Win 30 Things in 30 Days from Hawaiian Airlines
We all feel a little down on the Monday after Thanksgiving as the overindulgences—both food and financial—seem to really set in. Lift your spirits today by dreaming of Hawaii and, thanks to Hawaiian Airlines and their latest contest, your trip to paradise might just be around the corner.
The airline is giving away 30 prizes in 30 days, and some of them will definitely brighten your holiday spirit way more than the lights and decorations on the neighbor’s house. Hawaiian Airlines is doing all of this to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, so now’s a good time for you to join in on the celebration as well. It’s a Facebook contest, so you know the drill—you’ll need to “like” them to begin—but after that you can easily be in the running for some freebie goodies.

United, Scoot, and Southwest Lead This Week's New Routes News
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Southwest Airlines:
It’s a big deal when Southwest Airlines picks a new city to serve, as we’re pretty sure people enjoy lower cost flight options and the ability to check a couple bags for free. That’s why citizens of Des Moines, Iowa are excited, as Southwest has just started flying to and from their local airport.
Technically there was AirTran service here before, but now it’s going to be the blue-bellied planes doing the flying. Flights have already started to do their thing and, as of now, it looks like Southwest is connecting Des Moines with a couple flights per day over to Chicago’s Midway Airport. Now all the city needs is some cheap nonstop flights down to Florida during the colder months, and they’ll be all set.

Which Airlines Want Your Food Order Before Boarding

For those of you that are flying coach, the days of chicken or beef might finally be coming to an end. Airlines are realizing there is a market for premium meals even in the back of the plane and they're willing to take some cash and cook it up for you. But, only if you give them ample notice.
We have told you about a few airlines that have been upgrading their menus to offer coach flyers an improved flying experience, even giving a sample of the foreign land's cuisine. Here is the rundown of the pre-order meals options, by airline, but keep in mind this is really only the start.

Emirates, Frontier, and Qatar Airways Have Just Some of This Week's New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Hawaiian Airlines:
If you haven’t yet made it out to Hawaii this fall might be an excellent time to visit, and that’s especially the case if you call the west coast of country home. Hawaiian Airlines already sends plenty of planes back and forth between the mainland and the islands, but now it looks like they are shuffling things—in a good way—between Hawaii and the Bay Area of San Francisco.
Beginning on October 3, they’re upgrading the nonstop options to Maui out of Oakland and San Jose to as many as 14 flights per week. This does mean that the service to Honolulu will be decreased, but with a multitude of interisland flight options it’s easy to get to the other islands even from Maui. There’s even some decent fares with round trip options starting around $350 for a round trip flight—aloha!!
· Qatar Airways:
Big news for Chicago-O’Hare this week, as it looks like Qatar Airways has picked the airport as their newest option to and from the United States. Service to the Windy City will begin on April 10, as the planes and pilots do their thing back and forth from Doha.
Qatar Airways will use one of their Boeing 777-300ERs to get all the flying fun, and there will be room for about 335 passengers between business and economy class. It’ll take roughly 15 hours to complete the flight between the two cities, and the flights will be an option each and every day of the week. Chicago is just the latest option for Qatar Airways, as they’re already doing their thing in New York, Houston, and Washington.

Hawaiian Airlines' In-Flight Meal Service: Now 100% More Hawaiian
Over the last year or so, it seems like Hawaiian Airlines has been pretty darn busy expanding their service and adding new routes to here and there. Now that they’ve expanded their reach across the globe, they’re placing a new focus back on their domestic options as they do their best to bring a little more aloha to their passengers.
Hawaiian Airlines is hoping to remind passengers that they’re the only ones providing an authentic Hawaii experience up in the air, as they continue to solidify their signature ‘Mea Ho‘okipa Service’—which kind of translates to “I am host.” The fun began earlier this month, as there are now new made-in-Hawai‘i products and island-style complimentary meals.

Hawaii's Island Air Hulas to the Beat of a Refreshed Fleet
If you’re headed over to Hawaii anytime soon we’re pretty darn jealous, but you also should know about some new interisland flight options. In the past Hawaiian Airlines was pretty much the standard, with their jets heading back and forth between plenty of cities on most of the islands. Other carriers like go! Airlines and Mokulele Airlines are an option as well, but now it looks like Island Air might just be trying to squeeze its way into your mind—and wallet.
The carrier has been flying between the islands for years and years, but now they’re ready to go up against the big boys by revamping and refreshing their entire operation. New planes, new liveries, new branding, and even an updated website are all part of the new Island Air. Things are moving quickly, and the goal is to get everything updated as soon as this fall.

Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue and United Are Adding New Cities and New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Hawaiian Airlines:
Aloha to our friends down in New Zealand, as Hawaiian Airlines is schedule to arrive sooner than later. Beginning on March 13 of next year the carrier is set to connect Auckland with Honolulu without a stop. Tickets aren’t on sale as of yet, but we do know that Boeing 767-300ERs will take care of all the flying fun between the two cities. Unfortunately, we doubt that these flights will come cheap, but there’s always plenty of frequent flyer miles in our piggy bank—well, sometimes.
· Air Berlin:
Spring Break 2013 might not exactly be at the forefront of your mind, but if you want to skip the beach and head over to Europe there’s always Air Berlin. If everything goes according to plan, the carrier should be launching nonstop flights between Chicago-O’Hare and Berlin beginning on March 23. The new option will be doing its thing thrice weekly through May, and then they’ll add a couple more flights for a grand total of five per week. Airbus A330s will be doing the heavy lifting, and the flights will be some of the first to touch down at the brandy new Berlin Brandenburg Airport.

