This Free Tattoo Shuttle Will Take You to Your Next Bad Decision

May 10, 2011 at 3:51 PM | by | Comments (0)

Fort Lauderdale has worked hard to wipe away its Spring Break destination reputation by banning drinking on the beaches and requiring folks to be 21 or older to check into a hotel, but the town hasn't given up the party completely.

The main drag, A1A, is still populated with bars and restaurants, almost all with outdoor patios, and on a recent Saturday night last month, we spotted folks salsa-ing on the sidewalks and making out along the beach wall. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and there was nary a wet t-shirt contest in sight.

Then we spotted this--a free tattoo shuttle to the Tattoo Blues shop. Ok, this might seem like nirvana when you've been downing tequila shots all day and you've been struck with the inspiration to get Justin Bieber tattooed on your derriere but will you think the free shuttle was such a good idea the next morning? Probably not.

All we have to say is ride with care. After all, friends don't let friends ride the free tattoo shuttle unless they've been thinking about getting that tattoo for at least a month.

Fort Lauderdale Airport Is The New Bunker Hill

November 20, 2009 at 5:09 PM | by | Comments (0)

When the Colonials learned that British forces were planning to send troops out of the city to the surrounding unoccupied hills, they acted. The colonials set up shop at the top of Bunker & Breed's Hill and picked off the redcoats sending them retreating towards Cambridge. Seems to us that FLL is the new Bunker Hill, though we will leave it to you to determine which airline wears what uniform.

By now we all know how Virgin America launched their 10th destination earlier this week at FLL and we have the photo gallery to prove it. However, what really struck us about our jaunt to meet them in FLL was the obvious jockeying for position that was going on there between JetBlue and Virgin America.

The feud deepens, after the jump.

Jetblue Will Also Fly Direct From SFO To Fort Lauderdale

August 11, 2009 at 4:12 PM | by | Comments (2)

Talk about stealing someone's thunder! This morning, Virgin America announced their plans for twice-daily roundtrips from San Francisco and Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale, beginning in September. By this afternoon, JetBlue had countered with their own suspiciously similar news; they'll be flying one daily roundtrip from SFO to FLL also beginning in November.

We can just imagine Jetblue reading the VA news and exclaiming "oh no you didnt!" Jetblue's flights will begin one day ahead of Virgin's, on the 17th of November versus VA's 18th. Tickets are not yet available for Jetblue's FLL flights. Despite Jetblue's jumping on their route and even a day earlier, Virgin America will have more flights, the whole LAX route as well, and not to mention their precious, precious in-flight WiFi.

Perhaps they'll even race each other in the air?

Virgin America To Service Fort Lauderdale in November

August 11, 2009 at 7:28 AM | by | Comments (3)

Who's ready for spring break?!?!!? Okay okay calm down, because you've still got another eight or so months before you can decamp with your whole camp down to Florida's beaches for barely legal fun. But for you snow birds and West Coasters looking to trade the clubs of LA for the clubs of Miami, the partying will start in November as Virgin America has today announced that they'll be flying nonstop from San Francisco and Los Angeles to sunny Fort Lauderdale.

Jaunted thought this would be a VA destination long ago, though we were leaning MIA over FLL.

Tickets went on sale today for flights beginning November 18, and with two direct roundtrips daily from each city, including the only directs between FLL and SFO, we expect them to go like hotcakes. True to their LCC nature—who thinks of them a low-cost carrier anymore, with their WiFi and great service?—the tickets will start out rather cheap. We're talking prices from $99 each way for economy and $499 and up for higher classes (those with the white leather massage chairs).
