Delta Hopes You'll Pay to Stretch Out with Domestic 'Economy Comfort' Seating
Last summer Delta introduced a new option to help you stretch out on those long-haul international flights, and now it looks like they’re bringing the option to domestic flights as well. Clearly they must like the extra revenue that the seats bring in, so they’re expanding their Economy Comfort options to pretty much all their planes. If it’s not the money they’re interested in it must be the fact that the competition already does something similar—cough—United Airlines and Economy Plus.
In total Delta will be updating like 800 of their planes, which includes pretty much all of their mainline planes as well as all of their regional jets configured with a two-class seating plan. If you snag one of these new seats you’ll be enjoying priority boarding, but more importantly it’ll give you a few more inches of legroom and a little more than 34” inches of seat pitch.

Porter Airlines, Frontier and Delta Send Planes Here and There This Week
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Porter Airlines:
Last week we were talking about Porter Airlines adding some new routes, and this week the carrier is back in our new route news. The airline—and their cute raccoon mascot—is starting up service between Toronto and Burlington, Vermont. The seasonal service is intended for skiers looking to hit the slopes, and this is the fifth different US city that the airline now visits. Things will run through April 8 before the planes head elsewhere for the summer. Initial fares look to hover around $200 or so, which isn’t too bad if you’re in need of a quick ski—or quick city—jaunt.
· AirBerlin:
No need to stopover if you’re trying to get to Berlin from the Los Angeles area, as there’s a new nonstop route coming soon thanks to the folks—and airplanes—over at AirBerlin. Beginning next May the carrier will do a nonstop flight between California and Germany, and the prices don’t really seem too bad. We did a quick search here and there, and we found a couple options in like the $900 range. Sure it’s not the best airfare deal ever, but it certainly good enough to get you to Europe instead of spending the summer at home.

'SureJet' is Out and 'ExpressJet' Will Remain in the ASA-ExpressJet Merger
Hopefully this will be the last update in the naming and rebranding saga of Atlantic Southeast Airlines and ExpressJet. If you recall the two regional airlinesthey usually help out Delta and Unitedshacked up and joined together under the new SureJet name. However, that new name didn’t sit too well with pilots, crew and other employees, so it was scrapped before it even took off.
Now there's a new namekind ofand it sounds like the combined airline is sticking with ExpressJet for their new effort. The airline will utilize the old Atlantic Southeast Airlines logo when needed, so it's kind of like the United/Continental mergeruse one name use one logobut on a much smaller schedule.

Everybody in the Delta SkyClub Getting Tipsy...on Top-Shelf Booze
Last time we were hanging out in one of Delta’s SkyClubs, we were enjoying a little bit of premium tequila, and now it looks like more of the top shelf stuff is coming to an airport lounge near you. All the booze that has been free will remain complimentary in the clubs, but there are some new fancy drinks and upgraded spirits that will now set you back some extra cash; better find a buddy with an expense account, and quick!
The rollout of what Delta is calling the “Luxury Bar” has already begun, and the plan is to have the new booze available in New York—both JFK and LGA—as well as Boston, Newark, Palm Beach, Seattle, and Washington. They promise that the offerings are coming to other airports sooner than later, so don’t worry if you call Los Angeles or Atlanta home.

Layover Lunch Delivered Right to Your Gate Now at MSP and JFK
Earlier this year we were dreaming of gate-side pizza delivery, and a few months later our dream has now become a reality. HMSHost—owner of fine airport concessions everywhere—recently launched the B4YOUBOARD app for both iPhone and Android users. What this means is that you can order food from your phone, and that someone will actually deliver it right over to you while you’re comfortably seated at the gate, tapping away on your iPad.
The service was made available first within Terminal 3 at New York-JFK, but the most recent roll-out has arrived at the Lindbergh Terminal of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

CNN Peers into the Future of Airline Mobile Apps

Not to be immodest, but we we think we've worked out a pretty good system for guessing when mobile and social media travel apps will work out. It's not particularly complicated. If an app helps people do stuff they want to do, in the way that people want to do that stuff, we lean toward success.
If it's based on the hope that people will start doing things in totally new wayse.g. sharing their travel itineraries with everyone they know from high school, college, and workwe tend to express less enthusiasm.
So for instance, when we found out that Delta was planning to sell tickets through Facebook, we predicted troubled times because there's no reason anyone would book tickets that way. And wouldn't you know it, the airline ended up trading over one million unique website visitors during a three-month period in exchange for just over 1,000 Facebook fans (concluded Delta's VP for eCommerce: Facebook "clearly is not going to be our biggest channel"no kidding).

