When Tables and Chairs Turn Erotic

The Dutch, as we know, are kind of progressive. That's why a Dutch company called Sexy Furniture cannot only make the owner a living, but also provide an exhibition for a Berlin art gallery.
In the Amadeus Art gallery in central Berlin, cabinet maker and artist Mario Philippona is exhibiting wooden sculpture and furniture pieces inspired by the female body, with names like "TittyFrutti" attached. Philippona says that his passion for wood (and, perhaps, women) inspired him to create other pieces including:
a wine-glass cupboard in the shape of a pair of large breasts, a table supported by legs moulded from a female model and a bedside drawer which opens by pressing a button in the piece's "vagina".If this isn't art for the non-art-lovers, then we don't know what is. What a good service Philippona's doing by creating art for the masses.

Just Say No To Dutch Cybersex
Americans often find it hard to imagine what life is like in a small country. Small town life might be a close approximation, but there's always the vast open space that is America waiting as an alternative. As this ad for a Dutch Internet service demonstrates, it's not just boredom that's a problem in a country the size of a postage stamp, it's that you get to know everyone pretty quickly. Let's face it: There is no worse time to lose your anonymity than after exposing yourself to someone over the Internet.
Maybe this is why the Dutch tend to speak so many languages--to prevent something like this from happening.

A Snack that Requires Dutch Courage

Nothings heralds the arrival of summer, in the Netherlands at least, quite like the season's first herring. Yum, tiny little fish! Called the Hollandse Nieuwe, it's quite the big deal over there--important enough that the Dutch Finance Minister was present for the ceremony celebrating the dubiously delicious snack this year.
The herring fillets are dipped in raw onion before you drop them into your mouth, holding them aloft by the tail and tipping back your head as you do so. The Dutch eat 120 million of the little critters each year, and the fish are deeply ingrained in the Dutch culture. We're not clamoring for herring export, we can promise you that much.
Maybe there's a reason that Dutch cuisine hasn't surpassed French and Italian as a popular export in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world. Why couldn't herring become the new escargot?
