Singapore's First Class Lounge Invites Great Experiences

Where: Changi Airport, Singapore, Singapore
February 25, 2009 at 1:01 PM | by amandak | 0 Comments

Some airlines fascinate us with bidets in their first class lounges, but Singapore Airlines has won us over with what we can only describe as style and sophistication.

This is their hometown lounge at Changi Airport and we like it for its late-night, Lost-in-Translation vibe. This is an airport lounge where elegant strangers fetch you drinks and (we figure) anything can happen.

The nice part is that Singapore Airlines actually lives up to the expectations this lounge gives you: remember their fancy-looking first class cabin on board? Attractive strangers welcome in either spot.

Lufthansa's New Lounge at JFK: Three Levels of Win

February 7, 2009 at 12:53 PM | by Victor Ozols | 0 Comments

The rich are different than you and me. They get showers. And cocktails. And comfy chairs. Okay, we schlubs get these things too, but not for free at JFK while we wait for our flights, which is the treatment Lufthansa's premium passengers get in the airline's fancy new private lounge. The austere German legacy carrier recently spent $10 million spiffing up its existing Terminal 1 lounge, expanding it to 1,500 square meters over three levels. Now frequent and first class fliers can relax in Hanseatic comfort while eating gourmet food as the unwashed masses in the regular terminal sit in awkward bucket chairs balancing Cinnabons on their knees.

Emirates Airlines First Class Cabin Video Tour

May 7, 2007 at 4:38 PM | by markj | 0 Comments

In a time where Skybus and other low cost carriers are aiming to take no frills to the extreme, Emirates Airlines is bucking the how-low-can-you-go trend and going top shelf:

"Passengers' expectations on long-haul flights are different," says Dermot Mannion, an executive at the airline. "The low-fare model will not work on long flights. Passengers want good service, comfort and certainly some food."

First-class features include; vanity mirrors, 19-in. video screens with 150 selections and in-flight e-mail. There is a personal minibar, the ever popular in-flight mood lighting that ends with a ceiling display of the Dubai night sky. Hot, young, flight attendants (we are not making this up, they tout their "young beautiful staff".

The price of a first-class seat from New York to Dubai: $8,999. Yeah, as per usual, you have to pay dearly for quality. However, look how much fun the passenger who brought us the above video tour is having just pushing buttons to open and close parts of his "capsule". We even hear a bit of laughter during the video tour--does anyone remember laugh-ter? On a long haul flight?
