Qantas Has Issues And John Mayer Tweets Them

The flying kangaroo, AKA Qantas, has got problems. As if banning beer on some flights wasn't bad enough, the planes and the pilots have been misbehaving too.

Last week, there was the case of the pilots who forgot to put the landing gear down on their way into Sydney, forcing the pilots to abort the landing and go again later. Those pilots have now been suspended although the lack of landing gear is being put down to a "brief communications breakdown" by Qantas.

'Vom'd The First Night' :: Mayercraft 2 is a Success

Unfortunately, we didn't manage to finagle our way onto the Mayercraft Carrier II, the much talked about celebrity cruise involving and inspired by singer John Mayer and his most passionate fans. But while the boat's still out at sea until tomorrow, reports are trickling back to land, despite onboard tweeters being slapped with roaming charges.

The trip so far, according to John: There were toasts, ill-advised songwriting sessions and collegiate cliché-forming and all of it was very busy. Mayer may or may not be headed to bed right now after "DJing" with iTunes till 7AM.

John Mayer's Mayercraft is Waxed and Ready to Go

John Mayer's Mayercraft is departing from San Pedro, California today and if you aren't one of the lucky ones on the ship, you may still have a chance to go. The Mayercraft Carrier website still says there are less than 100 cabins left, starting at $879 per person. (Call 1-877-SIXTHMAN to book.)

Meanwhile, John, an avid and sometimes annoying Twitterer, has prepped for the four-day cruise to Cabo by making sure his "area" is all waxed for the return of the neon yellow Borat-style mankini. Um. Ok.

Work On Your Tan With John Mayer

Don't forget your banana hammock! John Mayer's Mayercraft cruise, which made its debut last year with that unforgettable "Borat"-style swimsuit, still has cabins available for its March 27 sailing.

The original Mayercraft Carrier boasted an '80s Prom and a visit to the Bahamas as well as performances by Mayer and other artists (like Colbie Caillat). The Mayercraft Carrier 2 will leave from Los Angeles, heads off to Cabo and features Guster and O.A.R. as well as its titular dude.

American Express is offering a package (heh) for the 4-day cruise (run by Carnival) for $1,298 per person, which includes "VIP Check-in" and a special session with the almost-Mr. Jennifer Aniston. Hey, it's cheaper than the trip that was put on eBay last year! If your body isn't a wonderland, you might want to check out AmEx's other deals with Carnival involving bands like Barenaked Ladies (February 1-6) or Lyle Lovett (February 28-March 7). Unlike the Pink Floyd cruise, the actual bands will be on board... we think.

Why duck it any more? Serial Aniston-dater John Mayer was caught arriving at LAX with his brothers Carl and Ben on the day after Christmas.

Mayer recently contributed to fellow musician Pete Wentz's round-up of his friends' favorite things of 2008, and he named "Wireless internet on airplanes" his second favorite thing! (Just behind President-elect Barack Obama.)

Allow us to present the sailing of the century: A four-day, three-night "experience" for four aboard the "Mayercraft Carrier 2" with serial celebrity bedder John Mayer departing San Pedro, California on March 27, 2009.

But while the MC2 is in reality simply the Carnival Splendor, you won't be able to book this epic journey--that also includes pre- and post-sail stays at the swanky Casa del Mar in Santa Monica and first-class air travel--on the cruise line's website. Instead, you'll have to bid for it on eBay.

The current asking price is $25,000, which is way cheaper than some inauguration rentals we've seen. Plus, you actually get to meet Mayer, take home an autographed guitar and maybe even figure out once and for all if he and Jennifer Aniston really are back together.

Sneaking Around With The Ex Travel: Jen and John Discovered in Boston

You really thought you could do this stealthily, guys? Jennifer Aniston, one of the top tabloid-selling stars in the country, flew to Boston to catch up with ex John Mayer and take in a Ray LaMontagne concert with him. Okay, it's not exactly drinking by the pool topless, but guys! What did you think was going to happen?

Mayer reportedly dumped Aniston by text message in August and then wrote on his blog that one fifth of the world wants out of their relationships. But that didn't stop her from meeting him in Boston, spending the weekend with him in New York City and then flying with him to LA in a private plane.

Maybe it's recession-related: Resuming an old relationship means you can skip right to the pajamas-and-Netflix portion of the relationship and cut the expensive wining and dining.

John Mayer Taking Self-Defense Classes: We Worry

Your body is a roundhouse punch: John Mayer puts up the dukes with a trainer at Rich Barretta Private Training, a Krav Maga studio in New York City yesterday.

Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art focused on hand-to-hand combat and self-defense in real life (as opposed to in-studio) situations.

Hilary Swank is a fan and Matt Damon studied it to prepare for his role as Jason Bourne--the practice emphasizes using all available objects to disarm your opponent, something which Bourne has clearly mastered.

Vacation Homes Travel: Jen and John Shack up at Joe's

So John Mayer and his latest celebrity conquest, Jennifer Aniston, have been on vacation this week trying--and failing--to stay out of the long-range eye of the paparazzi. Their latest shelter isn't a Four Seasons or remote mountain cabin: It's the Mexican home of "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis, recently released from prison, indicted for tax evasion and cited for capturing before-she-was-famous footage of Spitzer ladyfriend Ashley Alexandra Dupre.

We have to admit, Francis does have a sweet pad called Casa Aramara--Aniston even vacationed with previous boyfriend Vince Vaughn there.

We don't know if Francis was around to receive his famous guests, but it's hard to imagine staying at the House That Wild Girls Built without at least something sketchy happening. Budget travelers covet the open invite of a friend with an extra room or a couch, but there's always a trade-off: Do you have any host- or hostess-of-horror stories?

NOLA Jazzfest Leads Us To Ask, Who Isn't a Jazz Artist?

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival just announced its lineup for 2008, and we'd just like to say: Sheryl Crow is jazz? Like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, the Nola fave has expanded its reach in recent years to include artists outside of its chosen genre like Stevie Wonder. Last year's performance by Jaunted-unendorsed John Mayer also falls into this category.

The Festival takes place two concurrent weekends, April 24-27 and May 1-4, and also features The Neville Brothers, Cassandra Wilson and Alison Krauss as well as hundreds of other regional and local acts. HotelChatter has the scoop on the best places to stay when you're there.

John Mayer Knows His TSA Directives

Singer John Mayer retrieved his laptop from the TSA bin at LAX yesterday. (And even having dated Jessica Simpson doesn't exempt one from having to remove his shoes at airport security.)

Mayer recently gave up his blog, beloved of fangirls everywhere for its scintillating comments on how it felt to see himself in GAP ads and how he allowed "Your Body Is A Wonderland" to be used in an episode of "The Office." Jessica Simpson & John Mayer in Miami

What better way to escape the frigid northeast then head to Miami this week? That's what newbie couple Jessica Simpson and John Mayer did. The two popped up yesterday to check in at the Four Seasons, where they hit the posh on-site gym, Sports Club LA, and took a yoga class and lifted weights together.

Last night, they were spotted at Nobu, nibbling on sushi in tandem. When the bill came, they both apparently made a grab for their cash, until John took out his wallet and Jess lifted out some lipstick--smart girl. Sources say they'll remain in town all week, as Mayer has four concerts in FL in the coming days.
