hare, as they’ll be flying all the way over to Warsaw beginning on June 5. In fact they’re actually running a pair of first flights.

The true inaugural is set to depart at around 5:30pm—that’s flight number 2—and then later that evening there will be a second 787 flight—that one is flight number 4. These will be the first 787 flights heading to or from Chicago-O’Hare, so it’s also a big deal for airport officials. Fun times if you can score a seat on either one of these flights, or any flight later this summer.

JetBlue, Virgin America and Air France Lead This Week's New Route News

April 26, 2013 at 8:28 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· JetBlue:
The government seals and stamps are still pending, but if all goes according to plan JetBlue will be adding some new options sooner than later. They’re looking to head from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport down to Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru. Daily flights are scheduled to start on November 21, and if you act quickly you might be able to score a one-way seat for as low as $139. Adding Lima to their map will be destination number 81 for JetBlue, and it’s their fourth destination down in South America.

· LOT:
In case you haven’t heard the good news it’s finally time for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to head back into the skies. The battery problems have been reviewed and approved, and it’s finally time for the planes to do what they do best—fly. Plenty of airlines are working to shift their schedules to bring back the new planes, and one of them is LOT Polish Airlines. It sounds like June 5 is when they’ll bring back the 787 service between Chicago and Warsaw, and shortly after that they’ll start to link Poland with Toronto as well.

Where: Poland

A LOT Dreamliner on the Boeing factory line

At this point we should probably start telling you who doesn’t have a Boeing 787, as Dreamliner deliveries have really picked up over the last few months. This time Europe is getting in on the fun, as the first carrier on the continent accepts Boeing’s new bird. We mentioned how pumped they were to get their new plane, and now the time has finally arrived for LOT Polish Airlines to receive their very own 787.

Yesterday was the big day for the airline, as plenty of suits, officials, and other head honchos were on hand over in Warsaw, Poland to welcome the plane to the hangar. Obviously they need to get down to business, so that’s next on the new airplane to-do list. Now that the 787 has arrived over in Europe it sounds like they’ll be practicing throughout December on some short-haul routes. After that it will likely transition into their service between Warsaw and Chicago, and eventually Dreamliners will make their way onto other long-haul options to New York and Toronto.

A LOT Dreamliner on the Boeing factory line

It might be a little early to nominate an airline for a Jaunty award, but we’ve got our eyes on LOT Polish Airlines. Sure they’ve been flying between Poland and the rest of the world for decades, but it seems that they’ve got their eye on the future. This is especially the case when you consider some of the planes that they have on order and where they’re planning to utilize them.

The airline has plenty of those shiny new Boeing 787s on order, and if things remain on schedule—and we’re thinking that they will—the first deliveries should happen this November. That makes LOT the first carrier in Europe with the Dreamliner, and they’re understandably pretty eager to brag about it.

Boeing's 787 Dreamliner: Who's Got It and Who Desperately Wants It

September 7, 2012 at 3:49 PM | by | Comments (0)

As we type this very sentence, Air India flies at cruising altitude on the long journey that will take their first Boeing 787 Dreamliner all the way from South Carolina to New Delhi.

And yet it seems like only yesterday we were perched atop the Future of Flight Center in Everett, WA, in the early morning cold and mist, as the absolute very first Dreamliner was delivered, to Japanese carrier ANA. In fairness it's been a solid year since then and while five airlines now boast Boeing 787s in their fleets, there's a whole slew more champing at the bit to get their mitts on the sleek plane.

Let's review who's got it and who wants it, shall we?

Chicago's Huge Polish Population Attracts a 787 Dreamliner Route

Where: Poland
April 6, 2012 at 11:28 AM | by | Comments (0)

We already know about Japan Airlines' plans to bring their newest toy, a Boeing 787, to Boston from Tokyo-Narita. Later in the year, Houston, San Diego, Seattle and San Jose will also get some Dreamliner love, but what about the middle of the country? In an exciting announcement for the midwest, LOT Polish will make such a dream come true for Chicago.

Beginning about two months after the Polish carrier takes delivery of their first shiny new Dreamliner at the end of this year, plans are to fly it back and forth from Warsaw to Chicago. If you have ever been to Chicago, you understand the close ties it has with it's Polish heritage, so the move makes sense. LOT is the first European carrier to take delivery of the new bird and plans to show off in the good ole U.S of A.

Airline Uniforms are Keeping the Faith

February 28, 2012 at 3:47 PM | by | Comments (0)

For airlines that fly internationally, cultural sensitivity is occasionally part of employee training. We have already talked about Alaska Airlines eliminating prayer cards from their first class meal trays. While the Alaskan carrier abandoned the in-flight faith, other airlines have gone the next step to ensure a religious vacuum while flying on their birds.

The Polish flag-carrier, LOT, may be added to the list of airlines that walk the fine line of being politically correct while upholding consistent uniform guidelines. The airline has been involved in quite a firestorm recently by banning cabin crew from wearing religious symbols that are visible to passengers. After much debate in the deeply religious nation, the carrier decided to renege on their decision and maintain original policy.
