How to Get to the Hamptons (by Seaplane!)

The decision to spend a summer weekend on the beaches of Long Island need not begin with dread for the long train ride/car trip/bus journey to the Hamptons. There are other options, but a faster, more comfortable ride will of course cost.

Did somebody say seaplane? In 40+ minutes from Manhattan's East River seaplane port, small planefuls reach the shores of East Hampton, Montauk and beyond. Here are the two companies with regularly scheduled flights:

The Hamptons See Star Power Even In The Low Season

The Hamptons have always been a hot spot for celeb activity, but this week it's the North Fork region of Long Island that has the big names. Yesterday, Tom Cruise was spotted jogging on Route 25 through Orient and East Marion with his bodyguard, who rode along side him on a bicycle. Tom seemed to be enjoying his run and waved to fans as they drove by. He was probably happy to have a few days off.

Tom's been busy working on the movie Knight and Day with Cameron Diaz in Boston. The production was scheduled to move to Salzburg, Austria today but Austrian filmmakers protested a tax incentive offered to Cruise and company by Salzburg authorities. In response to the backlash, the shoot has been cut down to just 7 days rather than the three weeks they had originally scheduled. Tom and Cameron will also be shooting in Spain and Hawaii over the next few week.

So, what would bring Tom Cruise to eastern Long Island in the middle of November? Most likely, his third anniversary with wife Katie Holmes. Mrs. Cruise is currently filming The Romantics in Southold, NY with co-stars Adam Brody, Elijah Wood, Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel and Malin Akerman. The cast seems to be making themselves at home while filming in Long Island. Adam Brody and Katie Holmes have been frequenting the Starbucks in Greenport while Elijah Wood was recently seen at Love Lane Kitchen in Mattituck.

'Royal Pains' Is At Home in The Hamptons

Today in what's filming in the Hamptons, we find the new USA Series Royal Pains shooting on Snake Hollow Rd in Bridgehampton, NY. The show, about a recently laid off physician (Dr. Hank played by Mark Feuerstein) who, after spending a weekend in the Hamptons with his brother, becomes a concierge doctor to the wealthy,should provide a nice adult alternative to the teen drama of the Hamptons seen on Gossip Girl.

The Hamptons will play a large role in the series, which isn’t afraid to incorporate the community’s sometimes over-the-top, decadent way of life into its story lines. The show also touts Hamptons life on its website, which features a Travel Guide & Map of the Hamptons, a glossary of Hamptonese, and a Hamptons Insider Guide.

Gossip Girl Travel: Your Eyes Are Doing That Thing Where They Don't Match Your Mouth

Blair shocks the swains when she returns from Paris early in order to attend the season-ending White Party. But she didn't come alone--she brought summer fling James with her to make Chuck jealous. OK, so maybe he's more of a Mr. Right Now than a Mr. Right, but even Chuck's entire harem can't make up for the fact that he really, really misses Blair. Like, in a near-tears way.

Hamptons Travel: Christie Brinkley Lives Her Own "Hills" Episode

OMG! Can you believe what happened in the Hamptons this weekend? Christie Brinkley was, like, at a benefit for the Ross School starring the Jonas Brothers--if you're too old to know, they're a hot Disney Channel-affiliated band of bros with a squeaky-clean image--and her ex Peter Cook showed up! With another girl! (OK, it was their daughter Sailor, but still!)

Brinkley did what our reality-television heroines would do--she fled. Because they, like, totally can't be in the same room together after she attacked him in court for pursuing young girls and spending thousands of dollars on porn, they're going to have to stake out spots like LC and Heidi. Leave the Hamptons for an ex-lover? Impossible.

The circle will only be complete if Brinkley goes on a date with one of the "JoBro." Considering they're all under 20, that's not a likely prospect.
