Breakdancing. Nuns. Popping and locking. A rapping child. Autotune. Flight attendants singing doo-wop.
Welcome to Virgin America's first new safety video in six years. Without spoiling the surprises of the video, we'll just say our first thought was that something so entertaining can't possibly comply with FAA regulations. Oh, but it does. To see is to believe.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, a Virgin America frequent flyer who also happens to be the director for Hollywood films like Step Up 2 and G.I. Joe, the video taps the talent of dancers, singers and choreographers from both American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.
According to VX, this is the "first-ever domestic safety video set entirely to music and performed in dance." Watch for it on billboards in Times Square, or catch the YouTube version below before viewing it on an actual Virgin America flight starting this November.

Woooo hoo! #NYCFlightWeek has arrived! We didn't know what it was until noon today and now we can't imagine our life without it because it's already saved us a boatload on a dream winter trip. No joking. Listen up.
#NYCFlightWeek begins on Twitter, when the @JetBlue account tweets that 12pm EST is the time to watch for, at which point they'll tweet the link to the day's special 80% off airfares. Each has a promo code that strips the 80% off published airfares right on their official JetBlue.com site.
Today was the first day and it'll continue all through the rest of the week. So, what's the verdict? Judging from the first destination offerings of St. Maarten, Liberia, Costa Rica and Fort Myers, FL, travelers who can drop everything and jet off this or next week are in for some unbeatable deals. That's the only problemthere's limited availability on seats and dates, so travelers who are most flexible will be the ones to really cash in on NYCFlightWeek.

Our shot of a JAL 787 being built at Boeing's HQ. Notice the lack of engines
It feels like just yesterday we were freaking out over the launch of the very first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, by Japanese airline ANA. Well, their rival JAL wants everyone to know that they've got some Dreamliners coming as well, and they're taking them overseas to the US of A, and soon.
Like April 22, 2012 soon. If you've been dying to try the new plane and have been waiting for a oneworld airline to fly it, or just to experience it in the spring, then JAL has some airfares that may work for you. It's not a "sale" so much since the prices aren't cheap: from $1,500 roundtrip in economy between Boston and Tokyo-Narita or $6,500 in business class. Buy it before January 31, 2012 for travel between April 22 and September 30, 2012. We're thinking it would make an awesome holiday gift...!
Here's all the details to make it happen.

Update: The Groupon deal is now sold out. That was fast!
OMG. Deep breathes, deep breathes. Virgin America has done what for so long has seemed impossiblethey've just announced flights to Chicago-O'Hare! The daily non-stop routes will begin as soon as May 25, heading from both San Francisco SFO and Los Angeles LAX to the Windy City. No New York City for now, and we sincerely hope that changes.
Who's ready for some awesome competition in ORD? To kick off the fare wars, Virgin has announced a huge sale in partnership with Groupon, and it's a doozy:

My AYCJ experience was different from that of many others because a) I am British and b) I wanted to use this as an excuse to see parts of America that I knew I never would otherwise. I remember reading about AYCJ last year and thinking, “If they do it again next year, and you are in America, you will never forgive yourself if you don’t do it”. So I did.
The timing wasn't idealI had to work (remotely) right through the month and, of course, I ended up having more work to do than I had in the past three months combined. So there were a lot of 5am starts, and a devastating Saturday night spent chained to my computer in New Orleans. But even though that meant I had to spend longer in each place and see fewer cities, I still managed a fair deal.
Anyone who's ever tried to take the perfect souvenir photograph knows how ridiculously hard it is to get the parrot to stay still or your child to smile or the sun to shine on just the right part of the mountain behind you. Thus, you can bet that there's a slew of really awful images leading up to that perfect one, and thankfully, someone is interested in rewarding you for those unflattering attempts. Submit a photo to Virgin America's Awkward Family Vacation Contest
Just by submitting a photo (yes, it has to be of your family), you receive a code for "an awkward" 33.3% off a family booking of 3-6 people on one of Virgin America's Orlando routes. If it's really, really bad, you could win four roundtrip tickets to anywhere Virgin America flies. The idea is hopefully then you'll have learned your lesson, and better photos can be taken in your free vacation destination.

