Are Celebs Working Hard or Hardly Working to Keep Tourism Alive?

March 12, 2009 at 4:01 PM | by | Comments (0)

It seems as if the work is never done for our favorite celebs -- and the commute can be nasty: From Hawaii to Australia, even they have to go where the work is. Still, we wish our day job consisted of such travel perks like the ones these celebs get to experience.

Tween sensations Zac Efron and Taylor Swift hit up the red carpet in Syndey while the more mature TomKat hit up Tokyo at a premiere for "Valkyrie." Matt Damon was cycling in Cape Town and Jessica Alba checked out the fashions in Paris. Ah yes, and speaking of Paris...Paris Hilton was shooting a perfume ad in Hawaii.

Check out our gallery to see what we're talking about.

Celebs Make DC a Glittering Hot Spot for Once

January 22, 2009 at 10:48 AM | by | Comment (1)

The party this week wasn't in New York or L.A.: It was in Washington D.C., where Barack Obama took the oath of office to become the nation's 44th president. Our own correspondent on the ground at the Inauguration sat next to Dana Delaney, spotted Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins at the swearing in and Dame Judi Dench and Heather Graham on the red carpet.

Some were there to party, but many were there to participate: Beyonce performed on the National Mall on Sunday at the "We Are One" concert, later opening an inaugural ball with her take on Etta James' "At Last." Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson attended the Declare Yourself! inauguration party together, and later in the week, Sam DJ'd the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball.

Some used the night to call attention to their pet causes: Ben Affleck and Jessica Alba appeared at a benefit for filmmakers who want to make political movies, and Rihanna cut a rug at the Feeding America charity ball, with proceeds going towards hunger relief efforts around the country.

Some, like Oprah, an early supporter of Obama's candidacy, brought all their besties to the party. (A tipster sent us a great shot of Oprah with Steadman and trailed by Gayle.) But whether they got all bundled up to watch the ceremony from the Mall or got all dolled up for an inaugural ball, stars in D.C. knew they weren't really the attraction on offer: The new Democratic administration was the real draw.

Maternity Travel: Tracking the Baby A-List

June 9, 2008 at 1:30 PM | by | Comments (0)

US Weekly reports that Jessica Alba gave birth to baby Honor Marie this weekend at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA. The "Fantastic Four" and "Love Guru" star chose the same hospital where both Nicole Richie and Christina Aguilera gave birth earlier this year.

Cedars-Sinai ain't too shabby--it was ranked the 17th best hospital in the US last year--but why are Hollywood's new moms choosing to stay in LA, home to so many pregnancy-preying paparazzi?

Proximity's one reason, but not all of it. (Not every celeb wants to give birth in Namibia in order to get privacy!) But maternity wards, like plastic surgery practices, that establish a reputation for privacy get more celebs to consider them in their birthing plans. Nicole Kidman and Gwen Stefani, make your reservations now.

Movie Set Travel: The Eye

February 1, 2008 at 8:52 AM | by | Comments (0)

This week Jessica Alba loses her vision, gets an eye transplant and things get creepy. "The Eye" is the story of Sydney, a blind violinist, who is given the chance to see after a corneal transplant. The problem is she's inherited some nutjob's eyes and has to endure scenes of death and terror with her new set of peepers.

Her only cure is to figure out whose eyes they are and what "secret visions" they've beheld. Creepy enough for us.

This one wasn't filmed anywhere super exciting, we'll admit. But there are entirely too many cool eye-travel tidbits to highlight, so read on--we couldn't resist!

Where To Stay: Hotel Sultan's Eye, Istanbul Slip into this self-styled "boutique" hotel in the center of old Istanbul for a very reasonable night's stay. Rooms are under $100, you get a full buffet breakfast and free wireless. Hey, the W it ain't but there is a rooftop terrace with a partial Black Sea view.

Where To Eat: In A Pig's Eye, Salem, MA Looking for a local joint with North Shore (or should we say "shoar") style? Head to this Salem hangout. It might look like a your average American pub with burgers, beer and nachos, but it's got an alter ego as a live entertainment hub. Acts range from spoken word to acoustic guitar to raging bands. You can come back every night of the week for something new.

What to Visit: The London Eye, London Since opening in 2000, the London Eye has become the UK's most sought-after attraction, and is a pretty sweet feat of engineering and design. The giant Ferris wheel with time capsule-like pods for riders allow you to see for miles in all directions. If you're there over Valentine's Day, book the "Cupid's Capsule" and you'll get a private pod of your own with a bottle of champagne and truffles.

Jessica Alba Makes a Young Boy's Dream Come True on Miami Beach

January 12, 2007 at 12:44 PM | by | Comments (0)

Jessica Alba spent the first week of 2007 being photographed over and over again in different bikinis on Miami Beach and she gave one kid the ultimate travel story.

Fratire site DoubleViking.com wrote an open letter to the kid, saluting him:

Put the goggles you wore on eBay. List them as "Goggles Worn When I Saw Jessica Alba In A Bikini" and set the minimum bid at $10,000. And then watch them sell. For a million bucks. You're probably thinking, but wait, they didn't even touch Alba, who's gonna buy them?" Kid, ohhh kid. The same sun rays that were baking the sweet, supple perfection that is Jessica Alba's ass passed through those goggles.

You saw Jessica Alba swim by...and lived to fight another day. Alba in a bikini is like a modern day version of a medieval dragon...mythical, amazing...and dangerous as hell.

There were plenty of reasons to go to Miami Beach before we came across this photo, but from the ear to ear grin on this kid's face, it appears Miami Beach may have just travel acquired a life long customer.

Chasing Vancouver: In Which We Are Rude to Renee

Ah, making fun of celebrities: it's been fun since the dawn of time, and with every new advance in technology, we can do it better and more effectively. For instance, makeup, lighting, and airbrushing all conspire to make Renee Zellweger attractive, making unstaged shots of her all the more delightful, in an evil sort of way. All of this has nothing to do, really, with her movie shooting at the Vancouver Art Gallery, but odd-looking celebrities are more interesting than art, anyway.

One could argue that becoming more unpleasant the more famous you get is also an art form, in which case we submit Exhibit A: Jessica Alba. No tales of bitchery yet this week, but she's back in town shooting Fantastic Four. We won't have to wait long before she unleashes herself upon the public again. And Mark Wahlberg, who seemed perfectly cordial during his stay in Vancouver, ended on a down note when he was a total poopy pants at his wrap party - and we have photographic evidence!

Chasing Vancouver: Jessica Alba Goin' Back To Cali

Click Here to Go Straight to the Chasing Vancouver Map!

Chasing Vancouver is back from our break and it looks like Vancouver was full of location spotting over the long weekend. While multiple tipsters informed us that Good Luck Chuck was set up and filming at Howe and West Hastings over the weekend, there is a reason none of you spotted Jessica Alba. She has taken her dog, and her boyfriend, and gone back to Cali. Yup, the photo above is actually of JA in the comfy surroundings of So Cal. That's right Vancouver, you don't have Jessica Alba to kick around any longer, er or maybe you won't get kicked around by Alba bitchiness any longer, at least until she returns to BC to film Fantastic Four II. That is if they don't make all of FF2 on a computer.

Voncouverites also gave Andy Samberg some love this past weekend, but one tipster who shared drinks with Mr. Samberg at Columbia wants him remember he owes a couple folks a drink or two up there.

While some folks were spotting filming locales, others were beginning to plot their party crashing strategies for the Vancouver International Film Festival, which kicks off later this month.

Sleeping with the Fishes in Vancouver

August 29, 2006 at 8:45 AM | by | Comments (0)

The Fairmont Vancouver Airport is a rather unassuming luxury hotel--certainly one of the nicest ones that you'll find connected to a terminal--but it has a special feature that we are quite sure Jessica Alba will not be availing herself of anytime soon. Because many of their clients go fishing as part of their visits to Vancouver, the Fairmont has their own fish freezer.

While it's not quite the same as a fish concierge, they will also prepare the fish for you, should you wish to eat it at the restaurant in the hotel. Otherwise, they'll just keep it chilly for you until it's time to go home.

