Whoa. Okay it's official. The live music festival Coachella has jumped the shark so hard it's landed in the deep end of the ocean.
Just yesterday, Coachella promoters Goldenvoice announced that they'd be packing up the popular desert-held music event and adding some waterby theming two cruises after it. The S.S. Coachella will set sail for two consecutive weekends during the notoriously slow weeks of the year for cruisingthose right before the Christmas holiday. Brilliant timing if you're a cruise line looking to make a buck, horrible timing for attendees, who will likely have to chose between taking work time off for S.S. Coachella or heading home for the holidays.
And it won't be cheap; no camping or crashing on a stranger's couch possible on this ship. The 2,886-guest Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Silhouette is all staterooms and suites, with packages starting from $500 per person and maxing out around $2,000 per person (of their published prices, "email to inquire" for pricier suites). Remember those amounts do not include booze, soda, taxes & gratuities, shore excursions or travel to and from Fort Lauderdale.

HOLY SMOKES, you guys. The dates have already been announced for Coachella 2013 and ticket sales begin next week! Didn't everyone just, like, get over their hangovers from the desert
orgy music festival this year?
The dates you need to set aside in your iCal are: April 12-14 & April 19-21, 2013.
As with Coachella 2012, 2013's version will be split into two identical weekends of performances from musicians old and new, with a hologram or two thrown in for max viral appeal. The only thing that won't be identical are the attendees, since you have the option of hitting up the first weekend and being surprised, or hitting up the second and being well prepared. Either way, we recommend you start phoning your choice Palm Springs hotel now to inquire about early booking deals.
Lest you forget, Coachella is an event that's ticketed in advance. The first tickets will go up for sale online through the official Coachella website NEXT WEEK. Specifically they state, "Advance passes go on sale beginning this Thursday, May 17th, 2012 10:00 am PDT through the following Thursday, May 24th, 2012 10:00 pm PDT."
Count your pennies, kids, and see you there?

Love was in the air for celebrity couples at the 2012 Coachella Music Festival in Indio, CA over the weekend.
Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger were spotted sharing some PDA alongside The Vampire Diaries' hottest real-life couple, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev during Justice's set on Sunday. Ian and Nina, who usually keep mum about their relationship, were surprisingly affectionate throughout the show.
Coachella is dead! Long live Coachella!
As the first year that the desert music festival is doubled to cover to weekends, 2012 seems to be thinning the buzz. THANK GOD. Hey, we love Coachella and everything, but now that festival-goers can chose from weekends, all the social media madness from Indio, California is now spread out. Alas, there were a few things that went down these last three days to put Coachella into the national conscious (and get people psyched for 2013--jeez).
To start, H&M staged a "Kiss for a Cause" tent, which served three purposes: one, for every tweet or instagram you did using their hashtag, H&M would donate $1 to AIDS research; two, H&M used some of the photobooth puckers on their own streams, making a few good-looking folks mini-famous for the day; and three, everybody got to see what everybody else was wearing in the hot weather (answer: fringed leather vests & faux-navajo prints).
It's March 13 and, therefore, officially one month out from the start of the Coachella music festival in Indio, outside of Palm Springs, California.
At this point, if you haven't booked airfare/hotel/rideshare/campsite/etc, it's not going to be easy or cheap to figure out your weekend...or weekends. You see, this will be the first year that Coachella splits into two consecutive weekends, offering the same experience at both but allowing for double the attendance in total.
While regular festival passes are long SOLD OUT, it does look as though there's one work-around to score tickets to the first weekend of fun. Buy the Lake Eldorado camping package, and it comes with General Admission to Coachella. But then ya gotta camp, and the only option left is a 4-person tent (and 4 festival passes) for $2,975.

Without a doubt, the one huge travel story today is the scramble to plan for Coachella 2012, the music festival in the desert outside Palm Springs, CA. For the first time, the massive 3-day party will be split in twotwo weekends, that is. If you can't make it April 13-15, there's now the option of catching the same acts, on the same stages, with a different crowd around you, on April 20-22.
Headliners of the fest are: The Black Keys, Radiohead and, most anticipated by far, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg who will close each weekend with a Sunday performance. Other acts due to hit the many stages include Bon Iver, Cat Power, The Arctic Monkeys, Feist, La Roux, Girl Talk, Santigold and really so many others we don't feel like typing them out. (But here's a Spotify playlist to get you in the mood).

We're of two minds about Coachella, which is terribly convenient since there will be two Coachella festivals in 2012. Greatwe can spend the first one enjoying the music and the scene, and follow it by spending the second one hating on it and making snide remarks about the Urban Outfitters-wearing masses passed out next to half-spun Dreamcatchers. Two Coachella fests means more options for festivalgoers, with more money for musicians and the event's company, but will it be a good idea in practice?
Coachella has come to be known as the Woodstock of the Apple generation, even though more and more corporations have carved out a little piece for themselves in recent years (example: H&M has a huge tent with entire collection previews). A single festival means one focus, one big blowout, one long weekend of overpriced hotel rooms or house rental and hopefully only one vacation day requested off at work to attend.

Raise your wristbanded right hand if you're heading to Coachella from April 15-17! That's scary soon, and we know some of you haven't quite figured out how you're getting to the massive
party music festival in Indio, California. Some will pile into minivans without A/C, many will fly in and rent cars only to leave them unused in the desert sun the whole weekend, and a few will be smart and go all out with a private jet.
We're all about private jets when the price isn't astronomical, and $1,000 per person round-trip sounds pretty alright. JetSuite is on the affordable end of private jet airlines, started by some of the same folks behind JetBlue. Instead of blue bubbles painted on the plane, however, JetSuite sports a snazzy red racing stripe on their shiny new Embraer Phenom 100s, with interiors designed by BMW.
When the Coachella lineup of heavies, like Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, the Strokes, Kanye West and Nas, was announced, many devoted Coachella fans probably scrambled to buy their tickets. Now it's all just a countdown until it's time to hit the desert. But if you want to rock to three days of live music, you gotta book your flight ASAP.
We did some digging and found several deals that will get to you the music festival, which takes place from April 15 to 17. The closest Coachella Valley airport is Palm Springs International Airport, which luckily does have a small amount of daily flights to manage the influx of travelers...somewhat.
We haven't even made it through SXSW yet and already the music and culture scene is a-buzz with another festival: Coachella. For the uninitiated, Coachella is a weekend-long music party in the desert, nearest the town of Indio, California. It's the closest thing we have in these modern times to Woodstock, and the demographics are pretty much the same. So pack your mustache wax, your most thrift store-looking muscle tee and forget the sunblock, because the palest person who gets the most sunburned wins.
This year, the "Coachella Valley Music and Arts Fest," as it's formally called, will be held April 15-17 and the line-up of performers only dropped yesterday:
Coachella, the indie music fest out in the desert, is on from April 16 to 18, and right now the ticketed masses are flocking to set up camp in Indio. Of course the partying begins in the skies, but the one thing the Coachella throngs will be focused on aside from the music stages are the after-parties. It's hard to navigate the slew of bashes that are held in conjunction with the 11th annual festival. But we rounded up some of the best options that'll allow you to let loose and cool off in the desert.
See our top three Coachella party picks after the jump.
We’ve already told you how to get tickets to Coachella, but what if you want to perform at this year’s fest?
If you want to DJ at Coachella this year, all you have to do is get together a dozen friends who are willing to run on a hamster wheel in the scorching heat for 30 minutes. The eco-educational nonprofit organization Global Inheritance, that combines art, fun, and play to promote environmental issues, is sponsoring the Sweat Shop, an initiative that gives DJs a chance to spin while their friends ride bikes, turn hand cranks, and run on hamster wheels to power their equipment.
If you think you (and your friends) have what it takes to spin at Coachella, email sweatshopMIXER@globalinheritance.org with your website for consideration. If you’re chosen, you’ll need to send them a $50 deposit that you will get back if your friends can manage to keep your turntables spinning for 30 minutes.
