Where Eurovision Will Be Singing It's Heart Out in 2014
Well, it's been a whole entire year since all of Europe was singing and dancing to the annual song contest, Eurovision. Last time we watched, the insanity went down in Baku, Azerbaijan and Sweden won, so this year they played hosts in the Southern city of Malmö.
The contest as a whole has held the reputation of being quite the show, a mix of both native tongue and English lyrics accompanied by flamboyant costumes and overly produced choreography. This year was no exception. While the Russian grannies from last year didn't make the cut, 2013's winner did come from another Scandinavian country; Denmark.
If you're not up on the rules, this means Eurovision heads to Copenhagen for 2014.

Copenhagen's Airport Brings Danish Design to Departures
It’s not quite an IKEA in the middle of the airport, but one pop-up shop over in Denmark is bringing a little Scandinavian style to the terminal.
Danish designers have set up an area to display their goodies, as the new shop is doing its thing at Nytorv next to Tax Free (New Square). Things kicked off on May 8, and it sounds like you have a couple weeks to enjoy the offerings from different artists and manufacturers.
There will be an on-site jeweler doing her thing, as well as those putting together some bicycles with a little more style than usual. Woven cane chairs will be assembled right in the middle of all the airport action, as airport officials are all about showing off in what they’re calling a “live showroom.”

A Week in Copenhagen: From One City to the Solar System

Inside the Copenhagen Museum
Welcome to København! Often recognized as being one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in Europe with the best quality of life, Copenhagen is no-brainer. Sure it may be a tad expensive, but there's reason after reason for that. This week and last, Lilit Marcus will be sharing the must-hit spots, whether you have three days or over a week.
If you want to feel more like a local than a tourist, spending a day on the less crowded south side of Copenhagen is the way to go. Start heading west on Vesterbrogade, and you’ll soon find yourself mingling with the locals...although you still won’t have trouble finding English speakers.
At Vesterbrogade 59 you'll hit the Copenhagen Museum. This institution devotes itself to the history of the city, and since you’ve already spent a few days here you’ll recognize names of common places and famous former residents. The museum itself is fun and even zany at times, an eclectic mix of old paintings, re-created rooms from different time periods, plenty of subtle burns on the Swedes, and art made out of recycled trash.

A Week in Copenhagen: Taking a Liking to Vikings in Roskilde
Welcome to København! Often recognized as being one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in Europe with the best quality of life, Copenhagen is no-brainer. Sure it may be a tad expensive, but there's reason after reason for that. This week, Lilit Marcus will be sharing the must-hit spots, whether you have three days or over a week.
Think for a moment, The name Roskilde may already be familiar to you because of the city's most famous event, the annual music festival. But there’s much more to this cool town than one rollicking week every summer. Just a short train ride outside of Copenhagen (you’ll need to buy a regular ticket for zone eight), there are several attractions within a pretty short walking distance of the train station.
Our recommendation for a good overview of Roskilde is to start far away and come back the way you came. This means go along Algade, the main shopping street in town, and then hang a left onto Fredriksborgvej. After about 20 minutes, you’ll encounter a gorgeous fjord with several buildings in front of it. A team of scientists discovered Viking ships in excellent condition at the bottom of this fjord, and the Viking Ship Museum holds the reassembled boats along with all the juicy details on how such an excavation was accomplished, what we know about Vikings and the history of Denmark, and a room where kids (and grownups!) can play dress-up with Viking outfits.
Pick up some “Viking’s Blood,” a strong locally-made port, at the museum gift shop. Next door, re-created Viking ships go on daily fjord trips so that you can see the magnificent view from other angles; there’s usually one a day during the week, and only in the warmer months, so be sure to take a look online and plan accordingly.

A Week in Copenhagen: Kicking Back in Christianshavn

The view from atop the spire of the Church of Our Savior
Welcome to København! Often recognized as being one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in Europe with the best quality of life, Copenhagen is no-brainer. Sure it may be a tad expensive, but there's reason after reason for that. This week, Lilit Marcus will be sharing the must-hit spots, whether you have three days or over a week.
There’s more to Copenhagen than just the center of the city. Get thee to Christianshavn, the cool, Brooklyn-y borough of Copenhagen, for funky shops and cool cafes. This borough used to be its own town, and they still strongly cling to their hippie roots, especially in the town of Christiania...but we’ll get to that later.

A Week in Copenhagen: Making the Most of One Day in Malmö
Welcome to København! Often recognized as being one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in Europe with the best quality of life, Copenhagen is no-brainer. Sure it may be a tad expensive, but there's reason after reason for that. This week, Lilit Marcus will be sharing the must-hit spots, whether you have three days or over a week.
It's thanks to high speed trains and the joy of Scandinavian efficiency that you can get from Copenhagen to Malmö, Sweden, in as much time as it takes to get from the east side of Manhattan to the west side. Trains depart roughly every 15-20 minutes from both city train stations, so go ahead and purchase a round-trip ticket before you leave, for 168 DKK ($28.50).
Feel free to bring a passport if you want, but no one will care or ask to see it; the border here is quite lax and many people commute between the two cities daily. Your train trip will take you over the gorgeous Oresund Bridge, so try to snap a photo from inside if you can.

