Christian Bale and Michael Caine posed with Gary Oldman and Maggie Gyllenhaal on the red carpet at New York's AMC Lincoln Square for the premiere of "The Dark Knight" last night. Jaunted faves Lauren Conrad and Blake Lively were able to finagle invitations to mingle with Bale, who plays the caped crusader for the second time, aided by an uncorrupted police buddy (Oldman), his butler (Caine) and the assistant DA (Gyllenhaal).
Absent, as reported weeks earlier, was Michelle Williams, walking the red carpet for Heath Ledger, although the actor's parents and sister made an appearance. Ledger has been getting Oscar buzz from the likes of TIME and Rolling Stone critics--and Bale himself said his costar "steals the movie"--but we hear he's not in the flick as much as DA Harvey Dent, played by Aaron Eckhart.
Before Heath Ledger played a gay cowboy or Bob Dylan, he guested on Australia's most famous soap opera that isn't "Neighbours," "Home and Away." So it's only fitting that after his death his home city of Perth would try to focus on his more highbrow works by naming a local performing arts center after him.
Ledger had no formal acting training because there simply wasn't a venue in the western town, although he did play Peter Pan in an elementary school production.
And speaking of good acting, a Rolling Stone critic says Ledger's posthumous performance as the Joker in "The Dark Knight" (out July 18) is good enough for an Oscar nom.

Forget an oversized pillow or a lucky horseshoe--when actress Sienna Miller travels far and wide for movie roles, she always takes with her a pair of men's pajamas. Not just any pajamas, though. Sienna's sleepwear was a gift from late actor Heath Ledger from back when they were shooting the period romance "Casanova."
Miller and Ledger, who play unlikely lovers in the film, were caught out in a rainstorm and had to rush back to his apartment, where he lent Sienna the dry clothes from under his pillow. She later passed them back to him when he couldn't sleep. Ledger's dad returned them to her after his death in January.
We all have that luxury item we won't leave home without; what's yours? Don't laugh; we swear by our silly eyeshade for catching some z's in a light hotel room or on a daytime flight.

We're not even close to coming out of our depression about the untimely, tragic death of Heath Ledger, who died yesterday at the age of 28. In fact, we're probably still in shock that someone so talented and--by Hollywood standards--someone so under the partying radar could have died the way he did. Now, when it comes to Amy Winehouse or Britney Spears, we wouldn't be surprised if they keeled over this weekend.
Nevertheless, we're not going to focus on Heath's last hours, however many times TMZ posts updates on it. Instead we want to commemorate his life by revisiting the places that were important to him and which made him into the actor that we will always remember.
