Where to Find Southwest Airlines' Nintendo Wii Video Game Lounges

December 3, 2013 at 9:23 AM | by | Comments (0)

Itís the season to celebrate the release of the latest and greatest in video games, and thereís one carrier getting in on the fun. Unfortunately theyíre not giving away the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One, but we canít complain if an airline just hands us one of those Nintendo Wii U things. Thatís the case over at Southwest Airlines, as theyíre partnering up with Nintendo to bring Mario, Luigi, and all their friends to 35,000 feet.

Just the other day, Southwest passed out a brand new Wii U console to around 100 or so of their passengers, and Flight 1883 from New Orleans to Dallas-Love Field was the lucky recipient. Apparently Mario was even there to welcome the flight to the terminal, and he jumped onto the intercom to confirm that everyone would be scoring some freebies.

How the Moscow Subway is Getting Fit for the 2014 Winter Olympics

November 14, 2013 at 8:44 AM | by | Comments (0)

Moscow is getting in shape for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, literally. Some subway stations in the Russian capital are accepting payment in the form of 30 squats.

If you're wondering how it works, try flashing back to those Nintendo Power Pads from the '80s. In front of the ticket booth, there's a blue pad on which you do the squats, while a screen keeps count of the number. At the end of squat 30, a subway ticket pops out of the doohickey. The brilliant initiative is designed as a way to get the population in better shape while also hyping the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics?

Well played, Moscow.

Attention NYC: Trade Beer for Free Travel-Ready Bags This Week

July 17, 2013 at 4:09 PM | by | Comments (0)

Attention New Yorkers: If you're in need of a new camera bag, laptop sleeve, messenger bag, weekender duffel or even a wheeled carry-on from a company that makes good products, listen up!

Today through July 21, bring beer over to Crumpler's Soho store and trade it for a new bag or laptop sleeve. No money required (except to buy the beer).

Don't just grab whatever's in your fridge, however; Crumpler has specific demands for each type of bag, and all because they're trying to stock up on booze before throwing a huge party (which you're then invited to attend). Check out the beer to bags equations. For example, 2 24-pack cases of Sixpoint get your a sweet messenger. We love the 3 24-pack cases of Cooper's deal to trade for the wheeled duffel carry-on. Two cases of Brooklyn Lager equal a backpack!

Buy some beer, get a bag, and drink the beer too. Not a bad deal for carving a little time out of your day, if we do say so ourselves.

Note: participants must be 21+

This is the Future: New York to Get Free Solar-Powered Cell Phone Charging Stations

June 18, 2013 at 2:46 PM | by | Comments (0)

First Citi Bikes, and now this? Fast Company reports that New York City will be installing free solar-powered cell phone charging stations throughout the city.

A shared project of AT&T and solar energy company Goal Zero will bring the charging stations to 25 rotating locations in New York for just three months.

Considering what a mess the city was post-Hurricane Sandy and how many people struggled to find places to charge their phones while their homes were without power, three months is not going to cut it. Somebody has GOT to make these charging stations permanent. (Until then, hit Destination Bar on 13th Street and Avenue A to charge your phone while you have a beer. You're all welcome in advance.)

Does this mean that cell phone theft in NYC is about to skyrocket? We'll have to wait and see.