A Week in Copenhagen: My Little Mermaid and Beyond
Welcome to København! Often recognized as being one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in Europe with the best quality of life, Copenhagen is no-brainer. Sure it may be a tad expensive, but there's reason after reason for that. This week, Lilit Marcus will be sharing the must-hit spots, whether you have three days or over a week.
Although the Little Mermaid statue is probably the most iconic landmark in Copenhagen, she doesn’t quite meet up to the hype. First off, the statue is smaller than you might expect, and it’s practically impossible to wedge yourself in between photo-snapping tourists long enough to get a shot of your own. Luckily, there are some other great sites around Den Villen Havfrue that will more than meet your touristy needs.

A Week in Copenhagen: Off a Train and Into Tivoli Gardens
Welcome to København! Often recognized as being one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in Europe with the best quality of life, Copenhagen is no-brainer. So you've landed at Scandinavia's largest airport, Copenhagen-Kastrup (CPH). The best way to get to town from the airport is via the super quick and reliable 14-minute train to Central Station. From there, you’re close to many of the most famous places and things in the city that feature prominently in any Copenhagen guidebook. Bonus points for having the tourist office located right across the street.
If you’re just crashing in Copenhagen for 24 hours or you want to pack your first day with lots of sightseeing, this is what you're going to want to do:

Not Familiar With 'Comefly?' Well, They're Flying Nonstop From Florida To Denmark
Every once in a while we seem to come across some new-to-us airline, and this week it’s some kind of charter dealio that’s flying nonstop from Florida to Denmark. You’d think a likely city pair would be something like Miami to Copenhagen, but that’s not the case. This airline is crossing the Atlantic with the sole purpose of linking Fort Myers, Florida and Aalborg, Denmark.
The flights will operate once a week—on Mondays—starting on December 19 and running through April 9 of next year. If you’re looking to hitch a ride just talk to the folks over at Comefly, because they’re the ones in charge. Although, it’s actually Monarch Airlines that are the ones responsibility for doing the flying of the airplanes. Confused? Yes, we were too, especially with the less than awesome English translation of the website—but hey—they tried.

Don't Wish You Were Here: Copenhagen's Assistens Cemetery
What do Hans Christian Andersen, Søren Kierkegaard, and Nobel Prize winning scientist Niels Bohr have in common? They've all taken up a final resting place at Copenhagen's Assistens Cemetery, a lush and serene plot of land in the city's Nørrebro neighborhood. Thanatourists among you will, without a doubt, appreciate the cultural significancy of a visit to Assistens, but even those who lack interest in the great beyond will find solace in its green and leafy surroundings.

To Kronborg or Not to Kronborg? That is the Copenhagen Castle Question.

This week, Jaunted contributor Heidi Atwal will guide you through a series of food and shopping-rich travels through Copenhagen, a quaint European city trafficked by many a bike and artsy hipster. Stay tuned for suggestions on where to eat, hang, drink, and what to see in the city.
Provided that I'd recently seen a staging of Hamlet at London's Globe Theater, it's appropriate that my recent jaunt to Copenhagen concluded with a trip to Kronborg Castle, the supposed site of the Bard's famous work.
Located in Helsingør, approximately a 35-minute train ride outside of the city, the castle is quite easy to get to from Copenhagen's central station, though the journey itself doesn't afford particularly pretty scenery. (The seaside is mainly obscured by shrubbery en route.)

Copenhagen's Hyper-Cool Coffee Shop 'Coffee Collective' is for Caffeine Connoisseurs

Where the magic happens: the on-site roaster
This week, Jaunted contributor Heidi Atwal will guide you through a series of food and shopping-rich travels through Copenhagen, a quaint European city trafficked by many a bike and artsy hipster. Stay tuned for suggestions on where to eat, hang, drink, and what to see in the city.
My trip to Copenhagen was largely informed by the insider knowledge of a gracious host who literally pulled out a map of the city upon my arrival, then proceeded to circle and scrawl the names of his favorite food and shopping haunts upon it. This quintessentially cool, moustachioed local shared secrets that no run-of-the-mill guidebook would impart, his word as good as travel gold.
So, when he stated with complete conviction that Coffee Collective, a micro roastery located on Jægersborggade, served "easily Copenhagen's best coffee," my mission was clear: visit and adequately caffeinate at CC by trip's end. And caffeinate I did, stopping by for a black Amerikano on a brief break from trolling for fashion and art finds in Jægersborggade's many boutiques.