In-Flight Cocktail of the Month: Delta's Pink Lemonade for Breast Cancer Awareness
As many already know, we have a serious obsession with airline cocktails, and so much is our passion that we've created a whole first-Friday-of-the-month feature called In-Flight Cocktail of the Month, which highlights the special concoctions that flight attendants whip up with only a cocktail shaker, some tiny liquor bottles and a whole lot of hope that it won't make you drunk and unruly.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and you know that means pink things everywhere, from special edition kitchen utensils with pink grips to special pink-frosted cupcakes at your local bakery. Every year Delta gets in on the giving back by doing several things: they paint a plane pink, they allow flight attendants to wear a pink version of the red Richard Tyler uniform wrap dress, they fly employee survivors of the cancer on a hero flight, and they serve Minute Maid Pink Lemonade.
It's that lemonade we're focused on right now, as it's somewhat our in-flight cocktail of the month. For $2 (all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation), you can grab a can of the sweet stuff on all domestic flights, most international flights, and in the Delta SkyClubs. Now for the cocktail part...

Atlanta's Airport Will Install a 'New Front Door' in 2012
Everyone has an opinion on Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, but lovers and haters can probably agree that the place’s newest terminal should be good for travelers.
The airport already has like 20 terminals—there’s actually six concourses off the main terminal—but they’re planning to add on one more after Terminal E. We’re still several months away, but the billion dollar project should be finished up by next spring. Flying through, we’ve noticed that things on the outside look pretty close to being done, so once the inside is loaded up with a Starbucks or two it should be ready to go.

JetBlue, Qantas and Caribbean Airlines All Add New Routes This Week
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· JetBlue:
Residents of the Constitution State are getting pretty friendly with JetBlue, and to reward their loyalty the airline is now offering up nonstop flights from Hartford to West Palm Beach. It’s going to be a daily affair all year long, and things kick off for the first time on January 12. If you’re thinking about checking out what JetBlue has to offer—act quickly—as some of the initial fares can be had for just $79 each way. Now all Connecticut needs is another nonstop to a Caribbean island—something that requires a passport—and they’ll be all set!
· Caribbean Airlines:
If you need somewhere to catch up on the sun and sand this winter there’s always Guyana, and thanks to Caribbean Airlines you can get there direct from New York-JFK. The airline is boosting its schedule for the busy holiday travel season, and it’s the first time they’re offering this option up without a layover. Don’t expect any deals or limited time offers to celebrate the new option, because you know they are only increasing the schedule for the holidays to cash in.

TSA Launches Faster 'PreCheck' Security Lines, But There's a Catch

TSA has been a veritable mad scientist's laboratory of experiments lately, all aimeddepending on how cynical you areeither at improving security, getting the public to stop whining about intrusive security measures, or some combination of the two (hint: it's some combination of the two).
They're going out of their way not to pat down babies, they're launching Israeli-style security screenings, they're rolling out gingerbread man scanners, and now they're launching a new program to speed frequent fliers through security. Ambitious!
The new program, dubbed PreCheck, is in its pilot phase at ATL, MIA, DFW, and DTW. Selected frequent fliers who shared their information with TSA before they arrived at the airport are being offeredin exchangea line that allows them get through screening much more quickly. It's kind of "basic trade-off," as the Associated Press writeup so eloquently puts it.

Emirates, Delta and Allegiant Do Their Thing to Deliver Some New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Emirates:
Get that loofah ready, as it’s time to shower at 35,000 feet. Alright, that might be a little premature, but Emirates is expanding their reach into the United States. Eventually they’re thinking that they’ll be utilizing plenty of Airbus A380s to whisk passengers here and there, but for now it’s going to be the trusty Boeing 777 doing its thing.
Dubai will be connected with Dallas as of February 2, and when March 1 rolls around it will be nonstop from Seattle to Dubai. Even if the Middle East isn’t your final destination, there’s plenty of connections, and it seems that Emirates has it figured it out when it comes to long-haul flying.
· Skywest:
For those looking to head to Yellowstone in the middle of the winter—good luck—but you can get there thanks to SkyWest. They’re connecting the airport in Cody, Wyoming with Salt Lake City flying under the Delta umbrella. There will be one flight a day this winter, and they’ll be serving the route with the ultra-comfortable CRJ200 regional jet. This route isn’t too popular when the weather turns chilly, so it’s actually subsidized by Uncle Sam and the Essential Air Service.

New Nonstops to Iceland and Japan Are Just Some of This Week's New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Icelandair:
The United Kingdom and Ireland aren’t the only island nations in Europe, so don’t forget to give Iceland a chance when thinking about your next trip. To make things easier on you, Icelandair is planning nonstop service between Denver and Reykjavik beginning next May.
The flights do their thing four times a week all year long. Also, if these Icelandair flights are similar to other ones, they’ll even allow you to work in a stopover in Iceland before you head off to somewhere else in Europe. Fares are as low as $489 roundtrip between the two cities, but of course that’s before some of those pesky fees and taxes.
