Groupon's Good for Something, Like Virgin America Flights with Free WiFi

January 31, 2012 at 10:56 AM | by | ()

We have our doubts about group buying sites like Groupon, especially when we're getting emails for discounts on laser hair removal 80% of the time, but occasionally great deals do pop up, and one such sale starts today.

The deal: Pay $39, get $100 towards round-trip flights between Chicago-ORD and San Francisco-SFO or Los Angeles-LAX. Included in that $39 is also a code to redeem for a free session of Gogo in-flight WiFi, itself worth $12.95. The $100 you get can be used to purchase any class of travel...so you're that much closer to one of the big seats in First Class.

What's the Deal with Delta's New LivingSocial Deals?

August 1, 2011 at 9:07 AM | by | ()

Flying can be expensive, so it’s nice to know that at least one airline is looking out for your wallet upon landing. Delta is teaming up with LivingSocial—the group buying site competitor to Groupon—to offer up some savings once you arrive at your final destination.

After you’ve booked your flight head over to the “My Trips” section of the site, where there should now be a new option available besides the traditional opportunities to give more money to Delta through hotel and rental car reservations. At the bottom there’s now a chance to sign up for LivingSocial deals, and if you’re not familiar with this kind of group buying program, basically it allows a whole bunch of people to buy the same coupon at extreme savings. That means getting a $50 restaurant gift certificate for like $25 or less, or finding a snorkel excursion that usually goes for $100 to be as little as $50.

Virgin America's Groupon Deal Did So Well, They've Brought It to Dallas

March 2, 2011 at 10:36 AM | by | ()

About two weeks ago, Virgin America managed to do an outstanding thing. They announced that service between Chicago-O'Hare and LAX, SFO would begin in late May, but more to the point, they sold out a crazy Groupon deal in a matter of a couple hours. The bargain was pay $7 and get $77 in airfare towards a roundtrip purchase on Virgin America’s new ORD routes, and the deal was good on Groupon's Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco sites...all of whom ate it up.

Well, the deal is back. Except this time it's a bit modified, and it's for Virgin America's Dallas-Fort Worth routes. DFW is still a new destination for VX, seeing as how they only kicked their spurs into the place back in December. Here's the details behind the airfare discount they've offering today (and keep in mind it's a limited thing!):

February 17, 2011 at 11:39 AM | by | ()

Update: The Groupon deal is now sold out. That was fast!

OMG. Deep breathes, deep breathes. Virgin America has done what for so long has seemed impossible—they've just announced flights to Chicago-O'Hare! The daily non-stop routes will begin as soon as May 25, heading from both San Francisco SFO and Los Angeles LAX to the Windy City. No New York City for now, and we sincerely hope that changes.

Who's ready for some awesome competition in ORD? To kick off the fare wars, Virgin has announced a huge sale in partnership with Groupon, and it's a doozy:
