Armani Says Rome No Longer a Fashion Capital
You know, we never quite understood the popularity of shopping trips to Rome; the luxury stores are the same you can find in any big city, and any other interesting store in the center has fallen to the tourist trade or believes their great location justifies inflated pricing. For once, Giorgio Armani agrees with us; he's saddened by and kind of angry at the state of Rome's fashion scene.
According to New York Magazine's fashion blog, The Cut, good old Georgie-boy said that Rome "has killed high fashion by showcasing people who didn't merit it." This is in reference to Rome's very own miniscule Fashion Week, which ended yesterday and which we didn't know existed. In fact, Armani's anger at Rome is probably the best thing that has ever happened for the event, as it succeeded in convincing the coordinator to remove the amateurs as well as getting some press for the poor thing.
If you are, in fact, hoping to jet off to The Eternal City soon for some retail therapy, we suggest skipping the stalwarts on Via Condotti in favor of the alleys of the Trastevere neighborhood, where you can find true local style in family-owned shops sandwiched between osterias smelling of gnocchi alla romana. Until Rome's Fashion Week shapes up per Armani's suggestion, we'll happily stick to our clothes scented with spaghetti.

Kanye West Shows Off At Paris Fashion Week
It's been years that Kanye West has been threatening to unleash his talents on the world of fashion. He finally made good this week when kicks he designed for Louis Vuitton hit the runway at Paris Fashion Week.
While on his blog, Mr. West seemed more concerned with dispelling rumors that he wants to do porn, the Louis Vuitton Don was all smiles with Marc Jacobs, who designed the collection featuring West's bright high-tops and loafer-style sneakers. Nor is he stopping there: West also designed a collection for Nike called Air Yeezy, expected to hit stores this spring.
The KWLV's won't be available till June, but if you've got the connections, you still have one more day to catch Paris Fashion Week: Today's remaining shows include Christian Lacroix (3:30 local time at the Centre Georges Pompidou) and Givenchy (7PM at 15 rue de l'Ecole de Médecine). Tomorrow, Fashion Week closes out with Elie Saab (12:30PM, 13 avenue du Président Wilson) and Jean Paul Gaultier (2:30PM, 325 rue Saint-Martin).

Fashionable Travel: Gaultier's Paris

This week in Paris, women bearing little resemblance to, uh, women have been strapping on their heels and climbing onto long elevated platforms as top designers unveil their spring 2009 collections at Paris Fashion Week.
Earlier this week, an amalgam of actresses and singers took front from at Christian Dior's Ready to Wear show. The group included one-hit wonders Lily Allen and Katy Perry and Marilyn Manson's ex.
The International Herald Tribune's Henry Alford used his time in Paris a bit more wisely, skipping out on some of the shows to let Jean-Paul Gaultier guide him through his favorite Parisian haunts. Check out a summarized version of what the guy who invented Madonna's cone bra considers Paris' crème de la crème:
