From the Adriatic to Evian: A Beach Chat with Diane von Furstenberg

December 10, 2012 at 1:30 PM | by | Comments (0)

Fashion designer/global mogul Diane von Furstenberg needs no introduction. There's so much we could say about her, from her international career path to her time as a member of the "jet set" when that term meant something, but it's the simplest thing we'll speak of now: her relationship with water.

DVF's mantra is a simple one: "Love is Life." Recognizing that one cannot live to love without the sustaining power of water, she's collaborated to design the 2013 limited-edition designer Evian bottle, wrapping it with that very mantra. To promote it, Diane jetted up to Art Basel Miami Beach from Brazil this past weekend, which is where we caught a moment with her, heels sunk into on the sand at Soho Beach House.

The water (as you can see from our photos) was ridiculously tempting that day. Little aqua waves broke on shore and so we asked the globe-hopping Diane for a few of her favorite places to go for a dip.

Start the Week Off Right with a Contest for 5 Nights in Paris and a DVF Shopping Spree

Where: Paris, France
January 10, 2011 at 8:29 AM | by | Comments (0)

Let's start out this new week the right way: by daydreaming about being anywhere but back at work. Like Paris, maybe. You like Paris, right? Well luckily Tablet Hotels is using January as a month to give away a free 5-day trip to City of Lights, plus a couple more perks that really made this travel contest stand out for us.

If you win the 5-night Paris stay at the Hotel de Sers, then you're also going to be the winner of round-trip airfare for two to get there, and (this is what really makes this great) a $2,500 shopping spree at Diane Von Furstenberg.

Designer Diane Von Furstenberg's 'Journey of a Dress' Heads to Sao Paulo

Where: Iguatemi Mall, Av. Brigadeiro Faria Lima 2232, Sao Paulo, Brazil
April 6, 2010 at 11:35 AM | by | Comments (2)

Diane von Furstenberg is many great things—an iconic womenswear designer, a philanthropist, the President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and a model for healthy living—but she is also a consummate world traveler (and travel tweeter). In fact, when she starred in recent American Express commercials, she credited experiencing the world with giving her the inspiration to create beautiful clothing and become a stronger, independent woman. We kind of love her, if you haven't already gotten that.

Thus, it's about time she launches her first store in South America, at the Iguatemi Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The grand opening of the boutique comes on Thursday night, when Diane herself hosts a huge Brazilian bash and also inaugurates the start of the Sao Paulo leg of the traveling exhibition "Journey of a Dress," curated by Vogue's Andre Leon Talley.

You Can't Stand Under His Umbrella

January 20, 2009 at 8:46 AM | by | Comments (0)

Previously: When Jay wouldn't commit to Whitney, his roommate Adam convinced him to lock it down. Yes boys, make sure to commit to a girl when your friend tells you to, not when you feel like it.

Jay and Whitney go on a double date with Adam and Allie, a model from Cali who is basically living with the boys now. "We're good men, you know?" Jay says. Ooh! Foreshadowing!

Hold On For Deah Life, Mate

January 13, 2009 at 8:45 AM | by | Comments (0)

Previously: Whitney was burdened with Erin's love problems, when last week's boyfriend Duncan is suddenly upgraded to "guy from her past," so she got her own apartment--but not her own "I love you" from Jay.

There's some kind of Big Event happening at DVF, a Wonder Woman tie-in complete with pink VIP carpet, but Olivia still has time to cattily chastise Whitney for not knowing the abbreviation "social" for "socialites." (Uh, because she totes made it up, are we right?) After Diane von Furstenberg HERSELF shows up and gives Whit the nod, Olivia even doles out an, "I'm so happy for you." Burn noticed!

"They Are Cutthroat! They Are Evil!"

Previously: Whitney moved to New York and started her job at Diane von Furstenberg, where she met potential frenemy Olivia Palermo. Olivia invited her and Aussie boytoy Jay to a dinner party uptown, at which he at first refused to show, then came and swept Whit away. In the second half of last week's double-feature, Whitney hears from Model Alex, her "Hills" fling in New York, that Jay is fooling around with his ex. Then Alex and Jay get into a fight at a club, because NYC is all tough like that.

Time for apartment hunting! Whitney's been staying with her friend Erin but now that her new Canadian boyfriend Duncan is visiting, it's getting a little crowded in there. Jay finds her an amazing 30th-floor apartment--but is he really going to be around?

OMG! "Hills" Spinoff Preview Surfaces on Aftershow

October 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM | by | Comment (1)

We almost never watch "The Hills" Aftershow, an MTV.com feature in which one of the cast members from "The Hills" basically refutes everything we just saw with our own eyes. But if we had last night, we would've caught this preview for the long-awaited Whitney Port spin-off, still burdened with the name "The City" but peopled with Manhattan socialite Olivia Palermo, soon-to-be-former boss Kelly Cutrone and Diane von Furstenberg.
