Where Huma Abedin is Traveling to Escape Weinergate
What do you so when you are a wronged woman and your significant other's moronic infidelities continue to publicly humiliate you? You grab a girlfriend and take a trip to get away from it all. In Huma Abedin's case, said girlfriend is Hillary Clinton, who undoubtedly can impart some words of wisdom on how to deal with a philandering spouse while you're in the public eye.
After revealing that she's pregnant, deputy chief of staff Abedin joined Secretary of State Clinton on some trips. When you want to get away from someone who breaks your heart, apparently you go far. Like Abu Dhabi far.

Rihanna and Katy Perry Keeping 'Girlfriend Getaways' Alive
No boys allowed! Rihanna had singer Katy Perry over to her house in Barbados, where they went out on a boat and worked on their tans.
Another celebrity currently stimulating the travel economy this week but doing the opposite of a girlfriend getaway is Salma Hayek. She's rumored to be getting married (again, she tied the knot with French businessmen François-Henri Pinault in February) this weekend in Venice, Italy -- and by "rumored" we mean Antonio Banderas blurted it out in the press conferences. He's so not getting invited to the next wedding.
So what we want to know is, what makes a great girlfriend getaway? Or, in a larger, gender-neutral sense, what do you do with your friends when you travel? Do you have a first-night-out ritual? A secret induction ceremony? (Well, it won't be secret now!)

Jaunted Interview: Chatting with Stephanie Oswald
If you didn't know by now, girlfriend getaways are the hottest thing going in the travel world. The trend has already spawned a magazine and a website and now, clearly, it's time for the TV show.
Host Stephanie Oswald's All-Girl Getaways debuts tonight on the Fine Living Network, so we wanted to ask her: Is it just gonna be spas and pampering? And is this whole trend contrived? Her answers, and the bonus story of the last crazy meal she ate on camera, are after the jump.

T + L Confirms Our Theory On Cute Girls in Peasant Dresses
Fresh on the heels of her special project for Budget Travel, Girlfriend Getaways, Travel + Leisure editor Nina Willdorf, along with Andrea Bennett and Jennifer Cole, dropped a Women's Travel Special on us in this month's T + L.
What's inside? Newark International Airport chicks female travellers. This Women's Travel section is packed with a five-page photo/fashion feature of women on their way out of Newark International Airport looking stylish and heading to spots all over the globe.
While it is fun to leaf through the photos and questionnaires to see who is going where to do what, we couldn't help but notice the stereotypes that shined through:
White families travel to Canada, old sophisticated looking women go to Paris, Indians go to India, gaggles of fresh faced girls go to Europe, and cute girls in peasant dresses always end up running back to their Panamanian eco-hotelier boyfriends. What? It is true isn't it?
There's also a list of shopping, spa and volunteer trips for you and your sassy gal pals to check out when you're not buying Blahniks and Seven For All Mankind jeans.

Where to Take Your Special Goodness on Vacation

Hey Ladies! There are plenty of girlfriend getaways designed for you, with all the Chunky Monkey that you can eat, but how do you choose a destination to visit on your own? Does the attitude towards women in a place play a factor in the choice?
USA put together a quick list of five destinations that are more women-positive and five where women will want to be cautious. Their choices are interesting, although the authors are the first to admit that the list is quite arbitrary. On the vagina-friendly side are Amsterdam, Ireland, and India. As for places where women will want to watch out, USA Today picked the U.S., the Mediterranean Coast, and Latin America.
While we can understand some of their choices--the Netherlands is a forward-thinking place that can handle independent women, and Latin America is going to feel a bit more "traditional" to visitors--the logic does seem a bit silly overall. But maybe legalized prostitution, chronic alcoholism and extreme poverty simply take all the fun out of playing grab-ass.