Remember when, last year, Brit Ben Southall went down under to work the Best Job in the World? Well, Ben is gone now but that doesn't mean Tourism Queensland is laying back and taking break. Nope. They've just partnered up with Foursquare to attract tourists via a new badge and a flight discount.
The "Shine Seeker" badge can be earned when a Foursquare user follows Queensland on foursquare and then checks into five of the 100 recommended spots (that have pretty great tips) on their page. Users who unlock the badge before December 31, 2010 are then automatically entered in a contest to win one of two trips to Cairns.
Are you thinking about heading to upstate New York (or down south Canada) to do your autumn leaf peeping with a mix of Niagara Falls whitewater? Join the crowd. We've been hearing more and more interest in this age-old tourist hotspot as the days get cooler and as prices for airfare come down.
On big example is with JetBlue's decision to discount all of their New York state flights this season to $49 each way from New York City. That includes Rochester, Syracuse andthe most importantBuffalo. Buffalo is the popular jumping-off point for trips to the falls, and cheap buses will take tourists directly from the airport. Thus, it's already been getting a lot of action during the past couple weeks, as we read tales of many All You Can Jetters doing the Buffalo flight and the Niagara Falls side trip simply because they'd never take the time nor the money out to do the trip on its own. And truthfully, we can't blame them.
So, with the usual busloads of Asian tourists, the cheesy honeymoon couples and the flash flood of AYCJ people, we're wondering who's not tempted by a trip to the falls?

Believe it or not, it's already been since the beginning of June that low-cost airline Iceland Express began flying between Newark-Liberty International and Iceland's Reykjavik-Keflavik Airport. The route has done well for them and they're extending the seasonal service through the end of October, as well as throwing in a totally new routeOrlando to Reykjavikspecially for the month of October, but we're guessing it'll return for summer 2011. The Orlando flights begin October 2 and end October 26, chiefly for Icelanders to get a last bit of sun.
If you're looking to squeeze in a last taste of Europe in summer, the airline is also throwing a huge sale on flights from New York to their European mainland destinations. For $399, taxes included, you can get from NYC to Copenhagen (we found $399 for a Sept 6 departure, Sept 13 return), London-Gatwick ($399 for Sept 2 departure, Sept 6 return), and Luxembourg (Sept 1 departure, Sept 9 return). Surf around for more dates, but remember not to try later than October since the airline will leave NYC for the winter.
[Update at 3pm] Jetblue has just announced on their Twitter that all AYCJ passes are now sold out.
It was only a couple days ago that we awoke to the awesome news that Jetblue was bringing back last year's popular All-You-Can-Jet Pass for a second round, and today the dawn brought with the announcement that the $699 AYCJ-7 pass has already sold out.
We can't exactly recall how long it took Jetblue to sell through their one-level, $599 AYCJ passes last year, but it sure wasn't less than two days. This just goes to show that people out there are totally into signing themselves up for marathon travel when the price is right. It also probably helps that those who blazed the AYCJ trail last year so thoroughly enjoyed their plane-hopping that their positive tweets, Facebooks and blogs sell this year's passes better than any campaign.

Omg omg. They promised they'd do it again, and they are! We're hyperventilating over here at Jaunted HQ as Jetblue has just announced the second All-You-Can-Jet Pass. This sweet ticket, available for purchase now and only valid for flights between September 7 and October 6, comes in two plans: the AYCJ-7 for $699 and gets you onboard any Jetblue flight within that time period, seven days a week, or the AYCJ-5 for $499, which gets you onboard any Jetblue flight from Sunday-Thursday (no Friday & Sunday flying).
The original pass, announced almost exactly a year ago this time (so technically, we should've been expecting this), was only $599, but this year's two-plan option offers greater budget flexibility even as it takes away schedule flexibility. Whatever it takes to get you out there and flying around!
