Would You Rent Expensive Luggage Just to Impress Other Travelers?

We understand that people sometimes need to rent expensive clothing for a night. You're at an event with people that you want or need to impress so you enhance your plummage accordingly. Fine. We might bemoan our inegalitarian culture, where society's velvet rope is lowered only to those who can turn heads, but whatever. People have wanted to look good for other people since the dawn of time.
Which brings us to this afternoon's edition of But Really? Today's topic: Flight 001's new rent to rent chichi luggage program:
If a pricy set of name-brand luggage is beyond your budget but you still want to travel with the crème de la crème, check out "Baggage Claim for Hire," debuting this spring at New York travel outfitter Flight 001. By the day or week, the store will rent cool wheeled luggage made of lightweight polycarbonates by the German company Rimowa. Bear in mind that a medium-sized Rimowa suitcase — like topaz gold — retails for around $500. So you can turn heads at the airport without breaking the bank.
Is this a trend? Are people really trying to turn heads at airports? With their luggage?

Shopping List :: Flight 001's Big Summer Sale

One of our personal faves in the travel gear biz, Flight 001 is having a huge sale at all their locations and at their online store starting today. Actually, it's going on right this minute.
If you hit up Flight 001.com or the stores in NY, Brooklyn, SF, Berkeley, LA, and Chicago from now through August 18th, you will find select merchandise from 30 to 75 percent off. The sale includes Samsonite BlackLabel luggage, Paul Smith bags and Flight 001 exclusives like the F1 Safety Laptop, a padded tote bag in safety card print that can store up to a 15" laptop. So that way, you'll never forget how to put on your oxygen mask in case of emergency. (We kid of course.)
Our pick would be the On the Move Kit from Oscar + Dehn. The four-piece kit includes cooling eye mask, Vitality and Calm aromatic oils and eye gel to help you get through stressful air travel. Originally priced at $32.00, the kit is on sale for $19.99. If we ever fly JetBlue again, this is what we would bring along.
But if you're anything like us, you might be tempted by what's not on sale. And that's ok, you've probably got good taste. As Cynthia Drescher, the web and press coordinator for Flight 001, says:
Outside of sale, we just got the Alexander McQueen luggage and the Fashionaire line from Samsonite, and Yohji Yamamoto's line for Mandarina Duck: Y's Mandarina, and more new Mandarina Duck!
But with Alexander McQueen's ribcage suitcase going for $750, you may want to browse back to the sale section after all. Just remember all sales on clearance items are final.
