Breakdancing. Nuns. Popping and locking. A rapping child. Autotune. Flight attendants singing doo-wop.
Welcome to Virgin America's first new safety video in six years. Without spoiling the surprises of the video, we'll just say our first thought was that something so entertaining can't possibly comply with FAA regulations. Oh, but it does. To see is to believe.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, a Virgin America frequent flyer who also happens to be the director for Hollywood films like Step Up 2 and G.I. Joe, the video taps the talent of dancers, singers and choreographers from both American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.
According to VX, this is the "first-ever domestic safety video set entirely to music and performed in dance." Watch for it on billboards in Times Square, or catch the YouTube version below before viewing it on an actual Virgin America flight starting this November.

This has been quite the week for stray animals wandering into airport facilities. First, there was the story of the adorable kitty cat who took an unintended ride in a SWISS plane from Athens to Zurich, surviving the ordeal and finding a new home in the process. Now, there's the equally cute tale of a small kangaroo who, likely attracted by the red roo logos of Qantas, showed up at Melbourne Airport.
The little guy wasn't there on vacay, however, but he actually hopped into a pharmacy in the terminal after suffering minor injuries from being hit by a car outside. After subduing the animal, airport workers kept him cozy in a Qantas blanket.
To update passengers and the curious on the incident, Qantas then took to their Instagram:
This past weekend Nicole Richie took to the skies most likely on her way to a fabulous luxury vacation, but the reason for traveling or the destination isn't so important at this point since her inflight social behavior is more noteworthy. The celebrity-kid-turned-reality-star-turned-fashion-designer made some mile-high friends as she was jetsetting from Point A to Point B and turned the camera around to film the antics.
It seems like her flight was poppin' bottles and sure enough things started to get friendly. Nicole filmed a little Instavid with one of her newest "friends," captioned it "This is my new friend. I'll have what she's having" and showed her followers the fun they were having in the sky.
Kelly Osbourne, TV personality and daughter of Ozzy Osbourne, posted a curious photo to Instagram yesterday. While hanging out at the airport with her mom, Sharon Osbourne, Kelly snapped a pic of Sharon's baggage destined to accompany her on a five-day trip. Kelly looks unimpressed, but taking a photo of the jumble is obviously her way of showing that she considers it...a bit much.
Sharon is flying with at least eight checked suitcases, causing her own daughter to brand her "the worlds best diva!"
Eight pieces of luggage (plus carry-ons) is excessive, even for a celebrity with wardrobe demands. Typically we do five days with a single 20" carryon, containing three outfits. For us to travel with eight checked luggages, we'd have to moving to another country for at least three months or so.
Without even thinking about the excess baggage fees, what do you thinkhow many bags is too many?
Did you know that airports are two of the top 10 most Instagrammed spots in the world?
Travel is one of the most visually inspiring activities a person can do in their life, not to mention that every trip is in itself a major life event. Breaking from the norm, seeing with "fresh eyes," and interpreting all this into images makes Instagram a natural outlet for sharing experiences. We want you onboard for our travels, too.

The family spent much of the last two weeks cruising the islands of Italy in their own personal yacht. During the excursion they were spotted along Italy’s Sorrento Coast and on the island of Capri. They even made their way to Blue Grotto, a cave that traps sunlight and creates a beautiful blue reflection.

After far too many months of Instagram posts that aren't very exciting, AeroMexico has begun to use the photography social media site to brag about their newest bird. In fact, the Mexican airline is not only snapping pics of a 787 Dreamliner of which they've just taken delivery, but are letting the cameras roll with some 'Instavids', and we can't be happier.
A few weeks ago, the airline began getting its followers excited with a countdown to the delivery date of the new Boeing aircraft, using the hashtag, #AMBoeing787. A week before AeroMexico took the keys to their (big) baby, their account was active with a few videos. A cool one showed off the 787 getting painted in time-lapse, while another offered a peek at it pulling out of the hangar and taking to the skies.

It's officialLufthansa gets it. By it, we mean Instagram, as they've just completed a brilliant photo series named #pilotdiary which goes above and beyond (and into the cockpit) to share the Lufthansa experience, but through the eyes of an international commercial airline pilot.
To be specific, the 39 photosposted from July 29 through August 2chronicle the early mornings and long flights of Philipp, a Senior First Officer on Lufthansa's 747s. Jetting back and forth between Frankfurt and Los Angeles at the yoke of a new 747-8i, he snaps anything and everythingfrom a lunch over Greenland to a generic layover hotel room, and even a brief beach breakto essentially provide a full picture of life in the skies.
TSA has a press strategy - and we've discussed it before - which isn't very sophisticated but still somehow makes sense in a caveman sort of way. The agency wants American citizens to know that there are people out there trying to carry dangerous weapons onto airplanes. Fair enough. So their media outreach goal has been to show American citizens that there are people out there trying to carry dangerous weapons onto airplanes. See what we meant about not being very sophisticated?
Traditionally the agency has settled for very straightforward press outreach. Every time someone got caught carrying a knife or a gun or a cane with an effing sword in it through security, TSA would reach out to reporters to try to get a story written. That's why if you type in "TSA" on Google News, you'll get a bunch of local outlets writing one-off stories about weapons found in airports.

Almost everything that's been said has been said, so here's the news plain and simple: the royal baby arrived today to parents Prince William and Kate Middleton.
While royal watchers and much of the UK catches their breath, brands are racing to express their well wishes. Of course airlines are getting in on the action, taking to Instagram and Twitter. Here's a few who've likely already sent little wooden toy airplanes to the hospital:

Not like you need any more reason to travel to New York City, but hear us out a moment.
There are two times every year when one can take the the most spectacular photos of the Manhattan skyline, dramatic and backlit. It's called Manhattanhenge, a portmanteau made from the combination of Manhattan + Stonehenge, the latter also a place famous for solstice action.
During Manhattanhenge, the setting sun perfectly lines up with the grid of the city's east-west streets, creating a canyon of searing lights down every midtown street. Photographers who wish to capture this phenomenon typically stake out the west end of of wide 42nd Street, and even head over the East River to Long Island City to capture the whole of the skyline.

Instagram has had video functionality for all of 24 hours at this point, and already an airline has pounced on the opportunity to use it as a marketing tool. Smart. Very smart, especially since this weekend will likely see Instagram addicts toying with making videos and searching for creative ones as inspiration.
That airline is JetBlue, and they're simply asking flyers to celebrate National Paper Airplane Day (today) by making either an Instagram Video or a Vine showing off paper airplane skills in a chance to win 20,000 TrueBlue miles. That's enough for a roundtrip flight, or several depending on your destination.
