On the Trail of 'The Hunger Games': Where the Tribute Interviews Were Filmed
If you loved The Hunger Games and can't sit still until the next film installment hits theaters, might we suggest some HG-related tourism? This week, we'll highlight a few Hunger Games locations that you can visit...without having to fight anyone to the death.
Although most of the movie was filmed in rural towns in eastern North Carolina, the interior shots in the Capitol required something with slightly more gloss. The state's biggest city, Charlotte, served as the backdrop for many Capitol locations.
The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Knight Theater was transformed into the auditorium where Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci) interviews the tributes and presents them on TV. That also means it's the place where Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) showed off her red evening gown and where Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) admitted he was in love with her for the first time. Even without the crazily-styled Capitol residents in the crowd, it's pretty easy to feel the magic in the building as it is now.

On the Trail of 'The Hunger Games': Where Katniss and Gale Learned to Hunt
If you loved The Hunger Games and can't sit still until the next film installment hits theaters, might we suggest some HG-related tourism? This week, we'll highlight a few Hunger Games locations that you can visit...without having to fight anyone to the death.
The state of North Carolina would have been in District 12 if the world of Panem really existed, so it seems fitting that The Hunger Games was filmed there. The lush forest where Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Gale (Liam Hemsworth) hunt for food and talk about their destinies is, in real life, the Pisgah National Forest just outside of Asheville, NC.
Specifically, the actors and entire film team went to the Coleman Boundary, a part of the park known for its gorgeous waterfalls. Nicknamed the "Big Ivy," this site is ideal for camping and hiking. Stay in the forest overnight and you'll be awakened by the morning dew, just early enough to catch one of those gorgeous sunrises.

Think You Could Survive The Hunger Games? There's a Tour for That.
With the popularity of The Hunger Games book and movie, it was only a matter of time before someone created a Hunger Games-themed getaway in the North Carolina forest where the movie was filmed.
The recently launched Hunger Games Fan Tours let participants "explore DuPont State Recreational Forest with your Sponsor to discover the locations used in the movie."
Fans will also learn fundamental survival skills to the Hunger Games, like orienteering, camo-face painting and shelter building. "We want to also teach them to appreciate the forest...this is a positive way we can help our community," explained Tammy Hopkins of Hunger Games Fan Tours.