Speaking of chilly, the Chasing Vancouver map is on ice for the week, and will return after Labor Day. If you see Jessica Alba sex hair or anything else of note up there, though, don't hesitate to send us a tip.

Chasing Vancouver: Mark Wahlberg, Hockey Player?

August 25, 2006 at 12:56 PM | by | Comments (0)

Click Here to Go Straight to the Chasing Vancouver Map!

As if to prove that movies aren't just filmed in Vancouver because it's cheap, this week various productions did location shoots at landmarks unique to the city. Mark Wahlberg was shooting scenes at GM Place, headquarters for west coast hockey, and a plain old huge stadium. Pierce Brosnan shot at the Hotel Europe, which isn't actually a hotel anymore but is still considered architecturally important, as an early and prime example of a flatiron building. Finally, Vancouver is known for its beaches, so the Jessica Alba and Dane Cook movie Good Luck Chuck took advantage of that with a shoot at one of Stanley Park's more historical beaches.

Chasing Vancouver: Halle Berry and Pierce Brosnan Won't Stop Eating

August 24, 2006 at 3:04 PM | by | Comments (0)

Man, those celebrities sure are hogs! Big fat gluttonous pigs who won't stop eating! Just look at Halle Berry - give the chewing a rest, lady!

All kidding aside, she's living proof that some people just have faster metabolisms. She showed up in Vancouver last week and apparently hasn't done anything but eat since then. She's been joined in gluttonous bliss by Jessica Alba, Mark Wahlberg, and Benicio del Toro; in fact, they were all at the same restaurant within a few days of each other. It must be a light work week because they celebrities are just hanging out in Vancouver - Hayden Christensen was out on the beach enjoying the weather. And eating a hot dog, because that's what celebs do in Vancouver, apparently. But the King of Gourmandville crown goes to Pierce Brosnan who apparently like-a da pasta. Everywhere you look he's checking out a new restaurant, but he does appear to have a favorite: he went back to West Restaurant with his coworkers after, as we reported, checking it out last week on his own.

Remember to zoom in, out, and around on the map - with so much happening in one neighborhood, it's easy to miss a map point.

Chasing Vancouver: Pierce Brosnan Has a Hot Assistant

August 22, 2006 at 3:26 PM | by | Comments (0)

Click Here to Go Straight to the Chasing Vancouver Map!

We have exciting same-day news: today Good Luck Chuck will be filming at the Coal Harbour Community Center today, so those who want to head over have a good shot at a Dane Cook or Jessica Alba sighting. Bring your cameras, but remember, don't make her mad! She bites.

Once again, the movie and celebrity action is concentrated in the West End, which we are sure is a lovely place, but c'mon, Vancouverites - let us know about other awesome neighborhoods in your fair city! David Duchovny arrived early in Vancouver to check out the scene before he starts work on Things We Lost in the Fire, while Pierce Brosnan just keeps on charming the locals. He's even doing the men of Vancouver a favor by introducing his reportedly comely assistant to all and sundry. Thanks, Pierce! Chasing Vancouver: Ice Cube Finally Shows Up

August 17, 2006 at 4:56 PM | by | Comments (0)

Click Here to go Straight to Chasing Vancouver Map!

Ice Cube is in town...but it's not quite the party it might once have been. Mostly he's been shooting scenes in tranquil Deer Lake Park, a thoroughly charming Vancouver suburb.

Pierce Brosnan is the big spender this week, going out to West Restaurant and Bar, where it's quite easy to drop hundreds on dinner.  However, Joe Fortes, the seafood place we mentioned before, seems to be the place to go, according to The Vancouverite: Jessica Alba and Edward James Olmos got their grub on there.  Ice Cube did go out to the Sutton Place Hotel, which previously hosted Kristin Davis and Matthew Perry. Copycat! Speaking of which, Jessica Alba and Rachel McAdams shots scenes at the Hollywood Theatre. With any luck, Rachel was there first and left a Miss Manners book as a gift for Jessica.

Be sure to zoom in and move around on the map so you don't miss any of the travel tips!
