Jetstar Really Thinks a Quick Trip Can Turn Seatmates into Lovemates

Where: Australia
February 11, 2013 at 11:39 AM | by | ()

Just in case you haven't walked within a few feet of the greeting card section of your local drugstore, this week is Valentine's Day. Consider this fair warning if you haven't already scrambled to buy chocolates or flowers, but if you don't have a special one just yet, Jetstar has the solution to your problem. "LoveJet"! (cue the cheesy music)

The Australian low-cost carrier has hooked up with Aussie dating site, RSVP, to bring the world some real (multi-)mile-high dating. Last year, we saw KLM try to pair passengers looking for interesting conversation and a possible love connection, but Jetstar is actually planning on making the relationship magic happen.

Looking For Love? Head to the Airport

December 5, 2012 at 8:54 AM | by | ()

For those looking for a little something extra this holiday season—like a relationship—we bring you the latest in internet dating sites. This one has a special place in our hearts, and not because we used it to find our travel companion soul mate. It’s because this latest site has everything to do with meeting up at the airport, so your Sbarro slice may never be the same.

The cleverly named—we kid—MeetAtTheAirport.com promises to help you meet exciting people while waiting for your flight, and they claim that you’ll never be bored at the airport again. We’re sure there’s someone out there for everyone, but despite their attempts, we’re thinking that a couple of your potential matches made in the terminal aren’t going to turn out that darn wonderful. So we'd still bring the iPad along to prevent boredom.

Mile High Speed Dating Hits KLM, But No Joining the Mile High Club

December 19, 2011 at 12:45 PM | by | ()

We admit there have been times that we may have put noise cancelling headphones just to give the illusion of listening to music, warding off fellow passengers' incessant blabbing. There also have been times we've noticed someone that looks interesting—ahem attractive ahem—and wished we could swap seats to get a little closer.

The latter is how KLM prefers to fly, and they'll soon offer passengers the ability to pick their seatmate based on Facebook or Linkedin profiles. By next year, the airline will not only offer a window or aisle preference, but allow customers to view the profile of other passengers, then choose whether or not to sit next to them.

The first red flag we see is the obvious privacy of personal details. Passengers must opt-in to have their social media profile available for other travelers to see. Which means, not everyone will be taking part in this singles bar in the sky. Sigh of relief! It also begs the question; will the aircraft have a cabin area set aside for these passengers who are single and ready to mingle?

Lovestruck is Like Foursquare for Dating Your Way Around the World

May 18, 2010 at 10:45 AM | by | ()

Are you our friend on Foursquare yet? Because you totally should be. But if you're one of the naysayers who doesn't quite understand Foursquare or other location-based social networking, then perhaps all you need is to try using it to jumpstart your love life. And there's a new app that wants to do just that: Lovestruck.

Lovestruck is basically a dating website, but perfect for single-and-looking travelers in that you can list yourself (and see others around you who are up for it) as available for lunch and/or available for drinks later. It's basically like the dating site version of Foursquare, except that it sadly lacks badges, unless you count hook-ups as badges.

Make your libido location-based, after the jump
