There's an argument floating around about how tourism board video contests73151;Tahiti's iPhone competition from June being a good exampleare on the verge of becoming gimmicky and routine. It kind of makes sense, especially if you figure that there's a limited number of people inclined to enter and they'll give up after losing too many similar contests. On the other hand, the lottery is still in business and the most recent video contest is being promoted by Tourism Fiji. As long as there are still competitions with the 333 island paradise as their grand prize, it's probably safe to say people will keep competing.
The contest, dubbed the Ultimate Fiji Adventurer, calls on "thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies" to display their "daring and creativity" in a video highlighting why they're a good fit for Fiji and why Fiji's a good fit for adventurers. Winners get roundtrip airfare from LAX to Nadi on Air Pacific, seven nights at the decadent Sonaisali Island Resort, and daily meals at the resort.
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards hit up the hospital again this weekend, and not because he overdosed on something, for once. This time, Richards--who once admitted treating his body as a human chemical laboratory--fell out of a coconut tree while on vacation with his wife in Fiji.
Apparently Richards and fellow guitarist Ronnie Wood were climbing palms for kicks and Richards slipped half way up. Not one to worry about his well-being, Keith held off from going to the hospital for two days (good thinking, Keith) and then finally caved in and was transferred almost immediately to a hospital in New Zealand. Richards is undergoing tests and remains under watch.
Probably a good idea to stay out of the coconut trees while on vacation, even if you are a 63-year-old man with skin made of the toughest leather and a permanent Blood Alcohol Content welll past the legal limit in most states.
