Alaska Airlines' 'Alaska Beyond' Concept is All Good News for Economy Class

It seems that calling an airline class by "Economy" or "Business" or "Coach" is no longer cool. 2014 has seen the launch of "JetBlue Mint," "Delta One," and now, "Alaska Beyond."

Instead of a cosmetic rebrand, Alaska Airlines is investing millions to update their entire in-flight experience with huge benefits for the economy traveler.

Alaska Beyond begins rolling out across Alaska Airlines' 737 fleet from today through 2015, and it consists of several updates:

”Don’t touch what you can’t afford.” It was our go-to putdown in high school and, you might say, the atmosphere in the poshest of London's shops, Harrods. Except, for two weeks, you can do just that, because Singapore Airlines have set up a mock business class cabin in the shop window.

Saying “mock” is kind of a disservice to Singapore Airlines' display, because these are two fully functional seats (18A and 19A); they recline, they lie flat, and they even have the right inflight magazines in their windowside storage space. Speaking of the windows, they’re filled in with photos of Singapore. Even the TV in the seatback is a working example of the Krisflyer inflight entertainment system.