It's Hawaiian Airlines, Volaris and Cape Air with New Routes This Week
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Hawaiian Airlines:
It seems like Hawaiian Airlines is adding new routes at a pretty quick rate, and it’s not just between the islands and the mainland either. They’ve got plenty of international routes, and now it sounds like they’re ready to add one more. Hawaiian Airlines is sending some more planes down under, as the plan is to link Honolulu with Brisbane beginning on November 27.
The flights will do their thing three times per week in the fall, and all the flying fun will be aboard the carrier’s Boeing 767-300ERs. They’re actually the only airline based in the nifty fifty to offer nonstop service over to Brisbane, which is good news if you need to add a stop on your around-the-world itinerary.
· British Airways:
So this might not exactly be a new route announcement, as British Airways flies between Phoenix and London pretty darn regularly. However, the frequency of the route is getting a little bit of an upgrade. Just in time for the holiday season, the back and forth flights will become a daily option beginning in December.
Boeing 747s do the hefty lifting between the two cities, so there’s always a chance that you could sweet talk your way to the upper deck. Obviously visiting London this summer to check out the Olympics would be quite a score, but if not, it’s good to know there will be plenty of flights connecting these two cities after the games have run their course.

From Polyester Prints to Pool Blue: Hawaiian Airlines' Uniforms Through History

Two vintage uniforms with the current one (at right)
"Today we united the two best cities in the countryNew York and Honolulu. We'll have you on the beach, Mai Tai in hand, on the same day."
These words come from Mr. Mark Dunkerley, CEO of Hawaiian Airlines and the smilingest person last night at the party to celebrate the start of the airline's first flight between JFK and HNL. Of course he'd say this, since it's not only his airline, but his party and his Airbus A330-220 widebody that'll be zipping tropics-minded passengers on the long 10-hour flight.
Still, the start of this route marks a historic occasion for the airline and JFK airport, since Hawaiian has been around since 1929 and never before pulled their purple tail in a gate in the Big Apple. Now you'll be able to find the purple tail sticking out from the field of blue at JetBlue's T5 at JFK.

It's United, WestJet and Hawaiian Airlines with the New Routes This Week
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Cayman Airlines:
Usually we think of the warm Caribbean waters during the cooler months of the year, but it’s not like they roll up the sand and sun once the warmer months arrive. That’s why we were excited to hear about Cayman Airlines and their decision to bring a new flight in and out of Dallas-Ft. Worth. The route will head over to Grand Cayman beginning on June 23, and the flights will do their thing one time per week on Saturdays. Just be sure and get your vacation planned sooner than later, as these flights will be heading back to the hangar at the beginning of September.
· WestJet:
There’s another new option to and from the Caribbean this week, and this time the flying is come to you courtesy of WestJet. The low cost carrier is planning to connect residents of Toronto all the way down to Aruba for a little fun in the sun. The flights started up earlier this week, and will continue to do their thing once per week—on Sundays—through October 21. One-way options start at around $229, but that’s before taxes, fees, and other mandatory charges. The flights leave Toronto around 9am and arrive in paradise just before 2pm, so we say have a big breakfast and you’ll be all set for a late lunch on the beach.

And the First Airline to Earn Verified Carbon Credits Is...
Hawaiian Airlines hasn’t yet started flying with eco-friendly green gas; however, they are doing their part to give back a little bit to the earth. They’re pretty proud of their progress towards minimizing environmental impact, and now they’re boasting about being the first airline to earn verified carbon credits for their green initiatives and practices.
Over the last six years Hawaiian Airlines has reduced their carbon dioxide emissions by around 22,000 metric tons—give or take a ton—and they’re doing it all thanks to their fancy car airplane washing technology. It’s way more than a bucket of suds and a hose—and certainly nothing like this—as Hawaiian Airlines claims their engine washing process is the equivalent of taking 700 cars off the road each and every year.
The Pratt and Whitney’s EcoPower engine washing system saves plenty of water and lots of fuel and that’s a good thing, but we're a little bummed that the system is a little too strong to clean our car.
It’s not like you really need any more reasons why fly with Hawaiian Airlines, especially since you’re going to at least have a layover in paradise. Nonetheless it’s always nice to see an airline being sincere about efforts to do a little good for the earth while still doing business.

(Yet Another) Bankrupt Airline Alert: Air Australia Flies No More
The past few weeks have been quite a tumultuous time in the airline industry. Some big players ceased operations, like Spanair and Malev. Well, add another casualty to the list; Air Australia.
It seems like just yesterday we were talking about the re-branding of Air Australia from Strategic Airlines. They shifted from a full service airline to a low-cost carrier, filling the void left by Virgin Australia's switch to full service. The carrier's brightly painted planes zipped around on routes like Oz to Phuket, Bali, and even Honolulu, not to mention a handful of domestic services.
